This guide will show you pictures of each of the houseboats available on the mysterious island and my opinion of each one to help you decide which one you would like to build first, they all cost SPs so I will include the prices so you can start to save up while you work on unlocking a houseboat plot.
The boats are:
- The Tinytight Pocket
- The Cavernous Cruiser
- The Pint Sized Prince
- The Royal Wavecutter
How do I unlock houseboat plots?
Each monument unlocks a houseboat plot once you reach level 5 on that monument (I am still working on monuments so a post will be created as soon as I have completed them)
So if you are past level 33 and have got to/ past level 5 on each monument you will have unlocked all of the houseboat plots!
The Tinytight Pocket- 3/5
This is the cheapest houseboat but it still costs 20SPs which I think is just a bit excessive for what you get. Its a one story, one bedroom houseboat that could fit 2 sims in (but it may be a bit of a squeeze) it has a good sized bathroom but I don’t like that the wardrobe had to be put in there, it just doesn’t work, if you need a wardrobe maybe you could replace that with a chest of drawers, that would look better. I think the kitchen and living area are really nice, they are a good size and they have managed to fit a dining table in! The bedroom and outside areas are a little cramped but overall I think its a nice little starter boat and an extra floor could always be added!
The Cavernous Cruiser- 4/5
This is a two story houseboat with room for 3 sims to live here, again the price is quite expensive, it will cost you 40SPs!
I really like this houseboat actually, it has good sized living areas and I think the kitchen and bathroom sizes work well for this, but you could always make the dining area smaller and make those two rooms bigger, if you really wanted!
There is a good sized bedroom upstairs which has three single beds in it but you could always turn that into one big master bedroom for a couple or even put the bathroom up there!
It even has a garden plot outside the house and a good sized garden area.
NOTE: You need to have completed the multi story renovations quest to be able to build this houseboat.
The Pint Sized Prince- 4/5
This is a one story houseboat that costs a staggering 65SPs! You don’t actually get that much for your money with any of these houseboats.
This is a good sized houseboat for a family of 4 but they have substituted the garden area for those extra and larger rooms which is a shame.
But saying that, the layout of the house is good, I do like the living area, its a great size and is open plan into the dining area. There is even a games room with a ships wheel in it which is a nice decoration.
The kitchen and bathroom again are good sized and this bathroom even has a bath in it!
The Royal Wavecutter- 4.5/5
This is a really beautiful looking houseboat but it will cost you 100SPs!
Its a two story, two bedroom house with a double bed in each so two couples could fit in here easily or one of them could be a children’s room.
Downstairs there are two really good sized rooms, the kitchen and the living room, the dining table is right in the corner of the kitchen but I think it would look better moved over.
Glass doors lead out to the outside area which has a small swimming pool in it- I love it! However it does mean there is no room for gardening plots but I can forgive that!
There is a nice size bathroom upstairs but no bath although that could be easily added.
NOTE: You need to have completed the multi story renovations quest to be able to build this houseboat.

If the bed is situated against a wall, only one sim can sleep on it as the second sim won’t have access to the side of bed that is against the wall.

I’ve never once had 2 sims sleeping in a bed at once so it doesn’t really affect the amount of people who can live there but it’s your choice.

Is it possible to buy an empty lot houseboot and build it yourself? I’m just one upgrade away from my first boat, but I’m not a huge fan of ready made houses.
August 3, 2014 at 10:17 pm
Nope you can’t, I just deleted the rooms and rebuilt it how I wanted it to get around the problem 🙂

I haven’t bought a houseboat yet. I was wondering how much it is to do a 2nd story? Same as a regular house lot? Thanks in advance!
October 1, 2014 at 2:52 pm
I think so! A 3rd story definitely costs the same amount 🙂
October 20, 2014 at 6:03 am
HI 🙂 Are all the houseboats the same size? Or is there actually more space on the more expensive boats… i can’t tell from the photos. Could you theoretically buy the cheapest boat and delete all the rooms and build the most expensive houseboat on it with simoleons? (or whatever kind of house you want).
November 6, 2014 at 7:35 pm
I think they are the same size
But yes you can redesign the houseboats just like you would redesign a house

I just did a second floor on a houseboat and it cost $300,000
November 6, 2014 at 3:52 pm
Hi does anyone know if you can change the furniture I’ve just purchased my first boat and don’t really like the look of it and want it to change it a bit . Thanks
November 6, 2014 at 4:00 pm
Yes, like a house you pick up the furniture and it stores in your inventory for you to buy new furniture in its place
November 18, 2014 at 10:01 pm
If you buy a houseboat using SPs, will adding rooms, second floors and furniture also cost SPs, or can they just be bought by Simoleans and LPs?
November 19, 2014 at 1:26 pm
No they will cost simoleons and LPs unless you are buying an item from the store that costs SPs

Hi there, if i get my riches of terra monument to level 5 which houseboat will be unlocked? Thanks.
December 17, 2014 at 2:24 pm
I can’t remember but if you click on the houseboats it will tell you which one unlocks when
February 5, 2015 at 4:23 am
It unlocks all 4. The Royal Wavecutter is 100 SPs now, just a heads up. That’s what I’m saving for ☺.

Updated.

I just built the small houseboat but it took LPs off me as well as SPs. Where could I ask to get these back. It also didn’t add a LP I won now I’m down to just 8LP. Thank you and love this site lots of help xx
December 31, 2014 at 3:07 pm
you will need to contact EA about that as it seems to be a technical issue and I can’t fix those, sorry!
You’re welcome!

Hi!
Just thought I’d add a little something: economy houseboats have a 6×12 landplot while the premium houseboats are 8×18. (Paying an extra 45 SPs will get you 2×6 more land!)
January 30, 2015 at 11:43 am
I have just unlocked the 2/3 storey buildings and to buy a Royal Wavecutter would cost me a staggering 100SP! I may just build a house instead.
I do already have one of the smaller boats, perhaps this pushed the price up? I do have the SP saved up, but the houses seem much better value. Undecided!!!
February 8, 2015 at 7:00 pm
yes they do update things in the game a lot, I have changed it in the post now.
February 7, 2015 at 7:31 pm
I upgraded the monument to level 5 unlock my first houseboat and I am already well past the town level required, but when I click on the houseboat plot, it doesn’t show the options to buy. Does anyone know the problem or how to fix it?
February 11, 2015 at 12:22 pm
Each momument unlocks a different houseboat at level 5, there should be one where the symbol is yellow, that is the one you can build
February 13, 2015 at 8:27 pm
So the boats cost sp. i dont have any, i know how to get them, but i dont have any

Can you make the houseboats float around on the water, or do they just sit there? Seems to me it would be a waste if they don’t move, I mean what would be the point of having one.
March 9, 2015 at 8:33 pm
they just sit on the water
March 14, 2015 at 2:13 pm
I just want to add something: If you haven’t completed the Multi-Story Renovations quest, you cannot build The Cavernous Cruiser and The Royal Wavecutter

Added to the post
March 30, 2015 at 12:57 pm
I don’t have a game center account to be able to join the partyboat. How do I get SPs?
March 30, 2015 at 8:24 pm
The only other way is to add players through a facebook account
April 25, 2015 at 9:49 pm
Two of them are two stories, and you said you can build them after the multi stories renovations quest, which I haven’t done yet. But before that you said if all your monuments are level five, then you will unlock all. What do you mean?
April 27, 2015 at 11:10 am
you unlock all the houseboat plots, but you have to complete the multi story renovations quest to build the 2 story boats.
April 27, 2015 at 1:25 pm
oh okay thanks
June 13, 2015 at 7:56 am
Hi! I want to build a swimming pool in one of my houseboats.. I deleted rooms but it seems i cannot build a pool.. Any advise?
June 20, 2015 at 4:57 pm
a pool needs to be at least 3×3, 4×4 with the paving, you can’t build a pool smaller than that.
