The Sims Freeplay- Empty House Options

When you click on an empty house a pop up will appear, in this post I am going to explain what each of these options means.

  • Add New Sim- Click to be taken to create a sim to add a new adult sim to the game, will be greyed out if you are at your sim limit for that level.
  • Relocate existing sim- Click to move a sim you already have in the town into a different house, you may want to use this option to separate a sim from a family or just move a sim from one house to another. It will cost you S5000 and you can only do this while that sim isn’t busy
  • Relocate household- Click to move a whole household from one house to another, this will cost you S8000 and you can only do this while all sims from that household aren’t doing anything
  • View house- Click on this to see the empty house, use this for decorating before moving a sim in
  • Demolish House- Click this to delete the house, all items will move into your inventory, it will not decrease the amount it will cost to build another house. (I would sell all rooms before you demolish a house otherwise you won’t get any money) Click here to watch this video for more information on deleting houses

When a sim lives in a house the only thing you can do is view house, you need to move out the sim before any of these options will appear.

The Sims Freeplay- Adding Stairs

Adding stairs can be a bit tricky if you haven’t done it before so hopefully this guide will be useful!

Please note you can only add stairs once you have completed the Multi Story Renovations Quest.

Once that is completed you can add a new floor, to do this, click on floor construction (second tab in the house section of home store)

Then you will see a white highlighted area, click that and it will show you how much a new floor will cost you, click the green tick to buy it.

Then you need to add rooms to your new floor, you do this by clicking on the upstairs button on the right of the screen:

This will take you to the next level, then you can add a room like you normally do, if you don’t know how, read this post

NOTE: you must add rooms to the second floor before you can add stairs!

Lastly you can add the stairs! Stairs is the third tab, select the one you want to buy and you can then place it in your house:

The image below shows you how it looks when the stairs can’t be placed:

Why can’t I place stairs in my house?

  • There may be something in the way downstairs (like in my picture above)
  • You may be trying to place stairs through the white lines- the white dotted lines show you were the rooms are above so you cannot place stairs on them:

  • There may be something in the way on the floor above- use the floor button on the side of your screen to see what is in the way upstairs (the squares will appear red if there is something in the way upstairs)

To fix this you could move items upstairs that are in the way, if you can’t because a wall is in the way you may need to choose a different style of stairs which is what I did, I couldn’t fit in these stairs so I decided on the compact staircase instead.

This picture is how it should look when you can place the stairs in your house, press the green tick to buy them:

You now have stairs in your house!

How much does each floor cost?

2nd- S300,000

3rd- S500,000

4th- S800,000

5th- S1,000,000

Which floor do I have to place the stairs on?

If you want your stairs to reach the second floor you will need to place your stairs on the ground floor

If I delete my house will I still have the 2nd and 3rd floors or will I have to buy them again?

Unfortunately you will have to buy them again now, they have annoyingly changed this!

Can I add more than 4 sims to my house now I have another floor?

No, the maximum is still four

The Sims Freeplay- Building, Deleting and Resizing Rooms

This is a quick guide to show you how to build, resize and delete rooms in the game.

You firstly need to go to the house section of the home store and it will open on the first tab called rooms:

This gives you some instructions about how to build a room:

To build a room, hold and drag on the grass or anywhere within an existing house. A green room means it’s clear to build, red means that it cannot be built.

Drag on walls marked with a white highlight to resize existing rooms.

Like the instructions say you need to hold and drag on the grass inside the grid, you cannot build a room outside of the grid. Once you have dragged and created a room you will see an image similar to the one below:

Click on the red cross to delete it or click the green tick to build it for the price shown on screen.

The room will appear red as shown below if you cannot build it there:

Deleting a room is actually selling it as you will earn simoleons when you delete it. To delete a room you need to go to the rooms tab again, then you can click on a room and if it can be deleted it will look like the image below:

You can click the tick to keep the room or click the red simoleon to sell the room for the price that is shown next to the red simoleon button. All the items in the room will move to your inventory- apart from the wallpaper and flooring.

Please note not all rooms can be deleted, if it appears like the image below you can’t delete it:

Why can’t I delete a room?

Two main reasons are:

  • If you have a second or third floor you will be unable to delete a room when there is a room above it, you need to delete the room above first, which is why I cannot delete the room in the image above.
  • If there is a plate in the room you will need to get a sim to clean it up first before you will be able to delete the room.

On the same tab you can resize any room that has a highlighted arrowed edge, it will look like the image below:

When you resize the room the options that appear are the same as building a room.

Why can’t I resize every room? If two rooms of different sizes are next to each other then you will not get the option to resize between the two rooms, rooms have to be the same size to resize them together.

For example:

The lounge and kitchen can be resized to make one of them smaller and the other one bigger:

But the hallway and lounge cannot be resized because the hallway is longer than the lounge:

Frequently asked Questions:

  • Can you add a room inside a room? No you cannot
  • Can you delete a wall? No, you can only delete the whole room
  • Can I join two rooms together to make one? You cannot delete walls but you could do this either by adding a door between the two rooms or deleting the rooms and building one big room in place
  • Why can’t I delete rooms on my ground floor? If you have a room above you will have to delete the room above first before you can delete rooms below
  • What is the smallest room you can build? 1×2
  • Can I move a house to a new lot? No you cannot
  • Can I move a room to a different part of the same lot? No you cannot, you would have to delete the room and build it where you wanted it
  • Why can’t some rooms be resized? If rooms are a different size then you will not be able to resize them, read the resizing section of this post for more information
  • Can I change the flooring/walls in half of the room? No, you will have to have the same flooring/ walls in the whole room
  • How do I add a second floor and stairs? Give this post a read!

The Sims Freeplay- Houseboats Guide

This guide will show you pictures of each of the houseboats available on the mysterious island and my opinion of each one to help you decide which one you would like to build first, they all cost SPs so I will include the prices so you can start to save up while you work on unlocking a houseboat plot.

The boats are:

  • The Tinytight Pocket
  • The Cavernous Cruiser
  • The Pint Sized Prince
  • The Royal Wavecutter

How do I unlock houseboat plots?

Each monument unlocks a houseboat plot once you reach level 5 on that monument (I am still working on monuments so a post will be created as soon as I have completed them)

So if you are past level 33 and have got to/ past level 5 on each monument you will have unlocked all of the houseboat plots!

The Tinytight Pocket– 3/5

This is the cheapest houseboat but it still costs 20SPs which I think is just a bit excessive for what you get. Its a one story, one bedroom houseboat that could fit 2 sims in (but it may be a bit of a squeeze) it has a good sized bathroom but I don’t like that the wardrobe had to be put in there, it just doesn’t work, if you need a wardrobe maybe you could replace that with a chest of drawers, that would look better. I think the kitchen and living area are really nice, they are a good size and they have managed to fit a dining table in! The bedroom and outside areas are a little cramped but overall I think its a nice little starter boat and an extra floor could always be added!

The Cavernous Cruiser– 4/5

This is a two story houseboat with room for 3 sims to live here, again the price is quite expensive, it will cost you 40SPs!
I really like this houseboat actually, it has good sized living areas and I think the kitchen and bathroom sizes work well for this, but you could always make the dining area smaller and make those two rooms bigger, if you really wanted!
There is a good sized bedroom upstairs which has three single beds in it but you could always turn that into one big master bedroom for a couple or even put the bathroom up there!
It even has a garden plot outside the house and a good sized garden area.

NOTE: You need to have completed the multi story renovations quest to be able to build this houseboat.

The Pint Sized Prince– 4/5

This is a one story houseboat that costs a staggering 65SPs! You don’t actually get that much for your money with any of these houseboats.
This is a good sized houseboat for a family of 4 but they have substituted the garden area for those extra and larger rooms which is a shame.
But saying that, the layout of the house is good, I do like the living area, its a great size and is open plan into the dining area. There is even a games room with a ships wheel in it which is a nice decoration.
The kitchen and bathroom again are good sized and this bathroom even has a bath in it!

The Royal Wavecutter– 4.5/5

houseboat4[2]This is a really beautiful looking houseboat but it will cost you 100SPs!
Its a two story, two bedroom house with a double bed in each so two couples could fit in here easily or one of them could be a children’s room.
Downstairs there are two really good sized rooms, the kitchen and the living room, the dining table is right in the corner of the kitchen but I think it would look better moved over.
Glass doors lead out to the outside area which has a small swimming pool in it- I love it! However it does mean there is no room for gardening plots but I can forgive that!
There is a nice size bathroom upstairs but no bath although that could be easily added.

NOTE: You need to have completed the multi story renovations quest to be able to build this houseboat.

The Sims Freeplay- Multi Story Renovations Quest

LEVEL UNLOCKS: 17 UNLOCKS: 2-5 storys, stairs and firepoles TIME LIMIT: 6 days PRIZE: elevators and escalators pack

If you have not unlocked this quest yet it is because previous quests have to be completed first.

This quest is unlocked at level 17. Once completed you will be able to add extra floors to your houses! You have 6 days to complete this quest if you want the prize of the elevators and escalators pack (no its not actually a pack, you have to buy each one separately). If you don’t complete in 6 days you can still complete the quest you just won’t get the prize.

How long does this quest take to complete?

VERSION ONE– if this isn’t correct for you please scroll down for version two

Times may vary depending on the star rating an item has.

  • Build the community center- time and price may vary (need more money?)
  • Send a sim to the community center
  • Talk to wumples- 5 minutes (at community center)
  • Press look upstairs button while at the community center (pulsing button in top right hand corner)
  • Carve magnum opus- 12 hours 30 minutes (using workbench, can be started early)
  • See wumples for psychoanalysis- 16 hours 30 minutes
  • Share ideas with wumples- 4 hours 20 minutes
  • Call home store using phone: call hotline- 19 hours (if you make two sims do this option at different houses and leave one of them alone until you get this same goal for the second time you can save yourself 19 hours!)
  • Browse Internet- 4 minutes
  • Bake banana bread- 20 hours (doesn’t matter if burns, can be started early)
  • Check email- 48 seconds
  • Craft 1st set of woodworking items (don’t find all 3 before this goal as it won’t recognise you’ve completed it and you will have to find the next 3 too!)

  • Creative chat with a sim- 12 hours 30 minutes
  • Call home store on phone- 19 hours
  • Talk to wumples- 5 minutes
  • See wumples for psychoanalysis- 16 hours 30 minutes
  • Have 3 sims dancing to stereo

Times may vary depending on the star rating an item has.

time and price varies depending on how many businesses you have already but these are the requirements I had

    • Send a sim to the community center
    • Talk to wumples- 2 minutes (at community center)
    • Press look upstairs button while at the community center (pulsing button in top right hand corner)

    • See wumples for psychoanalysis- 7 minutes

    • Share ideas with wumples- 3 minutes 30 seconds

    • Call home store hotline using phone: call hotline- 9 hours (this goal appears twice so if you make two sims do this option at different houses and leave one of them at that house until you get this goal for the second time you can save yourself 9 hours as it will complete the goal as soon as you go to that house)

    • Browse the Internet- 4 minutes (on a computer)
    • Bake banana bread- 20 hours (doesn’t matter if burns, can be started early)
    • Check email- 48 seconds (on a computer)
    • Creative chat with a sim- 2 minutes 48 seconds

  • Call home store on phone- 9 hours
  • Talk to wumples- 2 minutes
  • See wumples for psychoanalysis- 7 minutes
  • Have 3 sims dancing to stereo (task completes straight away)

You can now add up to 5 floors to your house- a second floor costs 300,000, a third floor costs 500,000, a fourth floor costs 800,000 and a fifth floor costs 1,000,000!
You unlock stairs and firepoles even if you don’t finish the quest in time

Once you complete the patio, balcony and basement quests you will unlock 4 more stairs:

Prize: Elevators and Escalators

Is the prize worth it? Yes, there are some really nice elevators and escalators available but you do have to buy them, it also is quite tricky to complete the quest within the time limit especially if it takes you ages to  save up and build the community center.

Where can I find them? In the stairs section of the home store.

You cannot unlock the elevators or escalators if you do not complete this quest in the time limit

The woodworking hobby information can be found here

Thanks for reading!

The next quest is Teenagers

This quest was correct at time of writing, it may change.

please read before asking

I have missed this quest! Why can’t I start it yet?
You cannot miss main quests they have to be completed in order. You need to complete all previous quests (list can be found here) and reach level 17 before you can start this quest

Can I complete this quest even though I am passed level 17?
Yes, you just need to complete all previous quests then this quest will start automatically

Why are there two versions of this quest?
Some quests have two versions, as when the makers have updated the times for quests they haven’t updated them on all devices so some players still get the old times

I can’t afford the community center, how can I earn more simoleons?
This post may help

The game says I have to complete the multi story renovations quest to be able to build the community center, what is the problem?
There is no problem,  you have to start the multi story quest and the first goal is to build the community center so you cannot build it until you get that first goal in the quest

How do I send my sim to the community center?
Go to the community center and click on the whistle next to a sim who isn’t busy on the simtracker, this post explains more about the simtracker

I don’t understand what you mean when you say you can do both call the home store/ hotline goals at once to save time?
This goal appears twice so it is like being able to start a goal early that you have access to (read the question below if you don’t understand this) to do this you need two sims and two different houses:
1- When you get the goal to call home store you can set sim 1 to do the task
2- In a different house which you need to stay away from until you get the second goal you can have sim 2 also do the task
3- When sim 1 is done you complete the goal the first time
4- Wait until you get the goal again to call home store and you can go to sim 2 to complete it straight away!

What do you mean when you say a goal can be started early?
Any goal that you can normally do can be started early because you will have access to it and any goal that you can’t normally do you will have to wait until you get the goal to be able to complete it
The tip with this method is to put the sim doing that action early in a different house that you cannot go to until you get that goal or it will not work

Does it matter if the banana bread burns? Will the goal still complete?
The goal will still complete even if it causes a fire

I crafted the 1st set of woodworking items before I got the task to, my game now won’t complete the goal, what should I do?
You will need to find the next 3 items in the second row to complete this goal

What do I get if I complete this quest in the time limit?
Elevators and escalators

What happens if I don’t complete in the time limit, can I still finish this quest?
Yes you have to finish it to unlock the ability to add up to 5 floors to your houses as well as unlocking stairs and firepoles before you can move onto the next quest

I didn’t complete in the time limit, can I restart the quest?
No, you cannot redo quests

Can I still get the prize if I don’t complete in the time limit?
No, the only way to get the limited time prizes is by completing the quest in the time limit

I don’t like this quest! Can I just skip it?
No, you have to complete this quest before you can move onto the next one

I completed the quest but I cannot place stairs, why?
Firstly make sure you have rooms upstairs and also give this post a read, it explains how to add stairs to a house

Some times are slightly different on my game, why is this?
Times may vary depending on the star rating of the item you are using, as the higher star rating an item has the quicker you will complete a goal

Some times are really off/ different goals show for me, why is this?

This will be because the quest has been updated recently, I try my best to keep these posts up to date but it is difficult as I cannot redo every quest each time the game is updated. If you notice any changes please let me know so I can update the post

Watch my step by step video of version 2 of this quest here:
