In this post I am going to explain how to easily make 10,000 simoleons in less than 2 hours! I was using 10 sims to do this so if you are using less sims it will take you longer to reach 10,000 but if you are using more sims it will take you less time!
Firstly make sure your sims are inspired (sparkling) to do this you need to fill up their bars by fulfilling all their needs, once they are inspired they will sparkle and earn more money when baking and gardening which is really important for this:
We are going to continuously grow carrots using 10 sims every 5 minutes. As you can see in the image above sims will earn S48 growing carrots when inspired compared to S32 normally (which including the S3 cost for growing them leaves your sims with S45 each time rather than S29)
This table shows exactly how much money I made from this method in just over an hour:

I used this method while trying to complete the Multi Story Renovations Quest in the time limit, I only had S140,000 and I needed S150,000 to build the community center and after 1 hour 15 minutes I had enough money!
This is really easy to do when watching TV in the evening, you can put your sims onto grow carrots and then set a timer on your device for 5 minutes so you remember to go back onto the game regularly
Other money making tips:
Remember to upgrade your island monuments, you randomly get simoleon bonuses when gardening, baking and working when you upgrade The Riches of Terra
Lettuce is no longer as risky to grow as it used to be, it still may turn into a sim eating plant but you can usually now watch an advert to still get a reward rather than negotiating with it (it isn’t the full amount but I got S310 and 120XP each time I did this) this doesn’t work every time though (thanks Catharina for this tip!)
Buying items in the sims freeplay is an important part of the game so read this post if you are unsure on how to do it! This post also covers selling and storing unwanted items.
Home Store
The home store is where you buy, sell and store items in the sims freeplay.
Opening the home store– click on the furniture button on the panel shown in the picture below. It will look different depending on what device you are playing on:
When opened, the home store itself will also look different depending on what device you are playing on.
If you are playing on a larger device the home store will appear as a bar across the bottom of your screen with different sections for furniture, house (building rooms, decorating, etc) outdoors and inventory with tabs for different categories in each section.
For example in Furniture you will find the tab for Living Room, clicking on this will show you all the living room items:
If you are playing on a smaller device the home store will appear in a box filling half the screen, there are no individual sections for furniture, house and outdoors on this one, the tabs for different categories are all in this box.
For example the tab for Living Room can be found when you open the home store, clicking on this will show you all the living room items:
However, there is still a section for inventory which still contains all the tabs for the different categories of the items you have stored:
Buying
To buy an item, open the home store, select the item you would like to buy, find a space on the house lot to place it (it will flash red and the green tick will be greyed out if you cannot place the item), click on the green tick to buy it.
NOTE: some items can only be placed inside or outside
The picture below shows how it looks when you cannot place an item:
Sometimes you will get a goal in a quest that requires you to buy something, for example in the DIY HOMES: Peaceful Patios Quest one of the goals is to buy S5,000 worth of outdoor decorations. So to complete this:
On a Larger Device:
Open the home store
Click on the Outdoors section on the right of the bar
Scroll across the bar until you find the Outdoor Decorations tab, click on this
Scroll across the bar to find an item you would like to buy (remember you can buy one item that costs S5,000 or a selection of items that add up to S5,000) I am going to buy Black Double Garden Screen that costs S3,000 and the Black Single Garden Screen that costs S2,000)
Click on the item, find a space on the house lot to place it and click on the green tick to buy (it will flash red and the green tick will be greyed out if you cannot place the item)
On a Smaller Device:
Open the home store
Scroll across until you find the Outdoor Decorations tab, click on this
Scroll across to find an item you would like to buy (remember you can buy one item that costs S5,000 or a selection of items that add up to S5,000) I am going to buy the Bamboo Lamp as this costs S5,000
Click on the item, find a space on the house lot to place it and click on the green tick to buy (it will flash red and the green tick will be greyed out if you cannot place the item)
Selling
To sell an item you need to open the home store, then click on the item in the house you want to sell. A price will appear next to the red simoleon symbol, this is how much you earn when you sell the item. Click on the red simoleon symbol then a pop up will appear asking if you want to sell the item, click yes if you do.
If you want to sell items that are in your inventory you need to click on the item in the inventory like you are placing it in your house to get the option to sell it
Storing
You can store items in your inventory that you no longer want in your house, this is really helpful if you want to use the item later (I wouldn’t recommend selling everything you don’t want to use right now!)
You can also use it to move items to a different house:
I am going to show you how I moved the preteen bookcase but it will work for any item you can store!
Press the home store button
Click on the bookcase, click the inventory button, the bookcase will then be removed from the house
Go to the house you want to place it in and click the home store button again
Find the inventory section
Then the tab where the item will be found (preteen bookcase will be in preteen tab)
Click on the bookcase and position where you want it in the new house, click the green tick to place it
Follow steps 1 and 2 if you just want to place an item in your inventory.
There are a lot of symbols in the sims freeplay and you may be unsure what some of them mean, if so give this post a read!
PLAYER GAME INFORMATION BAR
This can be found at the top of the screen, there is no longer a clock but just remember that the time in the game is the time it currently is for you (if it is 8pm for you then it is 8pm on the game)
On the bar you can find your:
-CURRENT LEVEL AND EXPERIENCE POINTS (XP)
The circle around your level shows your XPs, when the blue line fills the circle you will level up.
-VIP LEVEL
When you purchase items from the online store for real money you earn VIP points, the more points the higher level you are, unlocking you more perks.
-SIMOLEONS
Simoleons are the main currency in the game. Click on the + to buy more for real money.
-LP- LIFESTYLE POINTS
Another currency used in the game, more expensive/ premium items cost LPs, Click on the + to buy more for real money.
-SP- SOCIAL POINTS

Click on the last symbol to open up your simtown information, this includes your towns sim count (level up to increase this) and your town value (building places and buying items increases this)
Town Value- you can see how much a building will increase your town value by looking for the town value symbol (1), building will then increase the town value shown on your simtown information screen (2)
SIMTRACKER Your simtracker will look different depending on the device you are playing on, on a larger device it will be a pop up tab on the sims needs bar (1) and on a smaller device it will be in a folder on the side of your screen (2)
On the simtracker you can see the tasks your sims are currently doing (3) and if they have completed that action their face will flash with an XP symbol (4)
The simtracker is also used to send sims to work (click on the pulsing suitcase(5), bring a sim to the location you are currently at (using the whistle(6) and sending a sim home (click on the house with the arrow inside it button(7)
SIM INFO PANEL Your sim info panel will look different depending on the device you are playing on, on a larger device it will be a pop up tab at the bottom of the screen (1) and on a smaller device it will be in a folder on the side of your screen (2) with the simtracker.
(3)Careers and Education- this is where you can give your sims a job, enrol them at school, send them to work or school or quit their job.
(4)Hobbies- here you can see all your sims hobbies and what level they are currently on in that hobby, click on the picture of the hobby to open up the hobby collection so you can see how many pieces they still need to collect before you will earn a reward:
(5)Relationships- relationships for the sim you are currently playing as.
(6)Life Dreams- complete the life dreams and legacies quest to get this tab. You will then be able to give your sims a life dream from here or see how far they have progressed with a life dream so far:
(7)Age Control- complete the life dreams and legacies quest to get this tab. This tab allows you to advance, reverse or pause a sims age. Read this post for more information
AGEING
Around their face on the simtracker there is a circle, the more actions they complete the more the green line will spread clockwise around the circle, when it reaches red you know that your sim will age soon
BABY BONUS
Complete Pregnancy Events in the time limit to earn the baby bonus, you will see this as a gold ring around your sim on the simtracker. Sims with the baby bonus will earn more experience points when they complete actions, complete actions faster, are not affected by low motives (low needs) and they will have these bonuses for life!
NEEDS
Sims have 6 needs, if there needs are unfulfilled they become sad and will complete actions slower, which is why it is important to know what the needs are and how to fulfil them.
The top picture is the needs for that sim and below that is a picture of an item that fulfils each of those needs, you can tell if it will fulfil a certain need because underneath the price of the object the same symbol you can see in the simtracker is shown here.
Hunger
Bladder
Energy
Hygiene
Social
Fun
when you click on an object in the game the symbol appears again to tell you which need it will fulfil
INSPIRED
Next to your sims needs there is a sparkling person symbol (1) if you click on this you will get two options, cupcake (2) or rainbow cake (3) Both of these options are used to completely inspire that sim (fulfil their needs)
Sims who are inspired complete their actions faster!
The cupcake costs 5LP to use while the rainbow cake can only be used if you have purchased items with real money to unlock the VIP Perk for rainbow cakes, this post explains VIP Perks in more detail
Inspired sims will have a green background on their simtracker picture and will complete actions quicker
Normal sims will have a white background on their simtracker picture and will complete actions at normal speed
Sad sims will have a red background on their simtracker picture and will complete actions at a slower speed
ACTIVE TASKS
Click on active tasks to see which quest or event you are currently partaking in (and the time you have left to complete it) You can also see your weekly tasks and social tasks here, on these there is an orange skip symbol, you can use this to skip a task but this will cost you 10LPs.
If you have main quests left to complete you will also see them here, next to the main quest task you are currently on it will say ‘quests waiting in queue’. They will only appear in the queue once you are on the level for the quest to unlock, so I am currently on level 13 and still on the money grows on trees quest so I have 8 quests in my queue waiting to be completed.
These quests need to be completed in order and the next one will start as soon as the previous quest is completed.
FREE SIMOLEONS, SOCIAL POINTS AND LIFESTYLE POINTS BUTTON
On the active tasks screen you will see the FREE button in the corner, click on this to get a reward for watching a short video:
ACTION OPTIONS
When your sim is completing an action you can click on them and the bar above will appear, in the middle it tells you what task you are doing, how many XPs you will receive when complete and the time the task will take. If you just want to look at the time left you can click on your sim to view this then click the green button on the right hand side to close the pop up. But if you don’t want your sim completing that task anymore you can click on the red cross to cancel the task (you will not earn the XPs when you cancel)
If you want your sim to finish the action quickly without cancelling (great for completing quests in time limits) you can click on the orange LP button, next to the button it tells you how many LPs it will cost you but it is one LP for every hour so any time up to 1 hour 59 minutes will cost you 1LP. It is one extra LP for every full hour so if a task has 4 hours 20 minutes left it will cost you 4LPs to speed up or if a task had 23 hours 59minutes 59 seconds left it would cost you 23LPs.
BLUE FOOTPRINTS
These appear in a speech bubble above your sims head:
They appear when you are trying to do an action that isn’t accessible to your sim, this could mean that the item they want to use is blocked, rotate an item and try selecting the option again.
RED CROSS
These appear in a speech bubble above your sims head:
They appear when you are trying to do an action that your sim cannot do, for example a toddler cannot use a shower so if you were playing as the toddler and you clicked on the shower this red cross will appear.
DAILY REWARD
The daily reward is delivered to a mailbox at the front of your sims house once a day, this is based on your town value so the higher your town value the more simoleons you will earn (although there is a cap on this at around S7,000 so you cannot receive more than that unless you started playing before the cap was added)
CAMERA
This is used to take pictures of the gameplay without all the information that usually appears on your screen:
ZOOM IN/OUT
Clicking on these will zoom you right in or right out of the gameplay, you can zoom with your fingers if you just want to zoom in or out slightly.
FLOOR LEVEL BUTTONS
Down the side of your screen you will see a button similar to one of these above, the floor you are currently on will change what the button says:
B= Basement
1= Ground floor
2= Second floor
Click on the up or down arrows to move up or down a floor
Remember you need to complete the Multi Story Renovations Quest before you can add extra floors to your houses
ADD HOUSE
Click on this to choose a house from the list, pick the empty lot if you want to build your own house. If this is greyed out you will need to finish constructing another building first as you cannot build two places at once or if you have no other places building you will need to level up before you can add a house as you are at your house limit for the current level.
EMPTY HOUSE
This symbol shows you that a house is empty so you can add a new sim, if the add a new sim option is greyed out you are currently adding a baby to your town or you are at your sim limit for that level, level up to be able to add another sim.
WHO IS IN A HOUSE CURRENTLY?
On the town map you can see how many sims and pets are currently in a house, the person symbol shows the number of sims and the paws symbol shows the number of pets (you can only have two pets brought from the pet store living in each house)
HOUSE/ BUILDING REVENUE
This is money and XPs you receive when you build places in simtown, some places will only earn you simoleons (2) or XPs (3) but some places earn you both (4) To collect the revenue click on the buttons with these symbols above the building. The more expensive the place was to build the more simoleons you will receive. If there isn’t a simoleon or XP symbol there will be a time instead, come back after that time to collect the revenue:
HOME STORE SELECTION OPTIONS
While you are in the home store mode you will be able to click on items in the house and several options will appear. The rucksack button (1) is your inventory, click on this to store the item in the inventory section of the home store, you can use your inventory to move items from one house to another, you will not have to buy the item again, it will be free from your inventory. The tick (2) places the item, it will be greyed out if you cannot place the item because there is something in the way.
The red simoleon button (3) is what you press if you want to sell the item, the amount of simoleons you will receive for selling the item is shown next to the button, this will be less than what you paid for the item. The 4 arrows button (4) allows you to move the item, but you can just click on the item itself to move it. Finally the curved arrow (5) allows you to rotate the item, some items do not have this button as they cannot be rotated, such as doors.
If you are buying an item you will only have 4 buttons as you cannot store it in your inventory before you have brought it and the tick button will show the price it will cost you to buy the item next to the button.
OVEN FIRES
Whenever you bake something on the stove that has the red fire triangle symbol it means that it could cause a fire, if it does start a fire you will not earn the simoleons or XPs you would have got if it didn’t burn and you will need to extinguish the fire before you can bake on that stove again.
SIM EATING PLANT
Some seeds you can plant on the garden patch have a green monster triangle symbol on them, this means that they could turn into a sim eating plant instead of the plant. If this happens you will not earn the simoleons or XPs you would have got if it didn’t turn into a sim eating plant and you will have to negotiate with it for 3 minutes before you can use the patch again.
MONUMENTS AND RESOURCES
Once you complete the Mysterious Island Quest you unlock 4 monuments on the Island:
1.The Riches of Terra- Resources needed are Pickaxe, Gold, Granite
2.The Flames of Wisdom- Resources needed are Igneous Rock, Bronze, Magma Embers
3.The Tempest of Bliss- Resources needed are Onyx, Bamboo, Essence of Wind
4.The Springs of Fortune- Resources needed are Limestone, Chisel, Pearl
You will find these items randomly when you complete actions, the symbol of the resource you have found will appear above your sims head who found it:
Once you complete the Ghost Hunters quest you will unlock haunted items, once placed in your house you use these items to search for ghosts to be able to complete the Ghost Hunting hobby. In the home store there will be a picture of a red ghost on any item that is haunted. NOTE: these items will flash every so often after being placed in your houses which can be an issue for some players so please bare that in mind.
SETTINGS AT BOTTOM OF SCREEN
Depending on the device you play on this will look different for you:
While at a sims house you will see 5 options on the bottom of your screen:
-PARTY BOAT
The world symbol is the party boat. When you have neighbours you can visit the party boat once a day to collect money rewards, the more neighbours you have the more rewards you will get. A present symbol will appear when you can collect the rewards.
You can also visit the party boat on the town map.
-HOME STORE (BUY MODE)
The chair with the lamp symbol is the home store. This is where you customise the house you are currently in, you can do things such as redecorate, buy new items and add swimming pools, patios and even balconies! (once you complete the quests that unlock these)
-TOWN MAP
The building symbol is the town map. Click on this to take you to the town map, once you unlock the mysterious island you will have two buttons appear when you click on the first button:
You can also visit the mysterious island by clicking on the bridge on the town map.
-ONLINE STORE
The 3 dots will take you to the settings menu:
Resume Game- click this to get back to gameplay.
Options- here you can change the volume of the sound effects and music as well as changing the language. You can also choose if you want to receive notifications from the game.
You can reset your game from here too, if you do this you will delete your whole game.
Info- this tab includes information such as terms of service, end user license agreement as well as help information.
If you restart your game you can restore purchases you made on your device previously on this tab.
Support- clicking on support will take you to the firemonkeys support page.
The Cloud- this is very important as this is where you save your game! You should be doing this at least once a day so you do not lose your game if your device ever crashed or broke. Read this post for more information about the cloud
Account Manager- this is where you sign into your accounts such as Facebook or Game Center to allow you to save your game with the Cloud as mentioned above.
You will not see furniture or town map buttons when you are on the town map
If you find any other symbols in the game you are unsure about please let me know and I will add them to this post
Each time you open the sims freeplay the game takes a few seconds to load, during that time you get some on screen tips about the game and this post is just going to explain in detail what each of them mean.
Keep sims needs satisfied to make them inspired
Each sim has 6 needs that have to be fulfilled (the bar needs to be fully green)
Hunger- fridge/ plate of food
Bladder- toilet
Energy- bed/ coffee machine
Hygiene- sink/shower/bath
Social- phone/interaction with a sim or pet
Fun- several things such as watch TV, check emails (but for adults and seniors I plant bell peppers)
When a sim hasn’t had their needs satisfied for a while they will be very grumpy, housebound and won’t go to work
To inspire a sim you need to fulfil at least 4 needs fully and for the other 2 most of the bar will need to be full.
You can tell when they are inspired because the cupcake will be greyed out and your sim will sparkle.
Use cupcakes to instantly make sims inspired
Next to your sims needs bars there is a symbol of a green cupcake, to inspire a sim straight away (without having to fulfil their needs) you can click on the cupcake and spend 5LPs to instantly inspire that sim. The cupcake will be greyed out when they are inspired.
Inspired sims earn more XP and simoleons for completing actions
This is especially helpful to know when baking and gardening, you will earn more simoleons and XPs when your sim is inspired! So I usually grow beans at night after inspiring all my sims as they will earn S1260 and 928XPs instead of S840 and 620XPs.
They will also get more XPs when completing any action, such as having a catnap they will get 99XPs when inspired instead of just 66XPs.
Use higher star rated objects to complete actions faster
All items have star ratings, the higher the star rating the quicker you will complete a task. Some are only a few seconds quicker while others are several hours quicker:
Sims earn more XP and simoleons for actions completed at their own house
I think this is a good tip for earning more XPs that not enough people know, make sure they do actions at their own houses, as you can see from the picture below for longer actions it can really make a difference:
Use lifestyle points to instantly finish actions
Low on simoleons? Use lifestyle points to instantly finish gardening
To do this, click on the sim you want to speed up, it will show you what action they are doing and how many LPs it will cost to speed it up (in the case shown below it is 8). Just click on the USE LPs symbol and the action will be complete.
TIP: The amount of LPs it will cost depends on how many hours are left so as you can see above it is 8LPs because it will take 8 hours 59 minutes. If you have a task that takes 2 hours 30 minutes I would always wait half an hour until the time left gets to 1 hour 59 minutes so it will only cost you 1LP instead of 2.
Use lifestyle points to instantly finish construction of houses, workplaces or businesses
Same goes for speeding up constructions, just click on the place you want to finish building and click the USE LPs symbol.
Complete tasks to earn lifestyle points
Certain weekly tasks once completed reward you with LPs but you can also get 3LPs for completing 75% of your weekly tasks, this post explains that in detail
Cats are great at finding simoleons and lifestyle points
Once you have brought a cat from the pet store it will wander around the house and then an exclamation mark bubble will appear above its head, click on that, it will pounce and find simoleons or LPs.
Dogs can dig up simoleons and lifestyle points
Once you have brought a dog from the pet store it will wander around the garden and then a shovel bubble will appear above its head, click on that, it will dig and find simoleons or LPs.
The more expensive the cat or dog, the more treasure they will find
This one is not always guaranteed but the higher the star rating (price) the more simoleons and LPs they should find.
3 star dogs are definitely more likely to find LPs than 1 star dogs.
Skill up in hobbies and careers to increase your chance of winning at the competition center
The higher level you are in a career or hobby the more chance you have of winning first prize at the competition center, I will explain how it works for those who have never used the competition center before:
When you click on the competition center (as shown in the picture below) it will appear with a competition (I had the archery hobby) it tells you how much you will get for each placing:
1st place- 3LPs
2nd place- 1LP
3rd place- S1000 and 1000XPs
4th place- S500 and 500XPs
Then you can select a sim- always go for the sim with the highest level in that hobby/career (it will tell you what level your sims are at)
For example: Zack is level 6 in archery so I would definitely use him over Hayley who has never done archery before (level 0/6)
NOTE: your sim must not be busy for them to partake in a competition, they will appear greyed out if they are busy.
Once you have selected your sim they will be busy competing for 24 hours, once the time is up you will need to go back to the competition center to see where they were placed.
If your sim is level 6 then they should come first but they don’t always!
I rarely use the competition center if I am being completely honest, its a good way to make a few extra LPs but it does mean your sim cannot do anything else for a whole day.
Purchase lights from the home store to illuminate houses at night
You can either set lights to be off, on or auto lights, that turn on when a sim enters the room but turns off when they go to sleep or leave the room.
Use your inventory to move furniture between houses
If you have an item you want to move to a different house, you can easily do it by using your inventory, I am going to show you how I moved the preteen bookcase but it will work for any item you can store!
Press the buy mode button (furniture symbol)
Click on the bookcase, click the grey rucksack (inventory) button, the bookcase will then be removed from the house
Go to the house you want to place it in and click the buy mode button again
Find the inventory section
Then the tab where the item will be found (preteen bookcase will be in preteen section)
Click on the bookcase and position where you want it in the new house, click the green tick to place it
No time to sleep? Buy a coffee machine
A coffee machine is a quicker way to increase your sims energy need than having a nap. Coffee machines can be found in the kitchen section of buy mode.
Earn big XP bonuses for reaching relationship milestones
Reaching a new relationship stage between two sims earns you extra XPs, this is what adults who become friends will receive:
Becoming Acquaintance- 100XPs
Becoming Friends- 150XPs
Becoming Good Friends- 200XPs
Becoming Best Friends- 300XPs
If you would like to know what other relationship bonuses are, they can be found in the relationships post
Earn pocket money by sending preteen sims to school
On the careers tab (where you give your sims jobs and send them to work) you will see for preteens it says ‘not enrolled’
Click the mortar board (academic cap) symbol
The sim town elementary enrolment pop up will appear, click enrol
On the careers tab it will now show your sims grade at school and the mortar board symbol will pulse when you can send them to school.
As their grade increases they will earn more pocket money
Unlock special content by improving your preteen sims grade at school
The first time you send a preteen sim to school they will unlock items every time they improve their grade
NOTE: They start at level 3: C (I don’t know why they don’t start at level 1!)
Level 4: C+ 2+2 is 4 poster
Level 5: B Planets poster
Level 6: B+ Science project
Level 7: A Einstim poster
Level 8: A+ Model UFO
Level 9: A++ School Certificate
Level 10: A+++ Spelling Bee Trophy

If you run out of time on a quest or hobby you can use a time extension once unlocked from VIP 3 to add more time (each time extension adds 24 hours to a quest or hobby) NOTE: you can only use each time extension once and they don’t replenish so choose wisely!
VIP players get Rainbow Cake Slices that keep Sims inspired for 24 hours
Rainbow cake keeps a sim inspired (their needs won’t decrease) for 24 hours (this is explained in more detail in the VIP perks post mentioned previously in this post)
Exclusive CAS (create a sim) items are available for VIP players

Want more Sims in your Sim families and Sim Town? Become a VIP to unlock those Perks
From VIP Level 5 you can have an additional sim living in each house (5 instead of 4) and from level 10 you can have an additional sim per town no longer restricting you to the 34 sims limit
Complete the Extreme Home Takeover quest to get the Architect feature: Go to work at the Real Estate Agency, then tap the sign next to the mailbox!
Once you complete the Extreme Home Takeover quest you can send a sim to work as a real estate agent a sign will appear at the front of your houses:
Click on the sign to submit your house for a chance for all other players to be able to build it! You will find chosen houses in the architect tab when you click to build a new house. This post explains submitting a house in more detail
I hope that clears a few things up and will help you make the most out of the game!
The quest queue is very helpful if you want to see what quests are coming up in the game, they will only appear in the queue once you are on the level for the quest to unlock, so Need for Steed will only appear in the queue once you are on level 11+
NOTE: You still have to complete the quests in the order they appear in the queue so you can’t choose which quest to do next
Where is the quest queue?
Click on your goal tab (active tasks button)
Underneath the quest goal you will see a number in a green box, that number is how many quests are in your queue
Click on it to see more details on the upcoming quests
This will show you how many quests you have before you can do the one you really want to do, remember all quests have to be completed in order and you can’t skip a quest.
