The Sims Freeplay- Hobbies: Karate

COMMUNITY CENTER – PRETEEN SIMS ONLY

Once you complete the Multi Story Renovations Quest your preteen sims will be able to practice karate at the community center, this is different from other hobbies as you do not earn prizes for completing a collection as there isn’t a collection!

You complete this hobby by clicking on the sparring dummy or wooden karate board on the left hand side of the downstairs of the community center, the options are:

Sparring Dummy:

  • One Punch- 10 minutes
  • Quick Duel- 1 hour
  • Karate Practice- 6 hours
  • Lengthy Battle- 12 hours

Wooden Karate Board:

  • Karate Chop!- 1 minute 30 seconds
  • Extended Session- 20 minutes

Or you can buy the sparring dummy from the preteen section of the home store for 10LP

After the time has passed come back and they will have completed the action, an exclamation mark doesn’t above your sims head in this hobby and they will not find a collectible, you will just earn rewards each time your preteen sims level up in this hobby, once you reach 100% you will level up, there are 6 levels.

The table below shows the level up percentage for each option:

This may change in future updates

Sparring Dummy:

 LEVEL  10 minutes 1 hour 6 hour 12 hour

2-3 7% 52%
3-4 5% 35%

The next table shows you the level up rewards for the first and future sims will receive when they level up in this hobby:

  • Reaching Level 3 unlocks Lamp
  • Reaching Level 4 unlocks Wallpaper and Door
  • Reaching Level 5 unlocks Award
  • Reaching Level 6 unlocks Figurine

Why does this hobby not show up with a collection in the hobby tab?

This and Ballet do not show up because you don’t unlock a collectible each time you complete the hobby, you only get the rewards shown above when you level up for the first time and the town value reward for further times you level up. You will receive no other rewards.

  1. So, one of my preteens has reached black belt! Does that mean I can’t do any more with the hobby? The hobby symbol is grayed out and I can’t see it in the listings, so I wonder if that means I should just find something else for my preteens to do?

  2. I think karate (as well as ballet) has been removed since the September pet park update.
I only can see diving and figure skating at the list of hobbies for preteens…

    • No they haven’t been removed as hobbies they are just no longer on the hobby collections screen as they aren’t like other hobbies as you don’t find an item each time you do ballet or karate 🙂

  3. I have a feeling that pretty much after you complete the karate and the ballet hobbies and have your preteen at the highest grade there is really nothing else that you need to do on preteen ever again

    • What options are you doing? If you haven’t already tried the longest one try that. Or you could put them both on diving and back on karate, you will have to do the first level again but it might move on to the next level that time

  4. I have reached level three, but the only thing I have unlocked is the lamp. What else was I supposed to have unlocked?

  5. I don’t have the Competition Center open and am not sure I’m going to. I wish the Karate Hobby earned LPs as at least it is interesting and fun to watch. Diving and Figure Skating are boring after you’ve watched a couple of times, even at level 6. I had my Preteen girl doing Figure Skating, along with a Teen and a couple of Adults, but now I have no one doing Skating as it’s only 3 LPs and boring. I have my Preteen girl doing Karate right now, even though it doesn’t earn anything, because I like to see her advance and beat up on the dummy 😉 I may rethink opening the Comp Ctr just for her.

    • I don’t sit and watch them completing hobbies but I think watching any of them would become boring very quickly 😛
The competition center is okay, I don’t really use it that much because your sim has to be in there for a whole day but it is worthwhile if you are struggling for LPs

  6. i have my preteen boy in black belt, but when a do so he can be a teenager is the black belt so gone??

  7. I have completed karate hobby to level 6 but didn’t got any notification of unlocking of any item ( as listed above) , could u tell how to check what items I unlocked and where can i get those items?

  8. I have a preteen who is top level of this hobby. If I age her up into a teen, will she instantly loose her skill or will she keep it until she gets a new hobby?

  9. I have 3 preteens(2 girls and 1 boy), two completed the karate and ballet hobby so now all three are diving one at Lv 5 the other two Lv 4 and I find that doing the longest time at 12hours level the, up faster since the diving hobby has 12 items and I have two left.

I am planning on aging one to a teen(probably the first female child I had) and should I add one baby for each person I age?? I don’t really know how most people play but I try to have an even number of male and female whether he or she is a baby or adult..it just makes it easy to find them
a husband or wife.. and not quite sure what to do when they are teens.

I had a question if a father had one child with one wife, and divorced her and remarried but had two kids with another would it still count as three children? Since they are living seperate but the other child can ‘visit’..that would be very weird but I haven’t tried it.

    • If you added a sim for each one you aged you would reach your sim count fairly quickly! But again its really up to you, you ask me a lot of questions that there isn’t really a correct answer for, its just what you decide and your opinion is probably very different from mine so if you want to add a sim when you age one then you should!

No it wouldn’t because the limit is 2 children in the same house so you would be able to add 2 to the new house and the other child can visit

  10. I’m not sure if you have updated this or if anyone else has pointed it out, but since it isn’t a hobby collection there isn’t an exclamation point above their head. They simply finish the task like anything else while still progressing in the hobby bar. I have one preteen doing the karate hobby now and that’s at least how it is for my game.

  11. I have 2 preteens and i would not see karate and ballet hobbies. I already have Community center. How to fix it? I believe i miss 1 of mission!!

    • There isn’t a quest for these hobbies, just click on the record player with a preteen to start the ballet hobby and the karate board with a preteen to start the karate hobby.
