The Sims Freeplay- Downtown Developer Events

Early Access to Beta Provided by EA/ Firemonkeys (Presented by EA Creator Network) may differ from actual version

Collect resources to build 3 story high rise apartment blocks in the Downtown Developer Events (there are currently six available) Once you have completed the Simtown Express Discovery Quest you will be able to begin one of these events (you can only complete one at a time) but there is no rush, these events will be available whenever you are ready to start them

It doesn’t matter which event you are completing as they all work the same way, they just unlock a different apartment. I will colour code each event so you know if something is different. Downtown Developer 1 is in Yellow, Downtown Developer 2 is in Green, Downtown Developer 3 is in Blue, Downtown Developer 4 is in Red, Downtown Developer 5 is in Purple and Downtown Developer 6 is in Orange

The aim of these events is to collect all the Granite, Glass and Gold you need at different locations around Simtown, these resources are then used to build the luxury high rise apartment block (1), the onyx tower block (2), the oak avenue apartment (3), 74th street apartment (4), the contempo penthouse (5) or botanica penthouse (6). Firstly you need to go to Downtown (use the Simtown Express to get there) and you will find five development icons.

You can start the Downtown Developer events in any order and if you have completed a previous one you can skip the tutorial

Downtown Developer Event 1– Click on this to get the option to demolish the buildings that are there:

Downtown Developer Event 3– Click on this to get the option to demolish the buildings that are there:

Downtown Developer Event 4– Click on this to get the option to demolish the buildings that are there:

Downtown Developer Event 5– Click on this to get the option to demolish the buildings that are there:

Downtown Developer Event 6– Click on this to get the option to demolish the buildings that are there:

Once demolished the event will begin and the first time limit will start, there are time limits in these events but there are different time limits for each stage, keep reading for more information on this

A lot of the images below are from the downtown developer 1 event but 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6 work the same, the grand prize is the only thing that is different

You will then get tasks to complete, these will explain how this event works so make sure you read them:

  • Open downtown developer menu- click on the orange symbol next to the downtown developer task to get to this menu, the menu is where you can see your progress in this event:

At the top you will see all the stages to complete in this event, then you will see the permit you currently have and below you can see the current stage requirements, right now only granite is required to complete stage one but this screenshot below shows a later stage that requires more resources:

  • View major stage deadlines- if you go back to the menu, on the bar at the top you will see under stage 2 it says ‘3 days’ this means you have 3 days to fill the bar by collecting the resources to reach stage 2 to be on track in this event, if you don’t complete a stage in the time limit you will be forced to spend simoleons to progress in this event (I don’t know how many simoleons it will cost as it varies depending on what level you are on, so if you are on level 55 expect a high cost!)

The time limits for each stage are:

  • Reach stage 2– 3 days
  • Reach stage 4– 6 days
  • Reach stage 6– 6 days
  • Reach stage 9 (final stage)– 15 days

These stages above are major upgrades so the building site will change when you reach these milestones, you will also receive other rewards when you reach each of these stages:

  • Stage 2– 2LP, 2SP and 1 Glass (which can then be used in the next stage)
  • Stage 4– 5LP, 5SP and 1 Gold (which can then be used in the next stage)
  • Stage 6– 10LP, 10SP and 1 Gold (which can then be used in the next stage)
  • Stage 9/Grand Prize– Empty 3 Story Apartment Lot, S20,000, 20LP and 15SP

  • Go to the resource location- every 24 hours you will receive a new permit to collect a resource at a different location, go back to the menu to find where you need to go and you can click ‘visit’ on the location to go straight there:

The location will be different for you and it will only be places you have already unlocked so if you haven’t built downtown high school yet you won’t get a permit to go there

  • Assign a sim to an x- once at the location you need to find the 2 x spots, have a sim click on one of these and select Collect Shard- 3 hours 55 minutes:

GLITCH: sometimes after you have put your sims on to collect shards they won’t collect them when you return hours later, while they work on a fix- move the sims next to the x before you click on the x and make sure you see them starting the action before you close the game or go somewhere else in simtown. If you have missed out on the time limited prizes due to this issue please contact the makers to see if you can be compensated.

Only two sims can collect shards at one time and a shard does not make a full piece, depending on the resource you need to collect different amounts of shards to make one resource:

  • Granite– collect 2 shards to make 1 granite
  • Glass– collect 3 shards to make 1 glass
  • Gold– collect 4 shards to make 1 gold

You need to collect a full piece within 24 hours to be able to use that towards your next permit, if you only collect one shard then you will lose this

  • Review resource progress- click on the menu to check your progress, the current requirements show you how many resources you need to complete that stage:

If you want to skip with SP this is the best place to do it as it is more expensive if you skip from the task action itself or the permit section of the menu:

How many SP do I need to collect instantly?

  • 1 Granite = 15 Social Points
  • 1 Glass = 47 Social Points
  • 1 Gold = 146 Social Points

The amounts above are roughly correct, it will be one or two SP out as you increase the amount of resources but it gives you some idea of how many you would need

  • Review the major stage timer- here you can see the next stage is locked:

If you miss one stage you can still catch up at the next stage as the time limit for the next stage does not start until you have completed the previous, for example, if you miss out on completing the 4th stage in the 6 day time limit once you have paid your simoleons to move on you will still get the full 6 day time limit to reach the 6th stage

If you complete the final stage of the Downtown Developer 1 in the 15 day time limit you will unlock the 3 Story Luxury Apartment that can be built on the high rise block, you still unlock the apartment block if you don’t complete this event in the time limit, once complete you will be able to build the empty 3 story to build your own apartment:

I warn you now, this building is hideous when complete! But the 3 story luxury apartment is very nice, if you don’t like it you can build the empty 3 story or even one of the original penthouse apartments

Take a tour of the 3 Story Luxury Apartment here:

Watch my walkthrough of this event here:

If you complete the final stage of the Downtown Developer 2 in the 15 day time limit you will unlock the 3 Story Onyx Towers that can be built on the onyx towers block, you still unlock the apartment block if you don’t complete this event in the time limit, once complete you will be able to build the empty 3 story onyx to build your own apartment:

Again this building is hideous when complete- unfortunately this time it is hideous inside and out! If you don’t like it you can build the empty 3 story or even one of the original penthouse apartments

I have no love for this build whatsoever- every single wall is black, including the exterior walls! Oh apart from the patches of green moss!! And the windows are tinted so no natural light is getting into this apartment. The gold door frames are probably so the sims can find the exits! After taking 30 days to complete this long and tedious event it would be great if the prize was at least worth the effort!

The best part of this completing this event in the time limit is you unlock some of the items in buy mode- I think we can all put them to better use than how they have been used in the apartment above!

Take a tour of the 3 Story Onyx Towers here:

Watch my walkthrough of this event here:

If you complete the final stage of the Downtown Developer 3 in the 15 day time limit you will unlock the 3 Story Oak Avenue Apartment that can be built on the high rise block, you still unlock the apartment block if you don’t complete this event in the time limit, once complete you will be able to build the empty 3 story oak avenue to build your own apartment:

This apartment is a huge improvement on the second one!

If you complete this event in the time limit you also unlock the grand bookcases and windows:

The bookcases are the size of two stories so you can create some amazing mezzanines with these!

Take a tour of the 3 Story Oak Avenue here:

If you complete the final stage of the Downtown Developer 4 in the 15 day time limit you will unlock the 3 Story 74th Street Apartment that can be built on the high rise block, you still unlock the apartment block if you don’t complete this event in the time limit, once complete you will be able to build the empty 3 story to build your own apartment:

img_1061

img_1063

This apartment is probably the one with the nicest exterior so far but it is very boring, spending 30 days completing this event to unlock this house that is mostly corridors seems like a waste of time:

img_1064img_1065

If you complete this event on time you also unlock the stairs and doors. I really love these items, it seems like the only reason to complete this in the time limit is to unlock these rather than the house template:

img_1066

Take a tour of the 3 Story 74th Street Apartment here:

If you complete the final stage of the Downtown Developer 5 in the 15 day time limit you will unlock the 3 Story Contempo Penthouse that can be built on the high rise block, you still unlock the apartment block if you don’t complete this event in the time limit, once complete you will be able to build the empty 3 story to build your own apartment:

This is my favourite apartment so far, the exterior and interior are a huge improvement on the previous 4 apartments!

If you complete this event in the time limit you also unlock juice bottle dividers and arbours:

Take a tour of the 3 Story Contempo Penthouse here:

If you complete the final stage of the Downtown Developer 6 in the 15 day time limit you will unlock the 3 Story Botanica Penthouse that can be built on the high rise block, you still unlock the apartment block if you don’t complete this event in the time limit, once complete you will be able to build the empty 3 story to build your own apartment:

The surrounding location for this penthouse is very similar to downtown developer 5’s grand prize. I love the natural touches to this house including living walls, green sofas and planters throughout.

If you complete in the time limit you also unlock cement railings and stairs and abstract water features:

Take a tour of the 3 Story Botanica Penthouse here:

Remember:

  • You need to have completed the Simtown Express Quest to unlock Downtown before you can start these events
  • You can only complete one downtown developer event at a time
  • These events are available forever so there is no rush to begin them but once you do start the first timer will begin, then it should take 30 days to complete
  • A new permit is issued every 24 hours

  • The location will be different for you and it will only be places you have already unlocked so you don’t have to build any new locations to find the resources
  • Only two sims can collect shards at once

GLITCH: sometimes after you have put your sims on to collect shards they won’t collect them when you return hours later, while they work on a fix- move the sims next to the x before you click on the x and make sure you see them starting the action before you close the game or go somewhere else in simtown. If you have missed out on the time limited prizes due to this issue please contact the makers to see if you can be compensated.

  • A shard is not a whole resource, if you don’t collect a whole resource in 24 hours you will lose the shards you have collected:
    • 2 Granite Shards= 1 Granite
    • 3 Glass Shards= 1 Glass
    • 4 Gold Shards= 1 Gold
  • The next major timer doesn’t start until the previous major milestone is complete
  • There are 9 stages to complete, completing each stage earns you rewards:
    • Stage 1- 2LP
    • Stage 2- Major upgrade, 2LP, 2SP and 1 Glass (which can then be used in the next stage)
    • Stage 3- 5SP
    • Stage 4- Major upgrade, 5LP, 5SP and 1 Gold (which can then be used in the next stage)
    • Stage 5- 10SP
    • Stage 6- Major upgrade, 10LP, 10SP and 1 Gold (which can then be used in the next stage)
    • Stage 7- S10,000
    • Stage 8- 15LP
    • Stage 9/Final Stage- Empty 3 Story Apartment Lot, S20,000, 20LP and 15SP
  • How many resources do I need for each stage?

Below I have listed how many resources you will need for each stage, some stages carry over resources from previous stages and some resources are rewards for reaching certain stages so I have only included how many you will need to make for that stage but I have included the total above those stages, for example stage 1 and 2 requires 6 Granite in total, you make 1 in stage 1 and the other 5 in stage 2:

  • Stages 1 & 2- 6 Granite in total
    • Stage 1- 1 Granite
    • Stage 2- 5 Granite
  • Stages 3 & 4- 11 Granite and 8 Glass
    • Stage 3- 7 Granite and 3 Glass
    • Stage 4- 4 Granite and 4 Glass
  • Stages 5 & 6- 8 Granite, 5 Glass and 4 Gold
    • Stage 5- 4 Granite, 2 Glass and 1 Gold
    • Stage 6- 4 Granite, 3 Glass and 2 Gold
  • Stages 7, 8 & 9- 24 Granite, 16 Glass and 13 Gold
    • Stage 7- 8 Granite, 6 Glass and 3 Gold
    • Stage 8- 10 Granite, 7 Glass and 7 Gold
    • Stage 9/ Final Stage- 6 Granite, 3 Glass and 2 Gold
  • If you earn enough resources before the 24 hours is over then you will have to wait for the rest of the 24 hours before you will get your next permit:

What do I think of these events? I was really upset when I saw they were adding another downtown developer event  after all the feedback I have given them about the first. They haven’t even fixed the glitch on the first one yet so it bound to occur again in this second event too! This is another event where unless you can play all day then you won’t be able to complete it in the time limit, the fact you have to pay if you miss a time limit I think is ridiculous and it is bound to cost thousands of simoleons. I still am yet to play the first event properly on my own game- the horror stories I have heard have really put me off. At least 90% of the comments about this event are negative yet they still decided another one was the right thing to add, it really makes me wonder why I bother trying to give them feedback, they clearly want this game to fail.

The Sims Freeplay- Simtown Health Spa Live Event

THIS EVENT HAS ENDED
The simtown health spa event is back for 12 days from the 28th September, this time it is a live event instead of a community event which means that you will only earn the personal prizes, not the community prizes this time. You also will be collecting arts and craft items from the stations not gems from the deposits.

If you started it last time you will start from where you got to, if you completed it last time you won’t have to complete it again!

This event is only here for 12 days and the aim of it is to collect enough arts and crafts items from the arts and crafts stations (found in the event tab of buy mode) to unlock all the items in this event

Check out my Guide to Completing Live Events (including tips!) HERE!

NOTE: if you did another Live Event then you will find your arts and crafts stations in your inventory (or in the house you left them at) you will only be able to use the candle ones until you unlock the other stations in this event

Can’t find your arts and crafts stations? Click on the craft station in your event tab to get the option to find your station, it will take you to the house where your stations can be found!

Want to skip the tasks list? Click here to head straight to the prizes! Please note that the prizes no longer cost gems, they cost arts and craft items- the pictures are from when this was a community event

Place a crafting station (find the candle station in the events tab of buy mode (or your inventory)- you can only buy 4)

Make some arts and crafts items (click on the candle station to make)- 23 seconds

This takes you to the prize progress tab (you can get to it by clicking on the flower event button in the corner of the screen)

Here you will see you have collected enough items to unlock the Spa Robes pack! When you unlock each pack, before the items are available in your home store/wardrobe you need to purchase them with the arts and crafts items you make- this goal is coming up!

Restock a crafting station (when the stock runs out you will have to restock before you can make anymore arts and crafts items)- You can restock instantly for 18 uses for 10SPs or restock for 2 uses which will take 10 seconds this time

Buy the spa robes pack (click on the flower event button, scroll down and click purchase- this will cost you 50 candles)

Use a coin flower patch (buy the coin flower patch from the event tab and select the spin plant option)

Check the daily goals (click on the planter event button and find the daily goals tab- claim the ones you can!)

Remember to claim your rewards each day!

Collect bonuses (while collecting after a certain amount of time you will see the arts and crafts item appear above that sims head, click to collect the bonus item!)

Continue collecting arts and crafts items- this is the last step but the event is not over, keep collecting the arts and crafts to unlock everything!

If you want to speed up a collecting arts and crafts action it will cost you SP, you will get the bonus gems as well if you speed it up!

I built the spa on a premium ocean view lot because I felt it was too compacted on the standard, on the premium the sauna and meditation rooms are separate, on the standard they are very close or attached to the main building and there is no room for the hot tub

The template already contains the prizes that you have unlocked during the event so you don’t have to buy any extras for this and you still have your free ones to use in a different house

Constructor Coins

You earn constructor coins by:

Personal Progress prizes

Completing Daily Goals

Coin Plant Patches

Earning Constructor Coins? Previously on these events I used social points on the Mega Spin Plant to win constructor points. I earn social points by completing the cooking hobby and earning LP, I can then turn the LP into SP using the social point plant on a normal garden patch- this was when it cost 5LP- the social point plant now costs 20LP so you may want to try the option below first instead:

Or you can use 450 candles for the Spin Plant (a good way to use up any spare candles) which will also earn you constructor coins but the amounts are less than they are from the Mega Spin Plant

What is the minimum and maximum amount of coins you can earn on the mega spin plant? The minimum is 10 and the maximum is 500

Now on the coin flower patch you can see the chances of getting the different combinations on each spin plant, click on the green i button to see:

Laura Craft? You may have noticed at the front of one of your houses there is a board with a bubble of a person holding arts and crafts items above it, this is Laura Craft, you can buy her for real money to help you complete the event. When you buy her, you select the item you want her to make from the options: 200 candles,  300 pottery, 450 jewelry or 500 glassware (the amounts seem to differ for most of you and I have no idea why that is!) (you will unlock all the options once you have unlocked all the stations) and you will be able to collect them after 2 hours.

Do I think she is worth it? They have improved Laura Craft a lot since the first event (although it would be great if she made constructor coins) she used to be able to collect every 8 hours, they have now changed this to 2 hours so she is more useful now so if you are struggling then you may want to splash out and give her a try but remember you will only get her for this event, you will have to buy her again to use her for a live event in the future. I personally don’t ever buy her, if I don’t manage to earn enough items or coins in the time limit I just wait until the next time the event is available!

If I brought Laura Craft in the last event do I get her for free or do I have to buy her again? You have to buy her again for this event.

Check out my Guide to Completing Live Events (including tips!) HERE!

If I don’t complete this event this time will I have to start from the beginning when it returns? No, you will start from where you got to this time!

The Sims Freeplay- Making 10,000 Simoleons in LESS THAN 2 HOURS!

In this post I am going to explain how to easily make 10,000 simoleons in less than 2 hours! I was using 10 sims to do this so if you are using less sims it will take you longer to reach 10,000 but if you are using more sims it will take you less time!

Firstly make sure your sims are inspired (sparkling) to do this you need to fill up their bars by fulfilling all their needs, once they are inspired they will sparkle and earn more money when baking and gardening which is really important for this:

We are going to continuously grow carrots using 10 sims every 5 minutes. As you can see in the image above sims will earn S48 growing carrots when inspired compared to S32 normally (which including the S3 cost for growing them leaves your sims with S45 each time rather than S29)

This table shows exactly how much money I made from this method in just over an hour:

Minutes

Amount

0 (starting amount) S140,875
5 S141,625
10 S142,175
15 S142,725
20 S143,275
25 S144,125
30 S144,775
35 S145,425
40 S146,375
45 S146,945
50 S147,395
55 S148,085
60 (1hr) S148,655
65 (1h5m) S149,465
70 (1h10m) S150,275
75 (1h15m) S150,965

I used this method while trying to complete the Multi Story Renovations Quest in the time limit, I only had S140,000 and I needed S150,000 to build the community center and after 1 hour 15 minutes I had enough money!

This is really easy to do when watching TV in the evening, you can put your sims onto grow carrots and then set a timer on your device for 5 minutes so you remember to go back onto the game regularly

Other money making tips:

  • Remember to upgrade your island monuments, you randomly get simoleon bonuses when gardening, baking and working when you upgrade The Riches of Terra
  • Lettuce is no longer as risky to grow as it used to be, it still may turn into a sim eating plant but you can usually now watch an advert to still get a reward rather than negotiating with it (it isn’t the full amount but I got S310 and 120XP each time I did this) this doesn’t work every time though (thanks Catharina for this tip!)

This house can be found under the driveway homes tab and built on a standard or premium residence, the first one is free then they cost simoleons depending on how many houses you have already built. You can add up to 4 cars to this house lot!

The other three car parking spaces need to be unlocked by purchasing with simoleons:

  • Additional Space One: S250,000
  • Additional Space Two: S750,000
  • Additional Space Three: S1,500,000

Once you purchase an additional space you will be able to add another car but you need to have more than one adult/senior sim living in this house to add more than one car otherwise it will just switch their car to the new one you have just brought. For example if you wanted 3 cars in this house you need 3 adult or senior sims living in this house.

The restaurant is the same on both the standard and premium, the only thing that differs is the patio area is bigger on the premium residence, although you only get two more tables even though there is a lot more room!

I don’t really see the point in building this on a house lot, it seems a waste of room when you could build a house instead as we already have a restaurant in Simtown!

Personally I don’t like this house template, if you want to unlock items from some previous events then you can find loads of them in this house but I think I will just be building my own!

If I don’t complete this event this time will I have to start from the beginning when it returns? No, you will start from where you got to this time!
