The Sims Freeplay- Adding Balconies

Once you complete the Lovey-Dovey Balcony Quest you can build balconies on houses that have more than one floor, this post explains how to add a balcony and all the ways you can customise it!

NOTE: you will not be able to customise a balcony until the quest has been completed

1.Building a Balcony

You can build a balcony on any floor except the ground floor, you need to go to the house section of buy mode, click on the last orange tab then you can touch and drag anywhere inside the yellow highlighted area but it must be connected to the house. Green means it can be built there.

Drag the white highlighted edged to resize

Balconies can be joined together to create more interesting shapes.

What is the cheapest balcony? A 2×1 balcony will cost S6,000

2.Support posts

The second tab is support posts, you don’t need to add them but you may want to if you want a larger balcony further away from the house. These are placed underneath the balcony (if you have two balconies one above the other you can add support posts to the balcony below)

This video explains how support posts are used to create bigger balconies:

3.Balcony Paving

The third tab is where you can select the type of tiles you want on your balcony, click on the style then click on the balcony

4.Railings

The fourth tab changes the railings, again click on the style then onto the balcony and it will place them around the edge

Deleting a Balcony

While on the balcony tab click on the balcony you wish to delete and select the red simoleon symbol to sell it.

Is it possible to build a room above a balcony? No it isn’t

  1. I’m to the point in the quest where I should build the balcony on my 2 story home, but the orange balcony button doesn’t work. All of the other orange buttons don’t work now either. I can’t move past this point in the quest or do anything with home store now. Has anyone else had this problem? Any ideas on how to get this corrected? Thanks and I love the website!

      • Yes, I deleted the game from my device and reloaded it and tried restarting my device. I reached out to EA and they said that they are receiving a large amount of inquiries so it may take longer to get a response. On the meantime I can’t do anything and am running out of time to complete the quest in time. What a bummer. Thanks so much for your quick response! Love this website!

      • I figured it out! I needed to purchase something for another task and that was preventing me from moving on. Once I did that, I could add the balcony. Whew! Thanks again!

  2. How would I go about building rooftop patios? Would I build the 3rd floor and then construct the patio as I would on ground or do I need to build it as a balcony?

  3. I’ve completed the balcony quests, but I can’t put trees or some of the outdoor decorations on a balcony. How come?

  4. I’ve seen hottubs be put on balconies in various youtube videos, but I can’t seem to do it myself. If I try, the view drops from the balcony to the ground floor. Do I need support posts to be able to hold the weight?

  5. I have seen pictures of balconies without railings but the game won’t let me remove mine. Am i doing something wrong or was it a glitch that allowed to remove them? Thank you. Love your page, by the way.

  6. Hi! Is it possible to build a room directly above the balcony? Example is if I build a balcony on the 2nd floor, can I build a room directly above it on the 3rd floor? Thank you! Your blog helps me alot 🙂

  7. I’ve noticed sometimes the balcony can’t be built all the way out to the corner of the lot, so they’ll be a corner left open. There’s nothing under it that would prevent it. Any tips?

  8. When you add a second story to a house and you only make a couple rooms on the top story, leaving that blackness/non-room surrounding them, how do you get rid of that? Will this quest fix that for me? I have seen people do it before, but I don’t know how. -M-

    • Yes, you can add balconies to fill those empty spaces, you just drag the balcony where you want it on the second floor to fill the gaps once you have completed this quest

  9. I got the chalet and I accidentally did something and I don’t have the little loft hallway anymore and I can’t figure out how to get it back it’s just a huge floor now.

    • You probably stored the balcony by mistake, the balcony will be in the stair section of your inventory so you can readd it to that house, to place it you need to place it on the floor below the one you want it on so place it on the ground floor to get it back on the floor above.

  10. I bought one of the Christmas house templates. The one with the work shop in the basement and Santa’s sleigh on a balcony on the top /third story.

I added an official third story to it and I have finished the balcony quest. I am trying to build some balconies in the black area on my top story, but it won’t let me. The little outline showing where you can build are all on the outside, and it won’t let me build any on the inside.

I tried deleting the top balcony but that didn’t help, and it won’t even let me add it back. Is it because there are balconies on the second story as well? Would it help if I deleted them too?

Also, if you know which house I am talking about, can you think of anyway I could connect the Santa Sleigh balcony to the rest of the third story I have added?

    Any ideas?

  11. Hey, so I’m trying to make a river cottage, but for some reason the yellow ‘place’ space isn’t
connected to the house, any ideas why that might be so?

  12. Gah! I had no problem building a balcony on my second floor, but I can’t seem to build one on the third floor. Just above the second floor balcony, almost an identical set up to what you have in your example photo…. any ideas?

  13. I get the feeling that the support posts are just for show and have no purpose.

They don’t support extended rooms above regular ground nor extra balcony beyond the yellow lines.

Test them out and see if you get anything different. Maybe I’m just going about it wrong.

  14. Would you be able to build a balcony above a room, or do they only extend from the sides of houses? I want to have a house with a partial second floor (ie, rooms above half the ceiling of the first floor, but an open patio above the other half of the first floor ceiling). Is that possible?

    • Yes you can build a balcony above a room, when you click to add a balcony you will see the yellow line that shows you how far out you can build the balcony so you might be able to go over most of the patio too

    • Is it possible to have a roof above your balcony or to make the black spaces on the second floor be roof like the santa cottage?

  15. Hi, love your site. I’m trying to build a balcony in the front middle area of the house (it’s edge to edge in the shape of an “H”). On the floor above, I’m trying to build a balcony to extend to the edge of the grid line, so it could go right over my door/walkway but it’s not allowing me to use my desired section, its leaving a 2×2 unhighlighted space smack dab in the middle of the grid (everywhere else can extend to the line).
I searched to see if anyone has experienced that already to no avail, so I’m asking if you’ve ever experienced that or is it that, that area can’t be built?
Closed off the game and restarted phone already.
I will email you a screenshot for clarity.

    • Thanks for the screenshot, unfortunately this isn’t a glitch, this is as far as the balcony can reach. The only way to fill that space would be to place a support post underneath the 2×2 area which isn’t the best as it will be in the way of the door but it is really the only option other than leaving that area without the balcony.
