The Sims Freeplay- Between the Lines: Tale of Knights Update

AD | Early Access to Beta Provided by EA/ Firemonkeys (Presented by EA Creator Network) may differ from actual version

Update available from 25th August 2:30am UTC

Firstly sorry I missed the last update, I was on my honeymoon! This is a fantasy regal themed update including a major (and arguably problematic) change called Season Passes, keep reading for more information.

SEASON PASS

Every update will now have a Season Pass, you may have seen these in other games, basically they are a complete money grab!

There are two passes, Free and Premium, everyone gets access to the free pass but you will need to spend real money if you want to unlock the Premium pass for a chance to earn those items.

Daily tasks have changed again to include tokens as prizes for completing them, these tokens are used to level up on the pass. There are 4 daily tasks for free pass players and 2 extra daily tasks for premium pass players. Daily tasks change every 24 hours.

There are also Season tasks which will be available for the duration of the season pass event or until you complete the task, these are usually longer tasks but you will earn more tokens for completing them.

There are 60 levels in total, each time you level up you will unlock a prize (for the premium pass, you unlock a prize at most levels on the free pass but not all of them)

What do I think?

The prizes in my opinion aren’t even that great, there are a lot of doubles- so the same item in a different colour. Is it worth $9.99? I don’t think so! But the problem is players will feel pressured into buying it every update for fear of missing out.

My main issue with the season pass is that everything else now seems to be an afterthought- the new craft challenge doesn’t even have names for the packed they are just ‘pack 1, pack 2a..’ and the prizes for all events are now mainly community market upgrade items, cupcakes or mystery keys which are useful but I would be more likely to complete an event if they contained some great build or create a sim items- even the items that are available are not interesting. All the good prizes are now behind a paywall and considering it is called the Sims FREEplay it really is not in the spirit of this game. At the moment I am sad that this game is nothing like it used to be, some changes have been needed but others make this game less enjoyable to play.

I would really love your opinions on Season Passes, whether you love or hate them let me know and I will pass your feedback on.

THE SIMS FREEPLAY

14 thoughts on “The Sims Freeplay- Between the Lines: Tale of Knights Update

  1. This new thing almost makes me want to stop playing a game that I have been playing since it was  first released!! And congratulations

  2. Best wishes! It’s great to have you back. I’ve been very disappointed in the prizes for quite a while and rarely use the community market. I’ve had the limit on cupcakes for ages and most of the mystery boxes you can buy with keys are pretty lame. Also I hate the capsule. It’s very boring. The spinning was way more fun. The Sim Chases times are impossible. InfIuence Island is repetitive and tiresome. I could probably rant for a lot longer. This game used to be a lot more fun.

  3. I just want to clarify, do you have to spend 9.99 every month for the premium pass or just once. I’m always looking forward every year for a new Christmas lot. If its every month I’m not going to waste my time.

  4. Congratulations on your marriage and honeymoon! I hope you had a wonderful time.

I completely agree with you about this update – I hate that they’ve introduced the season pass and I’m really upset with how lackluster all of the other events and prizes are. A lot of the prizes for the last update weren’t that great either, but I assumed that was because the next update was going to be a big one with great prizes. I was preparing for the worst when I found out they were introducing a season pass but I was hoping that it would be an additional optional event and we could still get good prizes from the other events. Unfortunately, it turns out that this time the only event they’ve put any effort into is the season pass.

I’ve tried playing mobile games that have introduced season passes before but I’ve always quickly given up on them because the season passes are accompanied by so many changes that prevent the game from being fun to play without spending a lot of money. I’ve always really appreciated that the Sims Freeplay was actually possible to play for free, and it is what has kept me playing the game for so long.

If future updates are like this one, I think I’m going to quit this game because it won’t be free to play in a way that’s enjoyable anymore. It makes me really sad because I’ve been playing for over 13 years, but I’m not willing to continue if they are going to abandon all of the fun aspects of the game in favour of what they think will make them the most money.

Thank you so much for your update posts! They’re always so informative, and I enjoy seeing your thoughts.

  5. yes, please tell them to cut it out with the keys that don’t get you anything unique. And let us have a chance at cool items without paying real money. I have bills. Also- the crafting event with the beach stuff- that stuff was so boring and trivial. Buoys and fishing poles?!? For all that time crafting?!? Booooo Sims.

  6. I’ve been playing this game almost since it launched and this latest change is enough to finally make me think it’s time to call it a day. I absolutely support the fact that the game needs to make money to survive, but this latest change does it at the expense of fairness & good gameplay and is undoubtedly entirely motivated by the fact EA needs to hit earn out targets as part of their sale. It’s beyond disappointing to see the game head down this road. Thank you for all the work you do to keep us updated ❤

  7. Hi!! I hope that you had enjoyed a lot of your honeymoon. ^^

Overall, I am happy for the old events because the medieval theme really doesn’t suit my taste (and the “On Regal Grounds” prizes are heinous). But I like the Sim Chase Victorian theme. And I LOVE art nouveau, so I’m really excited for the events with this theme. The woodworking event is a bit boring, so I don’t have anything to say about that. I wanted something less plain than what we received.

About the Influence Island events: I HATE that they insist on using cupcakes, mysterious box keys, and building materials as prizes. I didn’t like it in the Seaside Swoon update. And I am sad with this in the new update. Seems like they are lazy or have less staff to make real prizes, so they just put what they think is useful, like it’s a good idea (it’s not).

About the premium pass: Why, in the world, did they think we would like for something we had to pay in a game called “The Sims Freeplay”? With the only medieval house template in a medieval-themed update? That pass not only misses the whole point of the game but also is pretty unfair with the players (and I know they wanted to mock us with the peasant outfit in the free pass ¬_¬ )

About the new building mode: They finally put a search bar!! I’m excited to use it, and I hope it does not take long to release to everyone.

Anyway, thank you really, really much for the post. I always read them before anything, because they are complete and very informative. 😘❤

  8. While I appreciate the fact that the devs are experimenting with the layout and UI and updates, this game is no longer free. The fact that most of the rewards for all of the challenges are hobby spins (nobody uses), nails and tools (nobody cares), and vegetables (again, nobody cares) instead of taking the time to give us new furniture and CAS items shows laziness and hunger for money. Eventually people will not do the challenges, and won’t spend any money on the game, because what is the point? Not only that, the devs REFUSE to give us any 3 star furniture items anymore. It’s very rare that a furniture item that people are spending time, simoleons and life points on is worth it, because it’s always a 1 or 2 star item. I’ve been playing for over a decade and remember when only 3 star items cost life points, now we’re spending them for basic items. It’s just sad all around because i love this game and its potential, and everybody has put so much time into creating their stories in this game.

rant over, sorry for long comment.

  9. Congratulations again on getting married, hope you had a fantastic honeymoon and many happy married years ahead.

I have not been impressed with all the updates for awhile, getting the garden center, having to earn hammers and such, the daily tasks I don’t even do, half the time I forget to open the egg for free money, there is no place to build all the house templates, upgrading buildings we don’t even visit, etc. I probably won’t do this new thing either, definitely won’t spend actual money.

  10. To be completely honest the way Sims Freeplay has changed has made me stop playing the game entirely. It is a huge grind with very little payoff. Prizes are lackluster and sometimes very close to prior prizes. But the component of trying to charge a premium price for a game that is supposed to be free? That is my very last straw. It is not what it used to be and unfortunately it’s not very entertaining anymore.

  11. Yes, it seems like a money grab! And overwhelming! Not purchasing – and not playing!

Thank you for your insights and congratulations on your marriage!

    Smiles!
    Donna

  12. I hate the season pass too. I would suggest that they at least offer some of the prizes from premium pass as part of the events , events are also a lot of work…. Like for example instead of a cupcake, and if you get it first in an event, then you get some alternative prize , like life points or whatever… You can clearly see they reduced the prizes in the events to the minimum …. I wonder how long until players will just stop doing events. I was doing craft challenges only for the house templates. Influence island I do it for fun, it’s not so difficult… But I expect I won’t feel motivated to do any other events anymore. I assume also the will reduce soon the prize, but the first few rounds will have the full price. Or when the season gets to the end they will discount it.

  13. Congrats on getting married! I know I’m a bit late responding but I wanted to give it a chance. I HATE this new update. The season pass is stupid and just like every other game now and the new build mode is a JOKE!!! The only thing I like about the new build mode is the search bar, but everything else makes it so much harder to decorate. I loved that the last item put into inventory was the first listed. They’ve taken that away which to me makes decorating for holidays and redecorating in general much more complicated. The build mode is what I have the most problems with but I agree with everyone else on here that sims FREEplay is no longer free! I’m considering quitting the game after over a decade of playing.
