Once you have built the Sorcerous Supplies store this discovery quest will begin. If you complete this quest in the time limit you will unlock the pet dragon! You can still complete this quest once the time limit is up to unlock the spell casting hobby but you won’t get the dragon prize
You cannot complete this quest at the same time as any other discovery quest
The price for building the sorcerous supplies store will vary depending on how many businesses you have already built
HOW LONG DOES THIS QUEST TAKE TO COMPLETE?
Times may vary depending on the star rating an item has
- Buy a crystal ball (S5,000) from Sorcerous supplies
- Place a crystal ball in a house (you will find it in the decorations section of your inventory once you have brought it)
- Look into the crystal ball- 30 seconds
- Gaze into the crystal ball- 30 seconds
- Pick up the magic wand- 2 seconds
- Unlock the door to the wand room: Randomly Rearrange- 2 hours 30 minutes
- Pick up the magic wand- 30 seconds (magic wand podium- pictured below)
- Use a crystal ball to go home- 1 second
- Act casual on a couch- 10 hours
- Place the magic wand podium in your house (from hobbies section of inventory, pictured below)
- Cast random spells- 13 hours 30 minutes (using magic wand podium)
- Talk to a sim about magic wands- 8 minutes (click on another sim)
- Use the magic wand (cast random spell on magic wand podium)- 13 hours 30 minutes
- Watch emergency broadcast- 2 hours 30 minutes
- Visit the park
- Call a sim to the park
- Formulate a plan- 6 hours 10 minutes (click on a mummy)
- Search for a mummy removal spell on the Internet- 13 hours 30 minutes
- Perform anti-mummies spell on a magic wand (podium)- 7 minutes
- Use the crystal ball to visit the wizards house- 1 second

You can now complete the Spell Casting Hobby (you need to buy a magic wand podium like the one in this quest from the sorcerous supplies store, you do not get to keep the one in the quest) The time limit for the hobby begins as soon as you complete this quest

Where do I find them? In the Pet store (if you haven’t built the pet store yet you can still get the dragons once it is built)

- There are two 1 star dragons- one costs 50,000, the other costs 25 SP
- There are two 2 star dragons- one costs 250,000, the other costs 25 LP
- There are two 3 star dragons- one costs 50 LP, the other costs 100 LP
Is the prize worth it? Yes it really is! It is unusual and cute, why wouldn’t you want one? Once you have brought a dragon it will appear at the house, near the mailbox as an egg:

Once it has hatched it will fly around the house, like dogs and cats it will find simoleons and LP:
A sim can interact with the dragon to increase the dragons happiness, they can praise or feed them:

How do I place the magic wand podium, I can’t find it!
It will be in the hobby and career items section of your inventory
Why do blue footprints appear when I try to use an item?
Blue footprints appear when your sim cannot access an item you want them to use, you need to either rotate the item or move an item that has been placed in front of it so they can use it.
How do I send my sim to the park?
Go to the park and click on the whistle next to a sim who isn’t busy on the simtracker, this post explains more about the simtracker
Everytime my sim gazes into the crystal ball it says ‘this place is too crowded’ why?
If you already have a sim at the wizards cottage you will get this message, use the simtracker to go to the sim who is already there instead of using the crystal ball
Can I do all the distract a mummy tasks at the same time?
No you can’t, you can only do them one at a time
How do I pack up the magic wand podium?
Click on it to pack up
The magic wand podium has disappeared once I’ve picked it up! How do I complete the hobby?
You will need to buy a magic wand podium from the sorcerous supplies store to complete the hobby

I have 3 days left and am currently finishing researching the mummy spells. I have started the weird wizard wands thing, and I think I can do it if I can pre-start the 3 mummy parts. Is that possible? Like have 3 of them do it at the same time, but at one-hour intervals to insure they don’t finish too soon?
No you can’t do that
If EA would see your blog and the responses you give to every comment, I think they’d be fools if they didn’t offer you a job 😛 I’ve used their customer service before (i.e. Firemonkeys) and they’ve never been particularly helpful and they always take several days to answer even basic yes or no questions, but your blog (and comments) always seem to have an answer to everything I’m looking for. I currently on book of spells quest. It is still on going. 2 days ago I demolish the house where the magic wand is in it. I thought the magic wand will be placed automatically in the inventory. It turned out the opposite. it was missing hence I cannot finish the mission. Is there any way to restore the magic wand?

No they stay the same as when they hatch

Hey.. does it still count if we do the next step a little bit earlier than the step before? For example one of my sims is currently doing the random cast spell which is 13hrs 30min.. 12hr later, I start another sims to watch the emergency broadcast whi ch will be the next step on the list.. im tryig to save time here! :’) please help!!!
You can only do tasks early which you can normally do so you wouldn’t be able to watch the emergency broadcast as that isn’t an option until you get that goal.
Can the babies help to complete a task? One of my quest asked me to make one of my sims hibernate. All my sims are busy.. and im wondering can the baby do it instead? Does it count?
No it is best to use an adult sim.

I know this is a really old quest, but i need help. I have been stuck on the same quest for a month now. (Because of school etc.) But something is not working. I am at: Place magic podium in your house. You said it should be in the hobby icon, but it isn’t there. I see The magic podium in the wizard’s house but i can’t click on it. It’s annoying because i’ve been trying to get answers on what to do but nothing is working. i am only on 27 percent progress. It’s not in any of the houses either (i checked). What should i do? This isnt working and i cant start any new quests because im stuck on this one. Thank you!
I think the problem is that you should have had a goal to pick up the one at the wizards house, if your game skipped over this then you won’t be able to complete the next goal, unfortunately the only way to fix this will be contacting EA as I can’t fix technical issues, sorry!

First off thank you for the detailed description of the quest … it helped me a lot. Unfortunately it also brought to light the infuriating reality that it’s now physically impossible for me to finish the quest within the time limit. You see, this quest shows up VERY early in the game and when it did, I didn’t have the 5k money to buy the crystal ball and had to waste 2 days getting the cash. Now it’s too late (those 13.5 hour mummies are ridiculous).
My OCD will not allow me to continue so I’m resetting my game but again thank you for this, at least I learned about this before wasting the next 5 days only to come up short. I just can’t believe such a demanding questline would show up so early in the game …
So once the spell casting hobby is completed are you no longer able to visit the wizard’s house?
I cast all 12 spells, got my dragon and my owl but my purple crystal ball seems useless now.

I was doing wonderfully on this quest until the “cast random spells”. I’ve got it set up, I’ve tried with every adult sim, I even gave one a cupcake so everything would be 100%. They’ll stand next to it, but when I try to get them to do the spells, they stamp a foot and shake their head. It’s keeping me from going on to other quests (plus I lost out on the dragon). Thank you.

I have not built the sorcerous supply store but the quest has begun. I don’t have the simoleans to build it. So I will not be able to complete it in time. It seems they try to force you to spend real money on this game. So I guess no pet dragon for me.

The same thing happened to me. I contacted EA. They gave me enough simoleans to build it and extra LP’s to skip some tasks.

The Book of Spells just started after I finished the Mall quest, although I haven’t built Sorcerous Supplies yet! Is this a glitch or a problem with the update? Anyone else experiencing this problem? With 2 days to build and at least 5 1/2 days for the longer quest items, there is no way to do this in the time limit.

This happened to me too. I had to use LPs to build the sorcerers supplies. Will have to use LPs to finish the quest at the end as I really want a dragon.

Are there no interactive things you can buy for the pet dragon? No toys, beds, food dishes? It’s a bit of a let down that they’re not very interactive other then a few seconds for praise and feed. Have I missed something maybe?

Hi, so I finished the quest on time – I was able to buy the podium in the store and my sim can practice spell casting and everything. But as soon as I finished the quest, it showed the owl thing and then when I pressed “not now”, it restarted the whole quest?? So now it says I only have a day (the continuation of the time limit from the quest before) to complete the whole quest again.. But i completed the quest..? I finished the quest on time & everything so I really dont know why it’s making me do the quest all over again… Please help? Help! Something went very wrong with my game. Since the last update the book of spells quest started for me suddenly even if i hadn’t finished building the sorcerous supplies. I used up a lot of LPs to finish it on time. However just as i finished it the quest started for me AGAIN. Now i’m stuck in the “take the magic wand” step because the podium is now missing from the sorcerer’s house! It is in my inventory. It seems to be a glitch that i cant find a way out of. Now i have no way of redoing the quest to unlock other quests like the deer falls.

I have this problem as well and I haven’t been able to contact EA either. For some reason my ea account is working. I’ll have to try messaging them on Facebook.
I have looked for the wizard for the “explain to a wizard” quest and I saw above that he should be at a house but I’ve checked throughout the day on every house and even the park and he’s no where.
Maybe try restarting your device and looking for him again?

I have read most of the comments about the “Book of Spells Quest” and it seems like I am having the same issue. 1st the quest started by itself before I built the sorcerers supply store. Then once I finally completed the quest it started over again. I contacted (Fire Monkeys) they sent me an automatic email stating a reply will take about 2 WEEKS! So my question is did I contact the right place and does the time frame sound right? Thank you by the way I love your blog, very helpful!

I didn’t complete the quest in time. After the 7 days it restarted the quest for me and now I can’t get my sims to pick up the magic wand. They say they can’t get to it. I have the magic spells hobby podium so I don’t know why they can’t walk to it. So now I’m stuck. I can’t finish this quest so I can’t get a new quest. What should I do?

I have the same exact problem. My sims even have mastered the spell casting hobby but still the book of spell quest is still on ‘pick up the magic wand’. I never got this quest. I’m kinda glad that I didn’t. I am currently just starting the multi story quest,and just finishing a dance to remember. Try restarting your device, he should be in the park
I have a wierd bug, I finished the quest and unlocked the spellcasting hobby, but for some reason the quest repeated itself and I cant finish it because I already completed it once. This is incredibly frustrating because I cannot get any more quests until this one if finished, even though I already did it! Have you heard of anyone else having this problem and any ideas to fix it? (Its impossible for me to just complete the quest again, I got stuck at “pick up the wand”) thanks!
Yes lots of people have had this problem, the only way to fix it is to contact EA to get them to sort it out for you
I had this problem. Contact EA (fire monkeys) and submit your request. In your request ask to be sent to a user content review specialist. Once I got sent to that department they fixed the problem easily. Also tell them if you have spent any LPs trying to finish other quests or the first book of spells quest. They will send you a new version of your save data and it might mess up any current quests you are on. Mine did but I was able to catch back up bc they replaced the LPs I had used.

Hi, after the latest update Sorcerous Supplies can only be built after the Nanny Knows Best quest is complete
no that is incorrect, you just can’t complete discovery quests at the same time, you can do them in what ever order you like (apart from the diy homes quests)
I’ve had the same issue as Anon – unfortunately I completed the Nanny quest and it told me to finish the next quest (horses). Once I finished that it changed to state I can’t build it until “A Dance to Remember” is completed. If the trend continues I think it will roll onto another limited time quest and the shop and quest will continue to be locked from my use. It’s a shame – I had a character all ready for it XD
