The Sims Freeplay- Tropical Romance Island Event

THIS EVENT IS NOW OVER

This is the new loved themed event that started on the 2nd February (you need to update to the romance update to get this event)

image

This event is only here for 14 days and the aim of it is to collect enough fruit from special new plants (found in the event tab of buy mode) to unlock the Tropical Romance Island and build all the places on it

The community part of this event is, the fruit everyone collects (you do not need neighbours this is everyone who plays the games progress) is added together and we unlock new items when we have collected so much

For more information on the new update please read my Romance 2016 update post

ONCE THE 14 DAYS ARE UP YOU GET TO KEEP THE ISLAND BUT YOU WILL NOT BE ABLE TO UNLOCK ANY MORE PLACES ON IT IF IT IS INCOMPLETE, YOU HAVE 7 DAYS ONCE THE EVENT IS OVER TO BUILD THE REMAINING PLACES BUT ALL THE MATERIALS TO BUILD THESE PLACES MUST BE COLLECTED BEFORE THE 14 DAY LIMIT IS UP AS YOU WILL NOT BE ABLE TO COLLECT ANYMORE DURING THE NEXT 7 DAYS

Plant a banana tree (find the banana tree in the events tab of buy mode- first one is free)
image

Collect fruit- 7 seconds (click on banana tree)

YOU COLLECTED ENOUGH BANANAS TO UNLOCK THE SEA VOYAGE BOAT (you may need to collect the bananas a few times to unlock the boat if it doesn’t happen after the first attempt)

Build the sea voyage ship- 3 seconds (found in sim town, between the standard and premium residences on the side with the bridge to the mysterious island)

Visit the tropical romance island (click on the boat)
Unlock the ultimate relaxation pack- collect 2450 bananas from a banana tree to unlock the hidden hammock and coastal dining area (click on the island with the heart button in the corner of the game to see your progress)
image

TIP: you can have four banana trees so four sims can do this at once as it takes 4 hours 30 minutes each time. It costs SPs to speed up this action.

And remember to keep checking back as bonus bananas appear while they are collecting them (every 15 minutes it seems!)
image

Use the event spin flower (buy the coin flower patch from the event tab and select the spin flower option)
image

Collect bonuses (as mentioned above you get bonuses from the banana trees every 15 minutes)

Continue collecting fruit- this is the last step but the event is not over, keep collecting fruit to unlock everything on the island!

Your Progress:image

Click the island with the heart button in the corner of your game to see your progress

They can also serenade their love at the beach fire (located near the coastal dining area)

That is all the personal progress prizes

How did I do it? I don’t have any neighbours right now so have been unable to earn social points that way but by completing the cooking hobby and earning LPs I used the social point plant (that costs 5LPs) to earn the SPs I needed to speed up the fruit collecting (mainly for bananas)

I worked out how many bananas I needed to build all the places then the rest I used on the spin flower to earn the constructor coins

There are many things about this event that I really think are unfair; the lack of constructor coins you can earn without wasting bananas or SPs on the spin plants (which have the worst odds of actually getting coins!), the requirement to speed up with loads of SPs (if you were using LPs it would be one for every hour but it is not like that for SPs!) and the length of time to collect the fruit- 4 hours 30 minutes each time when there is a limit on how many plants you can buy is completely ridiculous.

The Places on the Island- My Opinion

My top three: Coastal Dining, Wedding Coast Venue, Sea View Bungalow

The rest are in order of how much I like them:

  • Mermaid Reef
  • Hidden Hammock
  • Suncoast Bar- if there were more things to do at the bar I would like this more!
  • Beach Volleyball and Sun Bath Beach

Community Progress

The community progress is the combined progress of all players fruit collected to unlock new items for all of us! I will add information on these items to this post once we have unlocked them.

NOTE: You DO NOT need neighbours for this- this is everyone who plays the games progress NOT your neighbours progress

Clearing the Island

Clearing the island earns you Constructor Coins that you can use to build places on the island

5 Large Rock Piles- 12 hours 30 minutes each (earns you 3 constructor coins each)

5 Tree Stumps- 10 hours 30 minutes each (earns you 2 constructor coins each)

5 Small Rock Piles- 8 hours 30 minutes each (earns you 2 constructor coins each)

5 Thistles- 4 hours 30 minutes each (earns you 1 constructor coin each)

5 Weeds- 1 hour 30 minutes each (earns you 1 constructor coin each)

Constructor Coins

You earn constructor coins by:

Clearing the Island

Personal Progress prizes

Community Progress prizes

Coin Flower Patch

I’ve been told that the mega spin flower which costs 15SPs gives better odds than the spin flower that costs bananas but I have to disagree (I don’t have neighbours anymore so I have to use the social point flower on the normal garden patch for 5LPs to make social points which I would rather use to speed up fruit collecting!)

On the mega spin flower there are more constructor coins rewards and they are larger amounts than the spin flower which costs 400 bananas but I wasted several SPs getting no coins so I will be sticking to the spin flower using all the bananas I have to spare to earn my constructor coins!

Thanks for reading!

  1. Hi. I want to know if i unlock the wedding coast venue an hour before the time ends would i be able to use it? Or would it get cancelled?

  2. Do you know if your bungalow, etc can still be under construction once the time runs out on the challenge? I still need 30 constructor points, and if I make it at all, I’ll be cutting it very close and my last construction place will be JUST starting when the time expires.

  3. Wait, but I only got the quest on Feb 14, which was yesterday, and it only gave me 26 hours to finish??!!

  4. What will happen if I run out of time but I haven’t completed the quest? Is it just finishing????

    • You will be unable to unlock or build anymore places on the island once the time is up

    • This is what sims free play said on Facebook to one of the gamers

Hi Sean, there will be a 7 day grace period once the event has concluded. What this means is that anything you’ve already started building you can finish, or you can begin building as long as you have the resources to smile emoticon During this grace period, you won’t be able harvest more fruit or gather resources but you can definitely use up any island resources you may have!

  5. This event took me for everythong I had. I went from 60 LP’s to only 4, and 410 SP’s to 0 SP’s. All my sims have aged and are in a bad mood cuz they were non-stop collecting fruit. And why was it so hard to get construction coins?! This event wasn’t very fair and I barely managed to get all the places unlocked in time.

  6. If I don’t get get the last 3 constructor coins can I still grow stuff and use the spin wheel? Also I haven’t built anything yet is that going to be an issue? Last thing if I spend 400 bananas on the spin will I have to get 400 more to get the coins?

  7. What if I unlock everything on the island before time runs out but don’t have time to build it? Can I build it after? Will it eventually let me build what I couldn’t in the time limit?
I’m glad we got all the community prizes but they made it too hard by capping the amount of plants you need to collect from.

  8. I’m not going to get my wedding venue 😤😭 so upset! I’ve been waiting so long for a place to actually have a wedding!

  9. If I start building something before time runs out will it complete?

  10. What if I’m in the middle of building and it has 2 hours left and times up what happens

  11. I also think the timing and resource requirements are unfair. Usually is figured out pretty well so you have to be dedicated but not too much so, but this time whoever put the even together didn’t do the math right. It was way too tight! I’m glad that there is a 7 day grace period, I hope that it will still let the use SPs to build the bungalow. I’ll have to do a cooking hobby blitz to try and get my last 700 SP from the SP flower. Not sure if I’ll get it or wear out first, lol, but I’ll keep trying… disappointing to put 14 days into it and not get everything.

    • Yea I agree with you on that they should start it again to give us chance unlock everything I’m very disappointed that I ran out of time plus I didn’t get to unlock the wedding venue, the bungalow or the mermaid pool

  12. Hi, there are 20 more minutes left of the Tropical Romance Island quest and Im still building my Sun bath Beach, and there is an hour left. If the event ends, will I lose my Sun Bath Beach?

  13. Ugh!!! I unlocked everything but the bungalow. Even spend some money I shouldn’t have and didn’t come close finishing. I’m glad I got the wedding venue though, I wanted that the most.

  14. OMG the event has ended but i had not enough fruitsto build the bungalow, else were done. Then they says i can still build unlocked place for the next 7 days. How great!
But due to lack of fruits, they stop my sims in collecting fruits. So i cant build the bungalow anymore 😦 except for 1600 SP :(((
By the way, i updated the game when the event was only 2 days more, so many LPs has been turned into SPs with spin spin spin :(( Luckily i got twice jackpot with 400 SPs ^^
Thanks for ur blog becauz i always find the info here to manage my quest timely 😡

  15. Hey so the island quest ended but it says we have seven days to build anything we haven’t got, it also says if you fall short on fruit etc for said items then you can get these when you go to build the bungalow/wedding venue etc etc.
How do we go about getting the items we don’t have enough of?

    • I completed the event so I don’t know what that means! I would assume it awards you with some of the materials you need to build other places when you build those but I doubt it will give you all of them. All you can really do is build a place and see what happens if you can. The only other way is using SPs to build it but this will cost you a lot (to do this you click on the place and underneath the requirements it will tell you how many SPs it will cost you to build it

  16. So once it’s over it doesn’t make a difference because we can’t collect any more fruit. So what’s the point of the 7 day grace period? It cost a lot of SP’s to build things on the island.

    • The 7 days is to build the places on the island that you have got the materials to build but didn’t do during the event, it would be unfair on everyone else if you were still allowed to collect fruit during this time as the event is over. Its very helpful for those who were building a place and it would have taken them over the time limit.

  17. This event really annoyed me! The fact that you cannot build anything else after the time is very frustrating..

  18. I got the 7 days to built place on the island but unfortunately, I don’t have enough resources… So sad…

    • The only other way now is using SPs to build it but this will cost you a lot (to do this you click on the place and underneath the requirements it will tell you how many SPs it will cost you to build it

  19. This one disappointed me. We’ve always been able to finish quests before, we just don’t get the special gifts. Had I known I either would not have played or would have put my all into it. Now my island is just rubbish.

  20. Why can’t i use any of the trees or plants from the quest? Should I sell or keep them? They are worth a lot of money!

  21. I’m a bit confused. When I look at my quests menu, the Tropical one is visible. It mentions your resources and says, “If you come up a little short, you can get what you need when trying to build a location.” Do you think it means if you can build a location, it could reward you more resources? I only need the bungalow, I’m unsure what to do. I took a screen shot if you’d like.

  22. Hi can u please help me? I didnt finish the quest on time sa i wasnt able to get the bungalow yesterday. And now they give me another quest that i can still build it using fruits of wat i collected last request. What should i do? I cant even plant cause they wont allow it. Pleaaase help i want this bungalow so bad 😦

    • The only other way now is using SPs to build it but this will cost you a lot (to do this you click on the bungalow and underneath the requirements it will tell you how many SPs it will cost you to build it

  23. Hi need some advice…it says i can use the remaining fruits collected before times up..but how do i use it?

  24. Can someone please help me…how do you marry the sims with the arbor

  25. I’ve unlocked everything I’m just missing the sea bungalow. They said I can use remaining fruit to finish within the 7 days to build do you know how I could keep building ?

    • If you have all the materials to build it just go to the island and build it, if not the only other way now is using SPs to build it but this will cost you a lot (to do this you click on the bungalow and underneath the requirements it will tell you how many SPs it will cost you to build it

  26. If it’s a community effort how come I can’t finish? I don’t have the supplies even though I made sure sims were always gathering. Day and night. And yet I’m still 60 tools away from being able to build the mermaid reef and the bar. I don’t have 136 sp to finish this!

    • Part of it was community, the other part was how many fruit you collected.

    • If you only need 136 to finish, you’re doing pretty well. I still need 700. Do the cooking hobby over and over (see her post on this site about getting more LP) to get lifestyle points, then use the regular garden plot to soon the social points flower for 5 LP. You’re guaranteed to get at least 5 SP each time, if not more, so you can definitely get this done in the next few days if you want to!

  27. Will this event come up again later?i haven’t unlocked the wedding and bungalow…and i m only lacking 5 constructor points 😟

    • Not sure sorry! But if you only need 5 coins then you can still build one of the places now, you have 7 days to build it and if you click on the other place you have left to build, underneath the requirements it will tell you how many SPs it will cost you to build it

  28. I’m happy to say I got all the community prizes and I love the outdoor seating sets. I’m not disappointed that I didn’t get everything built only 4 places, but it’s only a game. Lol. Just do the best you can.

  29. Hi .. I was not able to finish this quest so i didnt get the bungalow . But they give me another 7 days to finish and get the bungalow using the fruits that i collected last quest, but the problem is i couldnt plant any fruits.. What would i do? Please help me i really want that bungalow so bad 😦

    • The only other way now is using SPs to build it but this will cost you a lot (to do this you click on the bungalow and underneath the requirements it will tell you how many SPs it will cost you to build it

  30. Hi. For the 7 days to build locations, I only have to build the bungalow however I still don’t have enough materials to build it. Does that means that I won’t be able to build it?

    • No, unfortuantely you won’t be able to build it if you do not have enough materials unless you use SPs (click on the place you want to build and under the requirements you can see how many SPs it will cost you)

  31. Quote: “weightlessmagic

The only other way now is using SPs to build it but this will cost you a lot…”

A LOT is right! I need 1210 SPs to build the Bungalow. At a minimum, I would spend over $90 to purchase the right SP packs to get this many points. Or, I could get the “bargain” of a full 2,000 SPs for just $99.99!!! Who spends that at once on a game? Really? In the last few hours of the event, I spent all of my remaining bananas on the spin flower to see if I could accumulate some coins towards the bungalow, but no dice. I should have just spent what I had to build the volleyball court, but now I don’t have enough bananas to do even that. Grrr….glad I didn’t really care about it that much.

Oh well, I’m just glad that I got the wedding venue and mermaid lagoon. Those are really cool. And also, we did unlock the beach clothing, so that’s more clothes for our Sims.

Thanks for all your advice and patience in answering soooo many questions about this event, weightlessmagic! You’re now my go-to source for Sims how-to’s.

  32. I was pretty annoyed that it wouldn’t let me apply a time extension to this quest, even though I had one there to use. I could have collected enough fruit with another day.

  33. I was really excited when this event came up and got to unlock a few things but I wasn’t able to unlock everything personally the event should be restarted without a time limit to give us all a chance to unlock all the items on the island is there any way of restarting it?

  34. Hey, how do i get back to the Island now the quest has ended?

  35. Thought I’d point out something kind of interesting. How is it that most of us only have the bungalow to build? I need over 500 SP, so I’m low on LP now, due to using the one flower to earn SP. Ugh!!

  36. What can I do with those banana trees and the other plants?

  37. I unlocked the mermaid reef and the suncoast bar but i dont have enough resources to build it and the quest is over can i still build them somehow? Also will this quest come back? Thanks! By the way your blog is really good and useful!!

    • The only other way now is using SPs to build them but this will cost you a lot (to do this you click on the place and underneath the requirements it will tell you how many SPs it will cost you to build it)
I don’t know if this quest will come back, sorry! Thanks!

  38. A note to those who said you can no longer get LPs from watching ads: They’re still there. I just picked some up today. Just keep watching ads. The LPs will turn up in rotation.

  39. Any speculation about the Urban Furniture Event? Should I have all my Sims doing the Woodworking hobby?

  40. So I got a notification saying something about romance island and hurry up and build your bungalow. I didn’t read it clearly because I thought if I just clicked on the notification it would take me to an explanation. But…it did not! So… are they extending the time or what’s the deal? Why was I notified to build the bungalow?

    • It does say in the post, you have 7 days after the event is over to build any places on the island you have left if you have enough materials to do so but you cannot earn the materials to build these places anymore.

  41. So pretty much if i didn’t get enough constructor coins…i missed out? Im on day six and the next to build was the mermaid one

    • The only other way now is using SPs to build it but this will cost you a lot (to do this you click on the mermaid reef and underneath the requirements it will tell you how many SPs it will cost you to build it

  42. This was the stupidest event ever. I thought I’d be able to use my 80,000(!!!!!) leftovers bananas in the spin wheel thing for more constructor coins aftertime was up. My bad! Now I’ve got loads of fruit and no way to use them. 14 days of full time picking… wasted!

  43. I must say I just love your blog, but I have a problem I won the beach wear of the romantic island event but when I go into the wardrobe I don’t see all the bathing suits in the swimwear what do I do I’ve tried everything that I know I even added a new sim just to see if I can get it that way and that didn’t work either please email me back and let me know what I should do thank you very much

    • Thanks! The event didn’t unlock swimwear in the beach wear, all the clothes can be found in the wardrobe for adult sims under the tops, bottoms and shoes section, there are pictures towards the end of the post of the items so you know what to look for.

  44. Hi… I didn’t finish the event and didn’t get the bungalow and wedding. Its so unfair how EA only gave us 14 days and only 4h 30min time to collect fruits. When the quest was over, I saw all my plants’ fruits all green. Does it mean they’re dead?

  45. My time was up a few days ago for this. I only had 4 days to complete because I guess the app hadn’t updated. I missed the mermaid fountain and the wedding. Anywho, a picture popped up today saying use all of your resources or you will lose them. I have no idea what resources they’re talking about but I only have access to the things that I unlocked and the patches were unusable immediately once the timer turned off. Do you know what they mean by this?

    • That’s the problem with automatic updates, they don’t always update on time!
If you had enough resources (fruit and coins) to build the places you will still be able to for a few days, if you didn’t the only other way now is using SPs to build it but this will cost you a lot (to do this you click on the place and underneath the requirements it will tell you how many SPs it will cost you to build it)

  46. Hi, I still have the last two items to build and have the resources to do so, however, when I go to the island, the build icon buttons are no longer visible. Curious to know if anyone else has encountered this problem.

  47. Hello. I was wondering how you got your sim’s bun.. I finished that limited quest for hairstyles a month ago and only left out one hairstyle. I kept seeing those kinds of hairstyles and thought that maybe it was just for VIPs? Pls answer..

  48. I really need help with my game. I really wanted to start the tropical romance event, but it says I have to wait for the next event. What does this mean?

    • Sorry but the event is now over, you can no longer do it. There may be another quest one day that allows you to build the ship to the island but at the moment this is no longer possible.
