Once you have completed this quest you will be able to start the ghost hunting hobby! If you complete this quest in the time limit you will unlock the haunted house. You can still complete this quest once the time limit is up to unlock the hobby but you won’t get the haunted house

- Send a sim to the park
- Hide in the public toilet in the park- 36 seconds
- Buy the spooky painting (from the decorations section- red ghost icon in corner- free)
NOTE: items in the store with the red ghost symbol are haunted items, once you complete this quest you can click on these objects to search for ghosts to complete the ghost hunting hobby
- Hide from the painting- 40 seconds
- Drink a herbal tea- 2 minutes
- Complain to the toilet- 5 hours
- Complain to a spooky painting- 5 hours 30 minutes
- Get 4 sims in the park
- Hold a conference on a soapbox in the park- 19 hours 36 minutes
- Look for ghosts with a video camera (in the park)- 16 hours 30 minutes
- Buy another spooky painting- free
- Buy spooky bookshelf- S200
- Read fine literature- 9 hours 30 minutes (using a 3 star bookcase, it takes longer on spooky bookshelf as it is only a one star bookcase (can be started early))
- Buy spooky chains- S180
- Tell jokes to the spooky chains- 4 hours 30 minutes

Is the prize worth it? Yes it really is, its a cool house with lots of haunted items already in it, if you count up the amount of items that cost LP in the house, buying this house is cheaper than making a similar one yourself!
Cost? The first one is free then after that it costs simoleons, price varies on the amount of houses you already have built

- Complain to a spooky painting- 6 hours
- Get 4 sims to the park
- Hold a conference on a soapbox in the park- 1 day
- Look for ghosts with a video camera (in the park)- 16 hours 30 minutes

Why do blue footprints appear when I try to use an item?
Blue footprints appear when your sim cannot access an item you want them to use, you need to either rotate the item or move an item that has been placed in front of it so they can use it
What do you mean when you say a goal can be started early?
Any goal that you can normally do can be started early because you will have access to it and any goal that you can’t normally do you will have to wait until you get the goal to be able to complete it
The tip with this method is to put the sim doing that action early in a different house that you cannot go to until you get that goal or it will not work

Hi Hun,
I just got the latest update with balconies etc (finally!) and I noticed that the haunted house now cost simoloens, real bummer as for me its gonna cost over 580,000 😵.
Just thought I’d pop by and mention it in case you hadn’t noticed.
In the picture, it showed the house as in a spooky gray dismal area, but my neighbor has the house on an ocean view residence and it has a regular area. So if I build it on the island, is it going to have a creepy background or the normal one because I want the creepy one.
it should have a creepy background if the preview is anything to go by

When I press on the bookshelf 3 star or any it doesn’t come up with fine literature it comes up with fantasy trilogy wondering if you can help
Sounds like you are clicking on a preteen or teen bookcase not a normal bookcase, buy a normal bookcase from the living room section if you don’t already have one and you will get this option.
The DIY update happened while I was doing this quest, so maybe the update changed this: I had to pay 1.6 million simoleans for my Haunted Mansion, instead of LPs. Just FYI.

No, the free haunted house has one floor. Your friend must have added the extra floor.

I’m not sure why the ghost hunter quest isn’t in your queue, sorry, it should be! You may want to contact EA to see if they can fix this issue for you

Hi, I had the hobby before the “major update” from 2 halloweens ago. So is there a chance that I could get this house ? I love your blog by the way! It has helped me complete my goals in time and has been very helpful because I stopped playing for a 1 1/2 and came back.
At this moment no but sometimes they do make it possible to get limited prizes you weren’t able to unlock, I like you didn’t get the haunted house because when this first came out we had to complete the hobby, there was no quest but for the sims 3rd birthday everyone got one of the limited prizes they didn’t win and I got the haunted house so you never know! 🙂 Thanks, I’m glad it helps!

I just have one question – why are there two versions? I have a relatively old version right now, without even the camping park, and all my quests undergo the first version, which is a little annoying because I have to produce and use a lot of LPs to complete the quests on time. Hello! I’m a bit confused. I’m on this quest right now, it takes 4 days to complete it on time. If I complete it within the time limit, will I get the haunted house for free? Your post says the first is free, but someone in the comment said theirs weren’t free, and you said “like it says in the post, it isn’t free”. I don’t understand.
Please read the post for the most up to date information, that comment about it not being free was written a year ago when it wasn’t free.

Once you bring 4 sims to the park and get one to hold the conference in the park, can you send the other 3 home? Or do the have to stay there the whole time?

I completed the gosthunter quest a while ago, and I did not know that the first haunted house was supposed to be free partly because my first haunted house WASN’T free. I was wondering if you have any idea as to why this might be? Is it because of an update or because of the number of houses I already own? My game tells me it is 787.00 semolians…And I still haven’t built the first one. But my first ginger bread house was free, so I know it is possible. Help?
They have changed it so only in this recent update is it free so if you completed it before then it will cost you simoleons.
I really don’t like this quest, I know you can’t do anything but I would love an option to skip it!

Yea I did I did adulthood and then I got the senior quest I never got this one though
Do you have the ghost hunting hobby? If you have been playing the game for a long time you would not have completed this quest but you will still be able to do the ghost hunting hobby.
Yea I have the hobby and have had it for a while now but I wanted to get the hunted house with out having to make my own I’m still hoping I can get one next month
It is very unlikely that that Halloween update will unlock the Haunted House but every year for the sims freeplay birthday they give you one of the time limited prizes you didn’t manage to win, last year I got the haunted house because like you I didn’t get this quest when I first started playing.
On all the bookcases I have found it doesn’t have fine literature anymore!!! I remember when it did and I used it quite a bit for quests but this quest still tells me to read fine literature so I don’t think it’s an update. Instead of fine literature it says Read Epic Fantasy Trilogy or something like that. Has anyone else had this problem?
Are you looking at the right bookcase? I think the one with epic fantasy is the preteen or teen bookcase, not a normal one.
I am seeing the same thing as Thalia. Not sure if I should try the Epic Fantasy Trilogy or make sure I buy all the bookcases and check them. Even the bookcase needed for the quest doesn’t have the Fine Literature option.
Like I said before you are looking at the wrong bookcase if you are getting these options. Also make sure you are using an adult sim.
About how much extra time is provided, given that all the activities are completed back to back? Just wondering so I can plan my sleep schedule around it, haha

Hello. Just wondering after completing this quest and building the Haunted House does it cause lights in other houses to randomly blink? If so, is there a way to disable this? I don’t like it. I also don’t really like the house. If I demolish it will the random blinking stop? Thanks! I love your site!!
The haunted items in the house are what flash- why? I have no idea! If you remove all the haunted items (e.g the haunted paintings and bookcase you brought during the quest) then it won’t flash

This is not related to a quest but in a social task I’m asked to catch a ghost in a Neighbor’s town. How do I do this task? I’ve never noticed a ghost in a Neighbor’s town before. Thanks in advance.
Once your neighbour has done the ghost hunter quest they will be able to put the haunted items in their house, to do this goal you need to click on a haunted item in the house and select search for ghosts then once the time has passed you click on the bubble that appears above your sims head and then a ghost will appear, click on it three times to catch it. This is how the ghost hunting hobby works.

Hi I recently completed this quest and buil the house. There’s an odd box in the backyard that won’t let me do anything with like I click on it but it pops up with a red circle with a line through it. What does this box do?
The only box I can see in the garden of the haunted house is the dog kennel (if you look in the pet section of the home store it is called the K9 house)
Does the pool come with the house?
It does if you build it on a premium house plot.

I completed this quest and one of my houses randomly has the lights flash. This does not happen in any of my other houses, even my haunted house. I don’t have any haunted items in this house. Why is this happening?
There must be a ghost hunters hobby item in it somewhere for it to flash, the item will be red when the whole house flashes so you should be able to find it and store it if you don’t want it to flash
What causes the random lightning inside the house?
The ghost hunting objects, they flash.

Hi, also off topic and also find your blog helpful. My question is about the mall. I have built it and have now also built several stores. Unless I’m missing something it appears the stores are useless once built. Since I have to pay simoleans to build them I’m wondering what is the benefit? I am using the runway for the current pajama event and my toddlers use the upstairs play area but what good are the stores. Thanks!
That is true you cannot enter the stores but building them unlocked new clothing that you can then buy for your sims so it just allows you access to more stuff
Do the ghosts in front of the house ever go away?
There shouldn’t be ghosts unless you are doing the ghost hunting hobby and then they only stay for a minute. What do they look like?
They look like sims, one is a lady in white dress and the other is a man in a medieval costume. I will email the photos so u can see them

I have a question about this quest…I have completed this quest and go on to the senior quest. I decided not to start the ghost finding hobby, and I put all haunted items in storage. Howevers, flash and rain still occurs in each of my houses, workplaces, community centre, park, etc. It really hurts my eyes. I need to put the weather machine in each house and it costs me a lot.
Is there a way to stop the flash and rain?

This challenge timings are changed as of September 2018. Now ‘Read literature’ lasts for 12 hours and something else is different too which I forgot.
Fine literature is still 9 hours 30 minutes using a 3 star bookcase, if you have a cheaper lower star bookcase then it will take longer to complete this task.
Tip, reach level 8 for two sets of four sims, earn lots of simpletons and lifestyle points. Plus level 4 or 5 or six earns a life style pt per level gained and after you beat quest once, every time after you get five more lifestyle pts every time you catch all ghosts. Task takes 2 to 3 minutes for hunting and it goes by quick when you are level 8. It’s fun and u can earn simoleons too.
