Once you complete the Basement of Kings Quest you can build a basement under your houses, this post explains how to add a basement and all the ways you can customise it!
NOTE: you will not be able to resize a basement or add more rooms until you have completed the quest
Building a basement
Building a basement is a lot like building a room except it is underneath your existing house. You can build the basement anywhere inside the grid area (unless there is a pool above) even if it is larger than the rooms above.
The second orange tab in the house section of the home store is basements. Hold and drag anywhere on the ground to build a basement. Green means the room can be built.
The white dotted lines show you were the rooms are above (the blue line is the outline of the pool):
Drag the white highlighted edged to resize.
What is the cheapest basement? A 2×1 basement will cost S8,000
Adding Stairs
You need to add stairs to the basement to be able to access it. The red areas as shown in the picture below show you were items are on the floor above so the stairs cannot be placed there:
If you want to place stairs somewhere you can’t, you have three options:
-
- Move items from the floor above so you have room
- Choose smaller stairs or an elevator that may fit
- Build another room in a clearer area (outside the house space so you can access the basement from outside)
Decorating the basement
You do this the same way you would decorate a new room
Deleting a Basement
While on the basement tab click on the basement room you wish to delete and select the red simoleon symbol to sell it. You can delete basement rooms even if there are rooms on the floor above.

Wait….is the basement expensive?
Depends how big you build it
Hi, I have reviewed so much b of your blog. Thank you for all of the work you put into it. I want to build a one story large home with an enormous basement then delete most of the home on the first floor and leave the basement. I want it to be like an underground home, but I would hate to waste money to try this. I’m wondering- if I delete the rooms on the first floor, will it delete the rooms in the basement? Will this work?
You’re welcome!
That would work but you don’t actually need to build a lot of rooms on the ground floor as you can just build the basement bigger than the size of the ground floor
How much is the initial cost of the basement? Is it similar to when you buy a new floor, so you have to buy the basement area before you build the rooms?
No you don’t, you just build a basement room and the cost depends on the size of the room you build.
Hi! Just letting you know that I love your blog, it’s very helpful and my boyfriend and I are really appreciative of all the work you put into it! Keep up the good work!
Thanks and I’m glad it helps!
Can you give me basement ideas?
This is a house tour of my original basement house design: https://youtu.be/QaEZJyfRCKg that might help!
Where do you find the quest?
The basement of kings quest? You need to find the woman wearing the hard hat in the park and complete the peaceful patios quest then the lovey dovey balcony quest, once you have completed both of those you will then be able to click on her again and start the basement of kings quest: https://thegirlwhogames.blog/2015/05/25/the-sims-freeplay-diy-homes-basement-of-kings-quest/
How much does it cost (per square of land) to build a basement?
The smallest basement you can build is 2×1 and that costs S8,000 so its S4,000 a square.
Thanks
I really want to delete this basement room but I can’t because it says “Whoa, hold on there. This room can’t be deleted because it’s its supporting an area upstairs! Try deleting the upstairs area first.” And I’m not going to delete that because the upstairs cost me millions of simoleons and some LP. Any way to fix this?
How strange! You will need to contact the makers to see if they can fix this issue for you as unfortunately I cannot fix technical issues, this post explains how to contact them if you are unsure: https://thegirlwhogames.blog/2016/05/29/the-sims-freeplay-contacting-ea-firemonkeys/
I had purchased an architect home that had a basement before I had completed the basement of kings quest. I scraped that home and built a new home and it’s my favorite in the game. I just completed the basement of kings quest so that I could change up the basement and then sum it it as an architect home, but when I try to delete it it shows the same “try deleting the upstairs area first” message as if I were deleting a room on the ground floor that was supporting a room on the second floor. The house I have built is three floors not including the basement and I really don’t want to delete all of it just so I can build a basement. Can you help?

I’ve seen things about underground pools which require you to have windows in your basement. How could I do this/ is it possible?
Underground pools? That isn’t possible in this game
