The Sims Freeplay- Adding Basements

Once you complete the Basement of Kings Quest you can build a basement under your houses, this post explains how to add a basement and all the ways you can customise it!

NOTE: you will not be able to resize a basement or add more rooms until you have completed the quest

20151024-181135.jpg

Building a basement

Building a basement is a lot like building a room except it is underneath your existing house. You can build the basement anywhere inside the grid area (unless there is a pool above) even if it is larger than the rooms above.

The second orange tab in the house section of the home store is basements. Hold and drag anywhere on the ground to build a basement. Green means the room can be built.

20151024-182906.jpg

The white dotted lines show you were the rooms are above (the blue line is the outline of the pool):

20151024-183009.jpg

Drag the white highlighted edged to resize.

What is the cheapest basement? A 2×1 basement will cost S8,000

Adding Stairs

You need to add stairs to the basement to be able to access it. The red areas as shown in the picture below show you were items are on the floor above so the stairs cannot be placed there:

20151024-182826.jpg

If you want to place stairs somewhere you can’t, you have three options:

    1. Move items from the floor above so you have room
    2. Choose smaller stairs or an elevator that may fit
    3. Build another room in a clearer area (outside the house space so you can access the basement from outside)

20151024-182746.jpg

20151024-182753.jpg

Decorating the basement

You do this the same way you would decorate a new room

Deleting a Basement

While on the basement tab click on the basement room you wish to delete and select the red simoleon symbol to sell it. You can delete basement rooms even if there are rooms on the floor above.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS ABOUT THIS QUEST

please read before asking

How do I start this discovery quest?
Firstly you need to complete the book of spells quest then you can find the wizard in the park to start this quest

Can I do discovery quests at the same time as a main quest?
Yes you can

Why can’t I do this discovery quest yet?
You cannot do more than one discovery quest at the same time, if you are currently on another one (the list can be found here) you will not be able to do this one until that one is completed

Do I have to do this quest?
If you don’t start the quest you don’t have to do it at all but if you have already started it you need to complete it before you can move on to the next quest

I haven’t started this quest yet, will it still be available when I want to do it?
Yes it will be, you can choose to start it whenever you like

I can’t get two sims to sit at the dinner table, everyone sits down before them!
There is a glitch on this goal, leave the park and go back, your sims need to sit down quickly before the other characters can

Why can’t I record a video apology to the werewolf?
You need to click on him and select the option

I can’t find the wizard to high five him, where is he?
All you can do is look around simtown for him, when you find him he should go back to his cottage

What do I get if I complete this quest in the time limit?
The wizards cottage

Where can I find the wizards cottage?
You can find it on the list of premade houses to build on an empty house lot

Why is it always daytime at the wizards cottage?
It just is, it isn’t a major problem though!

What happens if I don’t complete in the time limit, can I still finish this quest?
Yes you have to finish it to unlock the potion brewing hobby before you can move onto the next quest

I didn’t complete in the time limit, can I restart the quest?
No, you cannot redo quests

Can I still get the prize if I don’t complete in the time limit?
No, the only way to get the limited time prizes is by completing the quest in the time limit

I don’t like this quest! Can I just skip it?
No, you have to complete this quest before you can move onto the next one now that you have started it, if you don’t start it you don’t have to do it

Some times are slightly different on my game, why is this?
Times may vary depending on the star rating of the item you are using, as the higher star rating an item has the quicker you will complete a goal

Some times are really off/ different goals show for me, why is this?
This will be because the quest has been updated recently, I try my best to keep these posts up to date but it is difficult as I cannot redo every quest each time the game is updated. If you notice any changes please let me know so I can update the post

This quest unlocks the potion brewing hobby, does the time limit start straight away once I have completed this quest?
Yes, the time limit for the hobby starts straight away once this quest is complete, you can click no when the hobby pop up appears but this does not stop the timer going down

The Sims Freeplay- Adding Balconies

Once you complete the Lovey-Dovey Balcony Quest you can build balconies on houses that have more than one floor, this post explains how to add a balcony and all the ways you can customise it!

NOTE: you will not be able to customise a balcony until the quest has been completed

20151024-181051.jpg

1.Building a Balcony

You can build a balcony on any floor except the ground floor, you need to go to the house section of buy mode, click on the last orange tab then you can touch and drag anywhere inside the yellow highlighted area but it must be connected to the house. Green means it can be built there.
image

Drag the white highlighted edged to resize

Balconies can be joined together to create more interesting shapes.

What is the cheapest balcony? A 2×1 balcony will cost S6,000

2.Support posts

The second tab is support posts, you don’t need to add them but you may want to if you want a larger balcony further away from the house. These are placed underneath the balcony (if you have two balconies one above the other you can add support posts to the balcony below)
image

This video explains how support posts are used to create bigger balconies:

3.Balcony Paving

The third tab is where you can select the type of tiles you want on your balcony, click on the style then click on the balcony
image

4.Railings

The fourth tab changes the railings, again click on the style then onto the balcony and it will place them around the edge
image

Deleting a Balcony

While on the balcony tab click on the balcony you wish to delete and select the red simoleon symbol to sell it.

The Sims Freeplay- Hobbies: Fashion Hunter

PRETTY LITTLE PLANTERS QUEST – FASHION HUNTER BARGAIN CENTER – TEEN AND ADULT SIMS – PRIZES: MALL STORES, CINEMA AND 3LP

TIME LIMITED HOBBY – TIME: 7 DAYS – TIME LIMITED PRIZE: INDOOR SKYDIVING

Once you complete the Pretty Little Planters Quest and clear all the upstairs areas at the mall including the cinema court area (read this post for more information) you can then build the fashion hunter bargain center:

image

Once built the time limit for this hobby will begin and your adult and teen sims will have to complete the hobby collection in 7 days to unlock the indoor skydiving wind tunnel at the mall:
image

TIP: I recommend having lots of LPs before you start this hobby, I started with 100LPs and used up most of them because without them completing in time is almost impossible! Check out this post if you don’t have any LPs

You can have up to 5 adult or teen sims completing this hobby at once, you need to click on any store upstairs, the sale stalls or clothes racks to get the option:

  • Hunt for Fashion- 5 hours 30 minutes

image

NOTE: only 5 sims can complete this hobby at one time

After the time has passed come back and click the exclamation mark above your sims head to find one of the fashion hunter collectibles. Every time your sims complete this hobby their hobby skill level up percentage will increase, once you reach 100% you will level up, there are 6 levels. You need to reach level 6 to be able to unlock all of the fashion hunter collectibles, once unlocked you will be able to find them.

The table below shows the level up percentage:

This may change in future updates

 LEVEL Browse Makeup
1-2 50%
2-3 25%
3-4 12%
4-5 7%
5-6 5%

The next table shows you for each level what fashion collectibles you unlock (so you can then find those ones too) and also the level up reward that a second and future sims will receive when they level up in this hobby:

LEVEL  TITLE 1st TIME LEVEL UP UNLOCKS 2nd+ TIMES LEVEL UP REWARD
1 Fashion Flailer Prep Up and Urban are unlocked in the hobby collection
2 First Offer Taker So Smart and Retro-vert are now unlocked in the hobby collection 250XP
3 Bargain Lover Harajuku Panic and Rags to Raggedy are now unlocked in the hobby collection 500XP
4 Fashion Eye Street Smart and Punk’s Not Dead are now unlocked in the hobby collection S750
5 Dream Dealer True Glamour and Casual Friday are now unlocked in the hobby collection 10,000 Town Value
6 Style Shark Sporting Chance and Gothic are now unlocked in the hobby collection.

You can now complete the collection!

1LP

NOTE: only the first sim completing this hobby needs to get to level 6 to unlock all the collectibles, future sims will be able to find any collectible even if they are only on level 1 in this hobby

You won’t find a new collectible each time, you will get repeats, if this happens just keep going, you will find them eventually! If it is still taking too long you can use the lucky spin on the row where you cannot find the item, this will cost LPs, when you click on the LP button it will clear the row and give you a random collectible on that row so you aren’t guaranteed a new item (you will get back any other collectibles you already had in that row) Need to earn some LPs to use the lucky spin?

The completed fashion hunter collection is shown below, once you complete the collection you need to click ‘reset the collection’ at the top of the hobby collection screen, this clears the board so you can complete the collection again to earn more rewards (you will only get the option to restart the hobby collection when you have completed the collection):

The first time you complete each row you will unlock a new mall store, after this time you will earn XPs when you complete a row in the hobby but to complete the collection you need to find all 12 of the collectibles

Stores:

Find the first row of fashion to unlock:

  • Tuck’s- 180,000 16 hours

Find the second row of fashion to unlock:

  • Friday Night- 225,000 1 Day

Find the third row of fashion to unlock:

  • Jack and Jill- 14o,000 16 hours

Find the fourth row of fashion to unlock:

  • Summer to Winner- 150,000 1 Day

Check out my Guide to the Mall post for more information on these stores

If you complete this hobby in the time limit you will unlock the indoor skydiving which can be found at the mall: image

Once built you can have a solo sky dive for 10 minutes or wait for a partner and tandem sky dive for 20 minutes.

The rewards for completing this collection are the simtown cinema and 3LP:

  • The first time you complete this collection you unlock the cinema (even if you don’t complete the hobby in the time limit) The cinema can be found at the mall:

image

  • From the second time onwards each time you complete the collection you will earn 3LP

TIP for completing in time?

I completed in time by using the lucky spin on level 5 and 6 fashions because my sim was taking too long to level up even when I used LPs to speed up the hobby. This hobby is incredibly difficult to complete in the time limit, if you are busy don’t build the bargain center yet and if you don’t have any LP I would suggest earning some before starting this hobby if you want to complete it in the 7 day limit.

The Sims Freeplay- Hobbies: Frequently Asked Questions

  • Can a sim do more than one hobby?

No, a sim can only do one hobby at any time.

  • Can a sim switch hobby- if so what happens to previous progress?

Yes, a sim can switch hobby, just click on the item to start the hobby and then a pop up will appear asking if you are sure you want to change their hobby, click yes:

The progress for their previous hobby will disappear and will be replaced by the new one, if you wanted to switch them back again you would have to start from level one.

  • If I switch hobby do I lose the prizes I won for completing that hobby?

No, all prizes you win you keep even if you switch hobbies

  • My sim aged and now he has no hobby- why?

This happens when the hobby a sim has cannot be completed at the next stage of their life so a preteen can do Ballet but a teen cannot so when they age it will say they do not have a hobby.

You will have to pick a new hobby for them to do.

  • When sims automatically age, what happens to the hobbies?

If they can do the hobby at the next stage of their life then it will still show as their hobby, for example a teen who cooks can still cook when they become an adult.

  • What is your favourite hobby?

Cooking has got to be my favourite, I have most of my sims doing this hobby because you get 5LPs everytime you complete the collection (apart from the first time)

  • What are your least favourite hobbies?

I really don’t like fishing, mainly because you have to get to level 8 to be able to complete the collection and it takes such a long time. I also don’t like the seashell collecting hobby, you have to be on at different times of the day to get different items and I am never awake at midnight! (and please don’t do the time cheat- it messes up your game)

  • Should I do every hobby as I don’t have enough sims

I would recommend you complete every hobby at least once, just incase a timed event starts (where you need to complete a hobby in a certain time) so you don’t have to waste time during the event levelling up and unlocking all the collectibles, you will have already done it.

Once you have completed a hobby you can either do it again or switch to a different hobby.

  • What is the point of doing hobbies?

Partaking in hobbies earns you rewards such as town value, simoleons, XPs and LPs when your sims level up, find new items and complete rows and you unlock new items or receive LPs when you complete the whole collection.

Hobbies are a good way to make money but you don’t have to do them!

COLLECTIBLES

  • What are collectibles?

Collectibles are items you find each time you complete a hobby. You have to find all collectibles to complete a hobby collection. If you find a new collectible you receive a simoleon reward.

  • Why can I not find all the collection items? And why are some of them grey?

To find all collectibles you need to be on the highest level in that hobby. If some are greyed out it is because your sim has not reached that level yet, they need to keep doing the hobby to level up.

  • If I am on level five can I still get collectibles from the lower levels?

Yes you can, you can get collectibles from any level as long as you are on or above that level.

  • Do all my sims completing a hobby need to be on the highest level to find all collectibles?

No, only one sim needs to be on the highest level to find all the collectibles.

  • When I am trying to find new collectibles in a hobby, does it matter which option I choose? Will the longer option mean I am more likely to find a new collectible?

No, it doesn’t matter what option you choose, the longest option will not guarantee you find a new item. I would suggest the shortest option when you are trying to find collectibles at that current level as you will find them quicker.

What is the lucky spin?

The lucky spin gives you the chance of finding a new item using LPs:

  1. Open the hobby tab
  2. Click on the LP button on the row you want to get a collectible on
  3. It will clear the row and give you a random collectible on that row so you aren’t guaranteed a new item (you will get back any other collectibles you already had in that row)

  • Is lucky spin worth it?

I think it depends on the situation, I wouldn’t use it if it would be cheaper to speed up the hobby itself, for example, if the lucky spin costs 6LPs for that row and the hobby can be sped up with 3LPs I would speed the hobby up.

But it can be useful if it is taking too long to reach the next level, I tend to use it on timed hobbies and on the last row before I have unlocked the highest level and I don’t have anything in that row already because then you are guaranteed a new item.

This video shows you how to do a lucky spin:

HOBBY TAB

  • How do I find the hobby tab?
  1. You will find the hobby tab on the sim information panel (shown in the picture below)
  2. If you click on the circular hobby symbol it will open the hobby tab on that collection, then using the tabs at the top you can find a different collection

  • Why don’t Karate and Ballet show on the hobby tab?

They don’t have collectibles so don’t appear on the hobby tab, you only unlock items when you level up the first time you complete these hobbies.

LEVELLING UP

  • How can my sims level up quicker?

The best way is to choose the longest option for the hobby, the longer the option, the quicker your sim should level up.

You can speed up a hobby using LPs, this will also level your sim up.

  • I have a preteen ice skating, she will be a teen before she gets to level 6, will she need to start from level 1 as a teen?

No, she won’t need to as a teen can still do the ice skating hobby

  • When your sim gets to the highest level should you switch hobbies?

You can do if you want, I would recommend changing hobby once you complete the collection if you don’t like it and I always put my cooking sims on ghost hunting for one go then back to cooking once they reach level 6 because then they can earn the rewards for levelling up again. They can complete the ghost hunting hobby once to change their hobby then when they return to the cooking hobby they will be level one again.

  • Do you lose the rewards you won for levelling up when your sim changes hobby or dies?

No you don’t

  • If you have reached the highest level in a hobby and move all your sims to a new hobby would you have to unlock all the levels again?

No, you wouldn’t have to, the collection will be unlocked forever, but if you don’t get to the highest level another sim will have to reach the highest level

COMPLETING A COLLECTION

  • How do you restart a collection?

Go to the hobby tab and at the top of the collection click start new to clear the board:

image

Does restarting a collection restart your sims level?

No, it doesn’t, your sims skill level will stay the same.

HOBBIES AND LIFE DREAMS

  • Is there any point giving a sim a hobby when they need to complete life dreams? Do they have time?

Yes there is and they will have time to partake in a hobby because it shouldn’t take the whole life stage to complete their life dream. Also some life dreams are hobby related so you can complete the life dream and hobby in one go!

TIMED HOBBIES

  • What is the difference between a timed hobby and a timed hobby event?

-Timed hobbies are ones that need to be completed for the first time in the time limit to get a prize, for example, Spellcasting

-Timed hobby events are hobbies that can be completed previously then have to be completed a certain number of times during the time limit to unlock new items, for example, Long Hair Event (completing the fashion designers hobby 9 times to unlock all 9 hairstyles) a list of time limited hobby events can be found here

  • Which hobbies are timed?

Breakdancing– complete in 7 days to unlock the DJ booth

Broomstick Flying– complete in 7 days to unlock the mop

Fashion Hunter– complete in 7 days to unlock the indoor skydiving center

Finger Painting– complete in 7 days to unlock the pop up book

Makeup Artist– complete in 7 days to unlock the beauty vanity

Musical Expression– complete in 7 days to unlock the infant bouncer

Potion Brewing– complete in 7 days to unlock wizard costumes

Puppy Pals– complete in 7 days to unlock poodles

Salsa Dancing– complete in 7 days to unlock the villa

Spell Casting– complete in 7 days to unlock the owl

Storyteller– complete in 7 days to unlock the campfire

Survivalist– complete in 7 days to unlock the picnic basket

  • How do you manage to complete timed hobbies and events in the time limit?

Before a timed hobby starts (if I know about it in advance) and throughout the event I have all my cooking sims completing the hobby as much as possible to get as many LPs I can (explained in this post) I then use these LPs to either speed up the timed hobby so I can complete it as quickly as possible or I will use LPs to do lucky spins on the last row if I am running out of time.

Tips for timed hobbies:

  1. Have as many LPs as possible so you can speed up or use the lucky spin to complete
  2. Do the longest option possible to level up, then do the shortest option to get the collectibles
  3. Keep going- don’t get disheartened if you get the same items a lot, they don’t make these easy!

Tips for timed events:

  1. I suggest having a sim complete each hobby at least one so that when a timed event starts you don’t have to waste time levelling up your sims
  2. Again LPs are incredibly useful!
  3. And if you don’t complete the first time, don’t worry, these events usually happen again!

  • If I click not now on a timed hobby what happens?

The not now button is very misleading because it doesn’t stop the timer, it actually doesn’t do anything!

  • Does everyone start timed events at the same time?

Yes, timed hobby events are only available for a limited time and all players have to complete them in the same time period.

COMPETITION CENTER

  • How does the competition center work?

The higher level you are in a career or hobby the more chance you have of winning first prize at the competition center.

When you click on the competition center (as shown in the picture below) it will appear with a competition (I had the archery hobby) it tells you how much you will get for each placing:

  • 1st place- 3LPs
  • 2nd place- 1LP
  • 3rd place- S1000 and 1000XPs
  • 4th place- S500 and 500XPs

Then you can select a sim- always go for the sim with the highest level in that hobby/career (it will tell you what level your sims are at)

For example: Zack is level 6 in archery so I would definitely use him over Hayley who has never done archery before (level 0/6)

NOTE: your sim must not be busy for them to partake in a competition, they will appear greyed out if they are busy.

Once you have selected your sim they will be busy competing for 24 hours, once the time is up you will need to go back to the competition center to see where they were placed.

If your sim is level 6 then they should come first but they don’t always!

image

  • Is it worth it?

I rarely use the competition center,  its a good way to make a few extra LPs but it does mean your sim cannot do anything else for a whole day.

  • Can I enter my sim in the competition center for a previous hobby?

You could but they would be level 0 in that hobby so probably would only be 4th, it is much better to enter a sim in for the hobby they are currently doing.

Thanks for reading!
