This quest unlocks the sim sign and teen idol hobby for your teenage sims to complete, most of this quest is completing the hobby. If you complete this quest in the 7 day time limit you will unlock premium 3 star instruments. You can still complete this quest once the time limit is up to unlock the hobby but you won’t get the premium instruments

- Buy a stack of magazines- these can be found in the living room section of buy mode (costs S600)
- Make a teenager read teen celebrity magazine- 4 minutes 33 seconds (click on the stack of magazines and choose the teen celebrity option- only a teen can read this!) [click blue skip button to complete instantly]
- Make a teenager watch funny cat videos- 1 hour 40 minutes (on the computer)
- Send a teenager to the park
- Create a plan to become famous- 6 hours 10 minutes [inspired: 5 hrs 52 mins] (using the blackboard in the park on the pier)
YOU HAVE NOW UNLOCKED KEYBOARDS:
- Buy a keyboard from the home store (in the hobby and career items section) (cheapest costs S650)
The next goals have you completing the Teen Idol Hobby, each time you use one of the instruments you unlock in this quest you will write a piece of music, once you find all pieces of music you will have completed the hobby collection.
- Write music (using the keyboard to find notes- cheapest keyboard takes 1 hour) [inspired: 57 mins]
- Write 3 pieces of music (you have to find a new note to be counted as a piece of music using the keyboard so you need to find 2 more new pieces of music, when you have found all 3 you will unlock the next instrument)
YOU HAVE NOW UNLOCKED BASS GUITARS:
You unlock different instruments with each line of notes you find, the higher star rating the instruments have, the faster your sim will write music
Once you’ve found all the keyboard notes you will unlock the bass guitar which you can buy from the hobby and career items section of buy mode (cheapest costs S650) (cheapest takes 2 hours [inspired: 1 hr 54 mins] to make music) then when you have found all the bass guitar notes you unlock the drum kit and so on..
- Write 6 pieces of music (you need to use the bass guitar to find the next 3 pieces)
YOU HAVE NOW UNLOCKED DRUM KITS:
You can buy a drum kit from the hobby and career items section of buy mode (cheapest costs S650)
- Write 9 pieces of music (you need to use the drum kit to find the next 3) (cheapest takes 3 hours [inspired: 2 hrs 51 mins] to make music)
YOU HAVE NOW UNLOCKED ELECTRIC GUITARS:
You can buy an electric guitar from the hobby and career items section of buy mode (cheapest costs S650)
- Write 12 pieces of music (you need to use the electric guitar to find the next 3) (cheapest takes 4 hours [inspired: 3 hrs 48 mins] to make music)
YOU HAVE NOW UNLOCKED MICROPHONES:
You can buy a microphone from the hobby and career items section of buy mode (cheapest costs S650)
- Write 15 pieces of music (you need to use the microphone to find the last 3) SELECT WRITE SONG (SING) (cheapest takes 5 hours [inspired: 4 hrs 45 mins] to make music)

Once you complete this quest you unlock the Sim Sign
You will find the sim town sign near the premium residences by the estate agency- you need to upgrade it to get the chance to earn a bonus in revenue. When you upgrade it to level 3 you unlock the teen idol mansion- the first one is free! To upgrade the sim sign you need to collect the resources, to find these resources you can redo the collection and when you finish a line you get a resource or you can find them randomly when you do an action!

Time Limited Prize: Premium Instruments
Is the prize worth it? they are 3 star instruments so you can complete a collection quicker without buying the 3 star instruments that cost LP (but there is no difference between premium and 3 star instruments apart from the cost)
Where can I find them? In the hobby and career items section
Cost? Keyboard (S6,000) Bass (S6,500) Drumkit (S6,000) Guitar (S6,200) and Microphone (S5,500)

You cannot miss main quests they have to be completed in order. You need to complete all previous quests (list can be found here) and reach level 20 before you can start this quest
Can I complete this quest even though I have passed level 20?
Yes, you just need to complete all previous quests then this quest will start automatically
I can’t place the magazines in my house, why?
You need to put them on a table or counter, you cannot place them on the floor
My sims won’t read the magazine, help!
Do blue footprints appear? Read the answer below
Why do blue footprints appear when I try to use an item?
Blue footprints appear when your sim cannot access an item you want them to use, you need to either rotate the item or move an item that has been placed in front of it so they can use it
Help, all items are greyed out apart from the magazines! What should I do?
Buy the magazines again, this should allow you to access the rest of buy mode
Do I need a teen for this quest?
Yes, in this quest you complete the teen idol hobby for the first time so a teen is required to complete all the goals
Can I have more than one teen doing this at once?
No, only one teen can be the teen idol and complete this hobby at one time
I have done the task write 3 pieces of music but it will not complete, why?
You need to write 3 different pieces, you cannot just do the task 3 times
Why can’t I buy the microphone yet?
You need to find all 3 pieces of music on the keyboard, then all 3 on the bass guitar, then all 3 on the drum kit, then all 3 on the guitar and then you will be able to buy the microphone
I cannot find one of the pieces, what should I do?
Some take longer to get than others to find so just keep going, you will find them eventually!
What do I get if I complete this quest in the time limit?

What is the difference between the 3 star instruments and the premium instruments?
Apart from cost (3 star instruments cost LPs) there is no difference
What happens if I don’t complete in the time limit, can I still finish this quest?
Yes you have to finish it to unlock the teen idol hobby and sim sign before you can move onto the next quest

No, you cannot redo quests

How much time do all of the keyboards take. I don’t know if I want to spend lp on the other keyboards. I know the one star cost 650 simoleons. And that the two star cost 5 lp and the 3 star cost 10 lp. Is it worth it to buy a two star or three star keyboard. How long does it take for the two star and the three star to write a song. And does it have to be the one teen writing music or can you have multiple teens writing music using the keyboards.
I can’t afford to waste LPs on the 2 star keyboard but I have a 2 star mic which I’m basing this answer on: the 3 star definitely takes 30 minutes and I think the 2 star takes 1 hour like the one star!

I completed the task in time but the premium instruments are no longer free 😦 they are . 5500-6500 each. Very annoyed as I wouldn’t have bought most expensive things if I had known! Hate it when they change things like that! The first teen mansion better still be free!!!

This sounds like a technical issue so there isn’t anything I can do to fix this sorry, you will have to contact EA so they can fix it
This happened to me as well when the “Buy a stack of magazines” task came up for this quest – everything else was greyed out and all I could buy was that item. I just bought the magazines and then it went back to normal (i.e. I could buy other things again.) Just wanted to note this in case anyone else runs into this issue!

They can’t, only one teen can be teen idol so only that one sim can use the instruments for the hobby

This is the version I have. Can u offer any guidance? And I need another town to visit. The one that I can access doesn’t have so many of the things to help me complete my tasks. No pool, snow park, community centre, fashion design centre etc. Help?

I Finish the quest and once I finish I went to put a new bed in one of my houses, but all I can buy is a stack of magazines. I have tried resetting the game but it’s still the same
try and buy the magazines again, see if that works
Hi something has gone wrong! I have completed all of the quests in Road to Fame and it won’t let me purchase anything other than what is in my inventory and the magazines. I’m Lvl 20
Yes this is a glitch, have you tried buying the magazines again to see if it unlocks everything else? If not you should contact EA and let them know about the issue

hey, is it possible to go back and do quest that you’ve passed, I’m on level 31, however I hadn’t played for months and now that I’m back into it, things have happen in my town, a ton of quest yet I can’t seem to do them? Are you on a quest right now? If so you need to complete that quest first, you only do one quest at a time and they appear in a certain order.

Yes you just have to keep doing the hobby, over and over- it takes forever to upgrade the sim sign! But sometimes you can get a few parts just by doing actions-if you are lucky!
It looks like you actually can play instruments at a neighbor’s house to collect the notes – I just tried it as my neighbor has a three star drum set and it collected a new note once it was done!
Not when you are doing the quest though but you can afterwards, like any other hobby.

My active task is to write 6 pieces of music. I have the first set, but every single time I play the keyboard, it keeps giving me the same three. My teen is on level 4 of the hobby. Do I have to play the guitar that I got when I completed the first set to start unlocking the next set?
Yes, you need a bass guitar to find the next 3, then a drumkit for next 3, then the electric guitar for next 3 then microphone for last 3
I’m getting nowhere and very little time left to get 12 tunes on the base guitar. I notice both guitars are electric. I can’t progress further than nine tunes. Am I by any chance using the wrong guitar? I know this sounds stupid. Sorry.

I have 2 teens a boy and a girl in my house. I purchased the magazine stack but neither one of them wants to read the teen celebrity magazine. Above their heads when I click on the teen celebrity magazine choice is a circle with a line through it and all they give is a ugh grunt. Anybody else have this issue?

Hi, I see many other people have this issue that they can only buy a magazine stack, the rest is greyed. And yes, I did buy like 10 of them but it still won’t work! Very annoying, I can’t buy ANYTHING else. Is there a fix for it yet?
Buying more of them is the only fix that I know, it works for some people but not others it seems.
I’m really struggling to collect the pieces for the sign. Have redone the instruments and didn’t get any. My idol hasn’t gotten any from any normal tasks either. I got one from the idol interacting with neighbours teens but even that took ages. I spent two hours doing the quick options and only one dropped. Any tips/tricks on how to get the sign pieces? You need to find all 3 notes for each the drum kit, guitar and microphone to get 1 piece of each
Without using LPs it does take a long time to complete the sim sign

no it should be still there, are you on the goal to buy the keyboard yet? as you won’t see it until you get this goal.

It depends, like with every hobby it can take many tries to get a note so it very much depends on how lucky you are!
help! ever since i did this quest, I can’t seem to buy any furniture except the magazines. I’m already on level 27 but my furniture button is only allowing me to buy the magazines and nothing else. is there anyway i can fix this??
The only fix I know is to buy them again but this doesn’t work for everyone

You need to contact EA so they can fix this issue for you
According to the Sims Freeplay Facebook page, they are aware of the magazine issue and it will be fixed in a future update.
I contacted them about it, and they said someone would be in touch as soon as possible. In the meantime, I am able to purchase teen idol instruments at the Promotions R Us building to work on the quest.
Firemonkeys contacted me back and they were able to upload an older save. I can now access my save before the magazine problem.
I recommend contacting them.

None of my teens will start writing music on the keyboard I bought. They all just stamp their feet and wave their hands as if they’re refusing.
Can they access the right side of the keyboard? If you have it against a wall they won’t be able to use it.
The magazine issue has now happened to me… I have no idea how to contact ea games and I don’t have a facebook so I haven’t been able to save via “cloud” does this mean I have to restart ??! I’m on level 30 and doing teen idol quest I can’t afford to restart! Any help to find a way to get help without facebook ? -Thanks
Have you got the christmas update yet? If not update it to that, and see if that helps
I’ve been doing the quest “WRITE 3 MUSIC PIECES ” i’ve been doing this for the whole day with a 3 star keyboard but I just found 2 for the whole day , is there a problem ?
And for the magazine problem I’ve been through it yesterday. You just have to buy one stack of magazine and go to other sims house then go into the home store again
No there isn’t, some notes take longer to find than others, you just have to keep going.

I finished the Road to fame quest and I used LPs to upgrade the sign to level 1. But now even more LPs are needed to upgrade and though I have enough, if I continue upgrading to level 3, I will be left with no Lps. Please share some tips..or tell me how long did it take you to unlock the Teen Idol mansion, how many LPs did you use, etc. I hope I’ll get an answer. Thank you!!!
You need to do the teen idol hobby over and over to find the pieces you need for the sim sign but it takes forever without using LPs.
I used about 100LPs to complete the sign so it only took a few months

you just need to keep going, there are no tricks to getting it quickly

They said that someone will contact me. I am stuck because I will not be able to complete quest in time. Is there any other way to get around this?
There isn’t anything I can suggest really as this is a technical issue, just keep contacting EA at least once a week until they sort it out because it isn’t fair that you can’t complete it and they won’t reply

Yes, once the collection is complete you have to reset and recomplete, then each time you finish you have to reset it.
