GHOST HUNTERS QUEST – HAUNTED ITEMS – ADULT SIMS ONLY – PRIZES: GHOST TANK AND 5LP
Adult sims will be able to complete this hobby once you have completed the Ghost Hunters Quest. Once you have, you will need to buy haunted objects from the home store and place them in a sims house.
NOTE: Once you place the ghost hunting items in your house the lights will flash every so often which can be an issue for some players so please bare that in mind.
What are haunted items?
These are items in the home store which have a red ghost symbol on them:
You can buy as many as you want so you can have as many adult sims as you want completing this hobby at once
Once placed tap on the item and select the option ‘Search for Ghosts’ the time varies slightly depending on the star rating the item you brought has:
- 1 Star haunted objects- 3 mins 30 seconds
- 2 star haunted objects- 3 minutes 9 seconds
- 3 star haunted objects- 2 minutes 48 seconds
After the time has passed come back and click the exclamation mark above your sims head, a ghost will then appear, you need to then tap the ghost three times before it escapes to find one of the ghost collectibles. If the ghost escapes you will not get a ghost collectible.
Haunted items need recharging after you use them so you have to wait before using them to search again (you can get around this by getting as many haunted items as possible in your house or building the Haunted House if you completed the Ghost Hunter Quest in the time limit!)
Time for recharging varies depending on the star rating the haunted object has:
- 3 star- 10 minutes
- 2 star- 20 minutes
- 1 star- 30 minutes
Every time you search for ghosts your ghost hunting hobby skill level up percentage will increase, once you reach 100% you will level up, there are 8 levels. You need to reach level 8 to be able to unlock all of the ghost collectibles, once unlocked you will be able to find them.
The table below shows the level up percentage:

For example you will need to search for ghosts twice to reach level 2 from level 1
The next table shows you for each level what ghost collectibles you unlock (so you can then find those ones too) and also the level up reward that a second and future sims will receive when they level up in this hobby:

NOTE: only the first sim completing this hobby needs to get to level 8 to unlock all the collectibles, future sims will be able to find any collectible even if they are only on level 1 in this hobby!
You won’t find a new collectible each time, you will get repeats, if this happens just keep going, you will find them eventually! If it is still taking too long you can use the lucky spin on the row where you cannot find the item, this will cost LPs, when you click on the LP button it will clear the row and give you a random collectible on that row so you aren’t guaranteed a new item (you will get back any other collectibles you already had in that row) Need to earn some LPs to use the lucky spin?
The completed ghost hunting collection is shown below, once you complete the collection you need to click ‘start a new collection/ hunt again’ at the top of the hobby collection screen, this clears the board so you can complete the collection again to earn more rewards (you will only get the option to restart the hobby collection when you have completed the collection):
The first time you complete this collection you will unlock an item for each row, further times you complete this collection you will earn XPs when you complete a row in the hobby but to complete the collection you need to find all 18 of the collectibles
- The rewards for completing each row are:
First row: Spooky Stairs (stairs section- S40,000)
Second row: Frightening Flooring (floors section- S160 each)
Third row: Halloween Table (dining room section- S900)
Fourth row: Wicked Wallpaper (walls section- S15 each)
Fifth row: Haunted Elevator (stairs section- S250,000)
Sixth row: Teen Roman Costumes (free in wardrobe under outfits for teens once you build the costume and swim store)
- You will also unlock the ghost containment tank when you complete the whole collection for the first time (which can be found in the decorations section and costs S8,000)
- From the second time onwards each time you complete the collection you will earn 5LP

My sim is stuck in a neighborhood while she is ghost hunting. I cannot get her back. Once I try to go and pick her up to, the game crashes, and it pushes me out from the game. what should ı do really ı dont know! It says search for ghosts in her mood, she completed searching but ı cannot go to the neighborhood. please help dear.
Try closing the game and turning off your device, then turn it on again, it should give you enough time to get her out of the neighbours town and back home
unfortunately ı already tried that twice. But the problem şs not solved. she is not coming back, once ı try game pushes me out :(:( ı really dont know ı hope she does not dıe there!!!
She won’t die, does your game ever cancel all the actions your sims are doing when your game crashes? They should come back home when this happens
no my game never cancel all the actions when it crashes. ıt is not like the other crashes, it is really a neighbor crash. and really i cannot do anythıng i m so sad. ı cannot delete the sim, ı cannot see the sim, when ı tap ıt crashes always and always ı ve tried so much tıme!! please help me please

I think it takes a very long time to complete this hobby, and afterr playing the sims freeplay for about three years ive finally atttempted to complete my collection…. I have two sims ghost hunting in my haunted house. The problem is that i have to check on them every three minutes, and once you’re level 5 or so it takes thirty hunting sessions or more to actually promote to the next level! And indont really have the nerve for that…. Somis it smart tomhave more than one sim hunting or di you have any other tips??
when you are trying to level up having more sims won’t help you, all you can really do is just stay on the game and keep doing the 3 minutes over and over. I just leave one of my sims on this hobby all the time, even if I don’t check it all day, he is still going to level up a bit!

My sim see a ghost while doing this hobby but it doesn’t get added to my hobby collection. Why?
You need to click on the ghost 3 times to catch it.

Is anyone having a problem when you keep getting the same ghost everytime no matter how many ghost objects (have a whole house filled with just ghost items) and my sims are high level ghost catchers? (Level 6) I keep getting “nanny frightsmith” everytime? I’ve turned it of and on again, nothing changed! It’s been happening for a while now.
Sometimes it takes a while to get other ghosts, just keep trying I’m sure you will get them eventually- if not it may be a glitch so you might need to contact EA to let them know
Hello, I came across your comment now and was wondering if/how did you fix the issue ? I started ghost hunting a few days ago and for the last 2 days, all my 7 ghost hunting sims have caught Nanny Frightsmith and only her. I don’t know how to fix this issue.

I am still having this issue. Its been a few weeks now.
I have the same problem. I’ve noticed that after ghost huntung, the hobby level bar goes up to some % but when I ghost hunt again it starts again from 0% so can’t reach 100%. I’m stuck on level 5 and I can’t go up.
This is a glitch in the game, I noticed this when one of my sims was cooking the other day it kept going up and down but she still got to the next level- so it is possible to still level up
I’m having that same problem! Always getting Nanny Frightsmith, even tho my ghost hunter is lvl 5… I’ve tried moving them into a different house, and I’ve tried having another sim who was a ghost hunter do it & still, just that 1 ghost!

Same here! I have found Hugo Argh about one hundred consecutive times! I’ve tried switching hunters, objects, and locations. My social task is to catch Mr. Flapsworth in a neighboring town, but whether in my town or a friend’s town all that turns up is Hugo! Just going to keep trying…. Nice blog, btw!

Hi weightless, great site you have here! I use it quite a bit to plan out my quests. Question for you… Right now I have about 14 Sims working on the fashion hobby to gain LP. Using all 14 Sims, I could usually complete a collection with about 2 or 3 turns on the fashion designer tables. Though it seems to take a lot longer ever since the fashion quest came out. Anyway, I just unlocked the ghost hunting hobby and I was wondering if it would be wise to switch over my fashion designers to goat hunters? My goal is to collect as much LP as possible. Thanks for the help and keep up the good work with the site 🙂

Yes I would, mainly because after you have completed the collection the first time you will get 5LPs for everytime you complete it instead of 3LPs in the fashion hobby, but you can only search for ghosts for 3 and a half minutes at a time so you have to be on the game more and it could take you longer to level up. Maybe keep some as fashion designers for now and get a few started on the ghost hunting 🙂
Is there an issue with the ghost hunting right now. I have only found Nanny Frightsmith for over 2 weeks. I even built the Haunted House to try and fix it but it didn’t work. I’ll never be able to finish collecting if this keeps happening.

I was just going through this until today. I have three ghost hunters, all working primarily in the haunted house. One of them hit level five, found Hugo Argh, and from that point on that is all any of the hunters found, no matter what. No matter the item searched, the house searched, breaks taken or anything else I could think of. Clearly it is a bug. That’s how I ended up in this thread, searching for a solution.
Today, however, one of the hunters finally hit level six, and instantly that fixed it. The next ghost found was the first level six ghost, and it is now back to random ghosts each time. My guess is that there is a bug that manifests occasionally when you have found all the ghosts your level will allow, and it gets stuck on one ghost. When you level up and thus unlock more possible ghosts, then that breaks you out of the bug and it randomizes the finds again.
I won’t be surprised if this happens again when I’ve found all the level six ghosts.

How many sims have you got doing this hobby? If only one, think about a few more to hopefully speed things up
I also noticed that, when I got to level 6 it seemed to be fixed but after a few searches, it went back to normal and I started again Nanny Frightsmith again
I found a fix online.
1. Do a force close on the app.
2. Reopen the app.
3. Select your Ghost Hunter.
4. Open their hobby so you can see which ghost they have caught.
5. Use lifestyle points to randomly select a ghost.
This worked for me. Good luck!

Forgot to add, it definitely seems like an issue with level 5 ghost hunter.
Another way to fix this is getting to the next level, that seems to sort it out too!
for halloween, I got a haunted dresser as a gift, but I haven’t gotten to the quest that lets you buy haunted items. It says the dresser is haunted, and it has the little red ghost by it. Is there any way I can start ghost hunting, or do I have to wait for the quest?

When do I get the ghost hunter quest? I’m level 26 and doing the teen idol quest.. =)
It is in at least 2 quests time, if you find the main quests post on this site it will show you what order the quests appear in.

Hi, since I started the Ghost Hunter Quest my home store freezes and won’t let me buy the spooky painting or other object. It only lets me buy a stack of magazine and use my inventory. PLEASE SOMEONE HELP!!! 😦
Have you tried buying the magazines again? If you have and this still doesn’t work you may have to contact EA
My ghost hunter used to get 7% experience towards the next level every time he hunted a ghost. I got to level 5 and it started only giving me 2% (sometimes it doesn’t even give me any at all). He has hunted 31 times during level 5 and is only 55% towards level 6. Is this a glitch, is there some way to fix this issue, or does it just take 50-75 hunts to level up in this hobby? Thank you 🙂
You only get 2% when you reach level 5, level 1 you tend to get 50%, then level 2 is 25% and so on so it decreases each time you level up to make it take longer to get to the next level

First of all, thank you for all your work! I have one question.
I am leveling a sim in ghost hunting. She is currently at level 6 and stuck there. As soon as she gets to about 96%, her stats reset to 0% at level six. I’ve tried an embaressing number of times to get her past. Any suggestions?

This is a glitch in the game, I noticed this when one of my sims was cooking the other day it kept going up and down but she still got to the next level then it did the same thing at that level so it is possible to still level up, I would suggest you just keep going with the hobby and hopefully they will sort this out soon

I had this issue leveling up to level 8 on my fishing hobby. It seemed like every time the bug fish came and ate him he reset at 0%. Eventually he did level up though. And I haven’t seen it happen on any other hobbies.
This is a glitch on every hobby but it doesn’t stop you from levelling up, the hobby bar % just goes back to 0 everytime you do the hobby but if you look when you finish the hobby it will show the correct % before you start it again

I completed the ghost hobby weeks ago and got the containment tank but before that, wasn’t I also supposed to get gladiator costumes? I didn’t think to check right away but I saw that that was the prize (I think) for completing one of the last sets. I’ve checked the costume shop, mall, inventory… Everything I can think of. Where are they or am I wrong that it was a gift?
Only teens can wear them, have you checked your wardrobe?

Just a heads up, I decided to install a couple of haunted items in my cooking house, so that sims who get to level 6 could restart the cooking hobby by hunting a ghost. Bad idea. The ghost hunter was trying to find ghosts in the dishes another sim was cleaning up – and his action died. Back to diversifying through fashion.
Hi! Just to let you know that Ghost Hunting was updated (I finished playing this hobbie on May 2015). Instead of winning XP you can win: floors, Halloween decor, wallpapers, a haunted elevator, a haunted stairs and Roman costumes.
Because. I follow your blog I was searching for the Roman costumes and they aren’t in the costume shop, that’s why I wanted to let you know the update and probably someone knows about it?

Hey, is it worth it to unlock the hobby? The only option is only 3 mins and it’s so difficult to level it up on above level 5. I think the other hobbies always have short and long tasks, makes it easy to differentiate strategy. This is the first time I am having difficulty to level up. Oh well..
Yes it is worth it, it is just quite time consuming reaching level 8 but once you get there you can complete the hobby fairly quickly to earn LPs
I think it now consists of 8 levels. At level 6, it only increases 2%, so I guess it’ll be 1% for level 7 and 8. It’s a bit crazy, lol

you can’t miss quests, you should be able to find the dancers in the park to start the quest, once the quest has completed you will be able to do the hobby.

I have no idea if it’s a glitch or something but due to technical difficulties I couldn’t access my game. During that time most of my sims turned red. Except the guy who was ghost hunting – he was as inspired as he was the time I was there last time.

I have a problem whith the Halloween table. I don’t know why but I have purchased the table and put it in my house. But when I click on “grab a plate” my sims won’t sit at the table instead they just stand up and eat. And of course I have put chairs around to but it won’t still work 😥
I think the halloween table is a bit like a buffet table so you don’t actually sit at that table to eat

This is definitely my favourite hobby! You unlock so many items and it takes such a short time to complete! It so reminds me of the old Sims Freeplay when there were only 2 hobbies!

Hi there! I completed this hobby a few days ago but I can’t find the roman clothes for teens anywhere? I got the message/notification saying that I had unlocked them and I checked both the shop and wardrobe for outfits for teens but they just aren’t there? I got all the other stuff just fine. Same thing happened when I completed the fashion designer hobby, I was supposed to receive the new outfits but I can’t find them. Can you help? Thanks!
The fashion designer hobby outfits are in the adult male and female outfit sections of the store and you have to now buy them so the roman clothes can probably be found in the teen store under outfits if you cannot find them in the wardrobe under outfits.

Hi! Would it be possible for you to put a note/warning on this post for people with epilepsy and/or aversion to flashing lights? I didn’t realize that the screen would flash the way it does when you catch a ghost and I had to close my phone immediately. Maybe since so many people read your blog, if you post a seizure warning, it could help others avoid this problem!
