The Sims Freeplay- Hobbies: Cooking

BREAD WINNER QUEST – STOVE – TEEN, ADULT AND SENIOR SIMS – PRIZE: CHOPPING BOARDS AND 5LP

Once you complete the Bread Winner Quest your teen, adult and senior sims will be able to complete the cooking hobby by using kitchen equipment such as the stove, toaster and fridge that you can buy from the kitchen section of the home store or you can use the restaurant kitchen once you have completed the Sous Judgemental Quest and built the restaurant (you will need different equipment depending on the dish you are making in the hobby)

To begin select cooking on an oven to open up the list of dishes:

  • Cheese and Tomato on Toast- 1 minute (needs 1 star toaster)
  • Bacon and Eggs- 5 minutes
  • Level 2- Burgers- 20 minutes (cooking level 2 and needs 1 star toaster)
  • Level 2- Pizza- 40 minutes (cooking level 2 and needs 1 star microwave)
  • Level 3- Chili Con Carne- 1 hour (cooking level 3 and needs 2 star microwave)
  • Level 3- Spaghetti- 2 hours (cooking level 3 and needs a 1 star chopping board)
  • Level 4- Quiche- 3 hours (cooking level 4 and needs a 2 star fridge)
  • Level 4- Nachos- 5 hours (cooking level 4 and needs a 1 star chopping board)
  • Level 5- Spicy Tuna Rolls- 8 hours (cooking level 5 and needs a 3 star fridge)
  • Level 5- Chicken Salad- 2 hours (cooking level 5 and needs a 1 star fridge)
  • Level 6- Tacos- 12 hours (cooking level 6 and needs a 1 star chopping board)
  • Level 6- Roast Beef- 1 Day (cooking level 6 and needs a 3 star stove)
  • Complete restaurant to unlock- Lobster Thermidor- 5 hours- costs 3LP (can only be cooked at the restaurant)

When each of your sims first start the cooking hobby they won’t be able to make all of the dishes above even if you have the the right equipment in that house as they will need to level up in the hobby too (it will say on the greyed out box for that dish what you need to do before you can make that dish)

TIP: I only make cheese and tomato on toast as the level up percentage increases the same for all dishes so its more beneficial to make the cheese on toast as it only takes 1 minute!

After the time has passed come back and click the food plate bubble above your sims head, they will put the plate down and you will find one of the cooking utensil collectibles. Every time your sims cook their cooking hobby skill level up percentage will increase, once you reach 100% you will level up, there are 6 levels. You need to reach level 6 to be able to unlock all of the cooking utensil collectibles, once unlocked you will be able to find them.

The table below shows the level up percentage:

This may change in future updates

LEVEL Cheese and Toast- 1 minute
1-2 50%
2-3 25%
3-4 12%
4-5 7%
5-6 3%

The next table shows you for each level what new dishes you can make, the cooking utensil collectibles you unlock (so you can then find those ones too) and also the level up reward that a second and future sims will receive when they level up in this hobby:

LEVEL  TITLE  DISHES UNLOCKED 1st TIME LEVEL UP UNLOCKS 2nd+ TIMES LEVEL UP REWARD
1 Water Burner
  • Bacon and Eggs
  • Cheese on Toast
Bronzed Spatula, Silver Spatula and Gold Spatula are unlocked in the hobby collection
2 Hot Mess Maker
  • Burgers
  • Pizza
Bronzed Grater, Silver Grater and Gold Grater are now unlocked in the hobby collection 250XP
3 Ready Meal Maestro

6 Hail to the Chef
  • Tacos
  • Roast Beef
Bronzed Measuring Spoons, Silver Measuring Spoons and Gold Measuring Spoons are now unlocked in the hobby collection.

You can now complete the collection!

1LP

NOTE: only the first sim completing this hobby needs to get to level 6 to unlock all the collectibles, future sims will be able to find any collectible even if they are only on level 1 in this hobby but all sims need to level up to be able to cook all of the dishes

You won’t find a new collectible each time, you will get repeats, if this happens just keep going, you will find them eventually! If it is still taking too long you can use the lucky spin on the row where you cannot find the item, this will cost LPs, when you click on the LP button it will clear the row and give you a random collectible on that row so you aren’t guaranteed a new item (you will get back any other collectibles you already had in that row) Need to earn some LPs to use the lucky spin?

The completed cooking collection is shown below, once you complete the collection you need to click ‘start a new collection’ at the top of the hobby collection screen, this clears the board so you can complete the collection again to earn more rewards (you will only get the option to restart the hobby collection when you have completed the collection):

You will earn XPs when you complete a row in the hobby but to complete the collection you need to find all 18 of the collectibles

The rewards for completing this collection are chopping boards and 5LP:

  • The first time you complete the collection you unlock chopping boards which can be found in the kitchen section:

  • From the second time onwards each time you complete the collection you will earn 5LP

This is my favourite hobby as its really quick to get LPs and money by doing it, you just need several sims in a room with a stove and toaster for each person and then do the 1 minute option over and over and within about an hour or so (depending on how many sims you have) you should be able to find all the utensils as long as you have unlocked all 6 levels! But there will be so many dishes laying around you should have a few sims there to clean them up BUT if you completed the HANs On Quest and unlocked the dishwasher you will be able to load all plates instantly! How Do I Have So Many LPs explains in more detail.

Patrick says: “have all ten Sims in the room cooking and cleaning. That second it takes to present the dish can be used by the previous Sim to clean. I know it seems small, but over the course of that hour, ten Sims as opposed to six will yield a lot of money. ” And if you send your level six chefs to do another hobby then, restart them on the cooking hobby to get more money and an LP (as they will start at level one again they will get the rewards for levelling up)

TOP TIP from Anon: Get a fridge. I use the fridge to send every Sim ‘Cooking’ It stops the screen shifting, and you don’t need to swipe to click on every oven, just use the 1 Fridge every time to make your cheese on toast.

  1. I completed the collection once already. Redoing and just noticed the 3 hour cooking option disappeared. Is it possible to exhaust certain foods? Checked the supermarket and I couldn’t replenish inventory for cooking.

  2. i have completed all my cooking collection and unlocked the chopping board, but dont see the chopping board in my kitchen section.. do i need to build the restaurant first?

  3. Ok, I tried the 1 min cheese & tomato on toast and kept doing it for a good while till I completed the collection Yes, that worked. However, I had enough ‘Toastie’s’ by the time I finished to feed the whole of Simdom. Here lay the problem! I didn’t bother cleaning up after each time so I ended up with plates of the stuff all over the place, including the garden. AND it took almost an hour to clean this lot up, cos all my Sims (bar the master chef) were at work! So, here’s the solution, with added benefits I must add. I have 4 sims doing the 1 min thing over and over. I can average a collection normally in just under an hour. Benefit … 5 life points each time the collection is finished. These can soon mount up. The other benefit is that because you are doing a task every minute, (4 times collectively), you will now and then get another artifact, which means you can upgrade the monuments a tad quicker. All those 4 Sims are in a short space of time at the top of their game in the cooking hobby. The cleaning up you may ask? … Get a fifth Sim to do it. 4 Sims cooking, 1 cleaning up. He/she can just about cope with the washing up 4 times in a minute. Of course, have a break and actually get ’em to eat some now and again, but that takes 10 mins, still got to clean up after, and in my book wastes time.

  4. Oh, and forgot to mention, if you do the same type of thing with gardening, you can make a lot of Simoleons. Planting corn is more cost effective than say Watermellons. I.e. plant corn 3 times in an hour, (20 mins a pop) will make more money than planting Watermellons for an hour.

  5. It says I have 6/6 in cooking. But in the hobby. Level 6 is not filled with the spoons. I kept cooking. But no spoons are getting unlocked. What do I do.

    • Like Weightless Magic says, keep doing the 1 minute option over and over. What you get after cooking, as in other hobbies is random. With 12 items to collect, the chances of getting the ones you want will reduce exponentially. I have 6 Sims doing this and the last items allways will take longer. But hey, it’s worth the 5 life points each time, cos those are hard to come by at the best of times and this seems the quickest way of gettibg ’em.

      • What helps even more is getting a level six to turn to fishing, and starting him back as a novice cooking. You get xp, and more importantly $750 and an LP on the way to level 6. I choose fishing because, since the other hobbies all take 10 minutes, fishing has the chance of getting the fish you have to tap for money, or xp. Never have a level 6 chef cook a meal, it’s wasted money and LP.

  6. So, here’s the definitive guide to making tons of cash, LP’s, and xp using the cooking hobby. Get a big room, clear it out. Put doors, lights, etc out of the way of where your fingers will tap. You’re working your way toward having 10 ovens and 10 counters with 10 toasters on them. You space out five sets on opposite walls. So it goes oven, counter/toaster, space, oven… If you can’t afford it, buy what you can. You will be able to shortly. If you can afford nothing, get to know some bell peppers really well.

Okay, so we’re all set up, and looks like a restaurant kitchen, right? Good. We’re going to be tapping reeeeealllllyyy fast. Before we get started, know: when cleaning a fish, you can immediately cancel once the meter begins to climb, and the dish will disappear. Also, when your Sims present the food they just cooked, it takes a second to do it. In that time, we’re going to the previous Sim to get him to cook another meal. Also, you’ll get a ton of notification screens, assume that I’m implying to hit “okay,” “back,” or whatever gets you back to the action. When you complete the sets and collect your LP’s, stay in the screen, go to the bottom and reset. It saves a second.

Here is the progression. Let’s say all ten Sims have completed one minute meals with the bubbles waiting to be tapped. P1 = person 1

    P1 FOOD BUBBLE
    P1 DISH, CLEAN, CANCEL.
    P2 BUBBLE
    P1 STOVE, COOKING, MEAL
    P2 DISH, CLEAN, CANCEL.
    P3 BUBBLE

And so on, around the room. You get your speed going right, you’ll complete a set in less than 10 minutes, for a profit of around $5,000, 5 LP (more if you don’t have level 6 chefs, which they will become very quickly), and tens of thousands of xp. In ten minutes.

This system makes all forms of gardening useless unless you’re sleeping. Really it’s the most profitable return in the whole game. You just need to be active in doing it, it’s not a passive profit. Anyways, hope that’s helpful.

    • Patrick, your above reply regarding getting a level 6 to change to fishing, then back to cooking sounds like a plan. I assume I can rotate that with all six of ’em then? I think you can only get 1 at a time to fish .. Will try that out tonight. I think 10 is a bit much for me personally. I got 2 folk cleaning up as well as the 6 cooks and it’s chaotic at the best of times. I only do it for an hour or so in the evening, during the day, I get all 22 planting. Meaning I can carry on working without too much intervention. This does the trick money wise, just go for the LP later. By the way, you posted the reply to ‘Anonymous’. Actually it was my post. Nige.

      • That was me being stupid. I must have missed the last paragraph.

One thing I would add to what you said, though, would be to have all ten Sims in the room cooking and cleaning. That second it takes to present the dish can be used by the previous Sim to clean. I know it seems small, but over the course of that hour, ten Sims as opposed to six will yield a lot of money. Add in the rotation of sending your level six chefs to fish, and restarting the cooking hobby to get more money and an LP (and doing it to four more people) will make a significant enough difference to mention.

        Sorry for the overlap.

  7. How do you get the dishes to have more than 1 star? After I cook anything, then tap on the dish to clean it up, it always says the name of the dish, like Tacos, then has 3 stars at the top that can be filled but only 1 of them is ever filled.

    Do you know why?

  8. I was wondering if the quality / star rating of the stove affects cooking. The 1 mn interaction seems to be the same on the worst and best stoves.

  9. I’ve noticed that since I had a sim switch to the cooking hobby, when I go to a different family, I can no longer select the meal option when I select the fridge. Now, the only options are Cooking and Leftovers. Does this mean I have to install a Thanksgiving Banquet table in every household that does not have a sim with the cooking hobby or have a sim from each household switch from their current hobby to the cooking hobby?

  10. I don’t have the book of spells quest cause EA stopped updating my game but in the contact center on the 4th step it says how would you like to contact us and I just don’t get how to send the massage. Please help me.

  11. Going crazy! I can’t get the cooking hobby to start. I’m on level 24. It shows it in my queue. Any suggestions? What am I missing? Thanks

    • All hobby posts can be found here: thegirlwhogames.wordpress.com/sims-freeplay/hobbies/ I don’t know what quests you have done yet but you will be able to do the fashion designer hobby, once you have done love is in the air you can go fishing

  12. Hello there, awesome blog ! Really helped me with the game 🙂 I wanted to ask – In one of my houses i put 6 ovens and put my sims to cook and there were plates everywhere, and the plates in front of the ovens cannot be removed, there are black circles under them and when i click Clean up the sims pick it up but the plate is still there, what should i do? i cannot put anything there 😦 zi hope you post my comment and reply , have a nice day !

    • Hello, I’m glad it helps!
Its not that they can’t be removed the problem is there are so many plates that cleaning one of them isn’t making the pile decrease, you need to keep cleaning them up, I spent an hour the other day cleaning up one pile of plates- it takes forever! When they start going down the black circle will get smaller

      • Yes, that worked well for most of them, but i did the same thing with others and apart from the black circles there are pixel squares and the plates are still there, even the circles don’t get smaller , but thanks anyway! i will keep cleaning them up 🙂 or make around 5-6 sims grab a plate

  13. What I don’t get is that even though you’ve taken the time to complete all the sets you still have to pay for the chopping boards! That’s not fair!

  14. Hey ! I think i found the solution to this problem- it’s better if you build a big room where you will put all the plates. First you click on the plates with the black circles and you just fill the room with plates randomly, wherever there’s space available, you don’t have to click once on the plates then put it somewhere, and do the same thing all over again. Just spread the plates all over the house and then clean up for each of the piles 🙂 maybe you do it this way but i wanted to try my luck 🙂
Note: Make sure you do not put them in the same room with the black circles, they will get circles as well

  15. I just want to note that I make a TON of life points from this hobby. I’m an obsessive gamer when I find one I really like. So I found a way.
Anyways…. I have 22 sims at the moment and have all the hobbies unlocked that I know of. I have 2 Sims assigned to each hobby (one boy and one girl) EXCEPT the cooking hobby. When I’m just playing around I have the rest of the Sims doing the cooking hobby and in about 15 minutes I’ve completed the whole collection and get 5 life points. Plus every time those Sims level up all the way I get another life point. So when they get to 6 I’ll have them do another hobby forbid minutes so I can start the cooking hobby over again.
Sorry this is so long. Hope you moderate so you can shorten it up if you can!:)

  16. I’m struggling to get the gold chefs knife what did other people do because one of my tasks is to bake a quiche but I’m not on level 4 yet need to complete level 3 but struggling to get the gold chefs knife.

    • You don’t need to get a piece to level up, you just need to keep cooking to level up and to get the chefs knife, there isn’t another way to get it, just cook cheese on toast a lot.

  17. I when get the cutting board and then reset the cooking hobby to get the 2nd round prize of LPs, but then i make the sims do another hobby so that when they come to cooking again they are level 1, will this make me go make to the 1st round of prize again (cutting board)?

  18. I just finished the collection. Started again and decided that if I put a whole lot of sims on cooking I’d get those lps much faster. I made one of my sims cook cheese and tomato on toast( it was his VERY first time cooking ) and he got silver measuring spoons! Is this normal?

  19. Thank you SO much!!! Today I made 15 lp AND went from %34 to next level! I owe you SO much and I wish people would appreciate you and all the hard work you put in!

      • I made enough lps to have a shopping spree! Now I’m a bit low😔😔😔, need those bday cakes finished so that I have more sims cooking! I managed to buy 4 bday cakes, a pink race car bed AND a red one! I also levevled up several levels meaning I now have 7 quests in the queue because I can’t afford the restaurant! 😔😔
        Thanks,
        Someone

  20. I can’t undestant how to earn LP’s or money by cooking. I only earn a couple of XP’s when I collect all the knives for example.. Or When I’ve collected three of anything really. I understand your idea to make multiple sims cooking at the same time and I’ve tried it, but I’m not getting any simoleons not to mention LP’s! Can you try to clear it for me? 😡

    • You get simoleons when ever you find a new item
Have you completed the collection? If so you will need to restart it to find the new pieces and complete the collection again to get Lps

  21. Thanks for this post. Gave it a go yesterday and managed to get a fair few LP’s. Only downside I’ve found is that when a sim gets to level 5 it adds 10,000 to the town value. I was doing the hobby to save up for the swimming pool but then levelling up my 6 sims to cooking level 5 made my town go up a level and now the pool is more expensive! Wondering if it’s worth stopping at level 4 and restarting the hobby to avoid this? 😕

    • Oh yes that is a problem
Yes that would be the best thing to do until you have built the swim center
You will need to put the sim on a different hobby for one go then back to cooking and they will start at level 1 again

  22. Whenever I have a collection – I get xp, while lps are only in the last collection which I can’t get. So annoying.
I have 3 Sims cooking, then the one one on lowest level I make clean up and then all over again. Really good way to earn money. From 200s, in an hour I went to almost 4000, so really good and quick. But so annoying not getting lps for each collection finished.

  23. It won’t let me get past level 5 on the cooking hobby. Every time I click on the stove and choose cooking the green experience points bar starts at the very beginning of level 5.

    • This is a glitch but it doesn’t stop you from levelling up, the hobby bar % just goes back to 0 everytime you do the hobby but if you look when you finish the hobby it will show the correct % before you start it again

    • I have the same issue as Chelsey! My sims have been stuck on level 5 for a week now. At first, I thought I was just imagining it, but they will never get to level 6. Sometimes my progress bar gets close to being full. But when I do one more dish, it completely starts back at 0% for level 5 again. Does anyone know how to fix this? Or is it just a bug?
      Thanks

      • At the moment there is a glitch on the hobby % bar where everytime you start the hobby again it goes back to 0% on the bar but look at it when you finish the hobby, it should be the correct %, just keep going because you should still be able to level up with this glitch.

  24. I can’t seem to cook cheese on toast. I only have one option and I’ve been doing it like crazy. When can I our How can I Cook the cheese on toast to finish the quest? I’ve collected 10 of 18 awards.

  25. I’m cooking over and over at level 5. It increases but whe i try to cook a new dish it resets to % 0. I cant reach level 6. Is there a solution?

    • At the moment there is a glitch on the hobby % bar where everytime you start the hobby again it goes back to 0% on the bar but look at it when you finish the hobby, it should be the correct %, just keep going because you can still level up with this glitch.

  26. Hi 🙂
Just asking, how can we make a sim forget about a certain hobby?
I have a sim with the diving hobby but I wanted it to forget the hobby and start the salsa hobby, but it still says she’s on the diving hobby…
I letted her to do some salsa a couple of times with her partner but she’s still on the diving hobby.

  27. I finished the hobby and all collections but no lps. How do you get lps from cooking hobby? Do you do full collections several times, or?

  28. Hi, first I want to thank you for your blog but I also have a question, I am have just completed the 5th set ig utensils and I have been trying to get the 6th set but am having no luck at all, am I doing something wrong? Are u automatically able to get the 6th set or do you have to do something first?? Like get a higher skill level??

  29. Well they seem to place the food on the floor and the only way to get it of is if they eat it is there a diiferent way

  30. My weekly quest is telling me to make an apple pie but I no longer have the option for baking no matter which stove I try to use or which Sim I try to have do it?

  31. I reached level 6 at cooking, found all collectibles but I didn’t get the chopping board…I even restarted the collection and got 5LP but no chopping boards…help?

  32. just want to ask, have you done the quest where you have to go to the neighbours and do a fashion design or something? i just need a neighbour that have a fashion studio.
    Thank you

  33. Hello, thank you for your great tips!:) for some reason I’m stuck on level 6 with 100% and I have no utensils from this level. I have been cooking for weeks non stop. Is this a glitch as well?

  34. I completed the cooking and unlocked the chopping board however when I go into the home store I only have one chopping board to choose from (the blue one with carrots on it) I’ve seen a lot of other chopping boards in the game and even your photos. How do I get more chopping boards? Do I have to redo the cooking quest again?

    • no you don’t have to redo the hobby again, both chopping boards should have unlocked at the same time, the only thing I can think why it might not show is if it unlocks at a later level, look at the greyed out items in the kitchen section, is it in there?
