Yesterday a ‘what to expect from The Sims Mobile content releases‘ post was added to EA.com (read the post here)
If you are looking for good news about this game then you won’t find it at the above link, the second paragraph states: ‘Beginning on January 29, 2024, The Sims Mobile will no longer receive new events in our updates.’ Updates from the end of January will only include previous events but no new events will be added to the game.
What does this mean? Basically they have given up trying to improve this game and have just decided to put it into maintenance mode instead so the bare minimum needs to be done to keep the game running, it will still be online but nothing new will be added and it is likely that existing bugs will not be fixed.
It will probably be the case that it will eventually be closed so I would urge you not to spend anymore money on this game- it clearly hasn’t been the success EA were hoping for so spending money on it at this point would be pointless.
What do I think about this news? I am not surprised and have been expecting this for a while, there have been too many issues that have constantly been ignored.
Just to name a few:
- The list of bugs not being fixed has become worse each update with some long term players unable to get into the game!
- The lack of new features has been non existent- we got balconies and then nothing- we can’t even sell items to clear up storage space!
- The communication from the team has been poor, the game has changed hands so many times it is hard to know who to go to for answers or whether suggestions passed on have been seen by the right people.
I had taken a break from making Sims Mobile content since early 2023, not just because I felt that more effort was being put into the expensive paid packs than actual game events and that was something I did not want to promote but also I just found the game had become stale. Back in 2o21 I made a post called ‘Is it too late to Save The Sims Mobile?‘ in which I said “I only make an update post for the game now, I got so bored of making Wumples posts and even the new events aren’t exciting enough to warrant their own posts.” but by 2023 it just became difficult to talk about a game at all that I was no longer enjoying.
However as much as I was expecting it I am disappointed they couldn’t sort it out. Back in 2017 when we first heard about this game there was excitement and so much hope but it has never been able to fulfil its potential. I don’t know if how the game was first developed that has lead to all these problems but what is certain, time is definitely up for The Sims Mobile.
Please remember this is about The Sims Mobile NOT The Sims Freeplay, they are two different games and Freeplay is still active!
