The Sims Freeplay- Hobbies: Salsa Dancing

A DANCE TO REMEMBER QUEST – JUKEBOX – ADULT SIMS ONLY – PRIZES: BREAKDANCING HOBBY AND 5LP

TIME LIMITED HOBBY – TIME: 7 DAYS – TIME LIMITED PRIZE: LATIN VILLA

Once you complete the A Dance to Remember Quest the time limit for the salsa dancing hobby will start straight away, to begin this hobby you need to buy the jukebox from the promotions r us store for S5,000 and place it in one of your sims houses:

image

I cannot place the jukebox, it says its locked/ limited item, what do I do? You will have this problem if you try and place it from the new items tab, look in your inventory instead to be able to place the jukebox in one of your sims houses.

If you complete this hobby in the 7 day time limit you will unlock the Latin villa from the quest:
image

You will need two sims to complete this hobby at one time, the first sim selects wait for partner and the second sim selects one of the hobby options:

  • Quick Salsa- 1 hour 30 minutes
  • Extended Mambo- 7 hours 30 minutes

NOTE: you can only buy one jukebox the first time you complete this quest and 4 sims can use a jukebox at one time (2 couples) after the first time as many sims as you want can complete this hobby as you can buy as many jukeboxes as you want

After the time has passed come back and click the exclamation mark above your sims head to find one of the salsa dancing collectibles. Every time your sims complete one of the options above their salsa dancing hobby skill level up percentage will increase (it increases for both sims), once they reach 100% they will level up, there are 6 levels. You need to reach level 6 to be able to unlock all of the salsa dancing collectibles, once unlocked you will be able to find them.

The table below shows the level up percentage for each option:

This may change in future updates

 LEVEL 1 hour 30 minutes 7 hours 30 minutes
1-2 48% 188%
2-3 36% 141%
3-4 24% 94%
4-5 12% 47%
5-6 9% 37%

NOTE: it says 188% but you will start from 0% at level 2

The next table shows you for each level what salsa dancing collectibles you unlock (so you can then find those ones too) and also the level up reward that a second and future sims will receive when they level up in this hobby:

LEVEL  TITLE 1st TIME LEVEL UP UNLOCKS 2nd+ TIMES LEVEL UP REWARD
1 Flailing Fiasco Step to Step and Killer Tap are unlocked in the hobby collection
2 Out of Step Side Rock Slider and Miami Ice are now unlocked in the hobby collection 250XP
3 Wily Dancer Hot Yogurt and Ultimate Dip are now unlocked in the hobby collection 500XP
4 Hot Stepper Espresso Empress and Around the World are now unlocked in the hobby collection S750
5 Dancing Dynamo Dashing Desperado is now unlocked in the hobby collection 10,000 Town Value
6 Sovereign of Salsa Three Way Stopper, Anaconda Animal and Eduardo King are now unlocked in the hobby collection.

You can now complete the collection!

1LP

NOTE: only the first sims completing this hobby needs to get to level 6 to unlock all the collectibles, future sims will be able to find any collectible even if they are only on level 1 in this hobby (and they can do the shortest option to try and find the collectibles quicker!)

You won’t find a new collectible each time, you will get repeats, if this happens just keep going, you will find them eventually! If it is still taking too long you can use the lucky spin on the row where you cannot find the item, this will cost LPs, when you click on the LP button it will clear the row and give you a random collectible on that row so you aren’t guaranteed a new item (you will get back any other collectibles you already had in that row) Need to earn some LPs to use the lucky spin?

The completed salsa dancing collection is shown below, once you complete the collection you need to click ‘start a new collection’ at the top of the hobby collection screen, this clears the board so you can complete the collection again to earn more rewards (you will only get the option to restart the hobby collection when you have completed the collection):

You will earn XPs when you complete a row in the hobby but to complete the collection you need to find all 12 of the collectibles

If you complete this hobby in the time limit you will unlock the Latin Villa, the first one is free after that on a standard it costs 125SP and on a premium it costs 175SP. More information on the villa can be found in my house guide part five

You also unlock:

The latin paving for patios, balconies and pools

Latin Mosaic, Latin Concrete and Latin Shapes flooring

Latin Exterior Stucco Tile (exterior walls)

Latin Red Stucco, Latin Blue Stucco and Latin Tile Mosaic walls

The rewards for completing this collection are the breakdancing hobby and 5 LP:

  • The first time you complete this collection you unlock the breakdancing hobby (even if you don’t manage to complete in the time limit) this is another time limited hobby, you need to buy the breakdancing boom box from promotions r us to begin the hobby:

  • From the second time onwards each time you complete the collection you will earn 5LP

  1. It seems to work better if you have other sims “cheer on” the dancers. Also, there seems to be a limit to how long the sim can cheer; mine lasted about 12 hours before refusing.

  2. Is there a difference between the Quick Salsa and Extended Mambo? Will you level up faster with Extended Mambo? I feel like my characters are stuck at Level 3.

  3. Well I can’t get 2 couples to dance at the same time. Careful where you place your jukebox, that must be why, my current dancing couple is completely in the way. Will have to experiment with that…

  4. Is there a benefit to choosing the extended mambo over the faster quick salsa? It seems they can be knocked out faster with the salsa… or am I missing something?

    • I used the longer option only when I wasn’t on the game for hours, so during the night.
I would only use the longer options to get to the next level if you need to, then the short options to find all the medals at that level.

  5. I have had four couples dancing all at the same time. However it seems totally random, mostly my sims won’t partner up. They prefer to stand waiting for partners, I can’t get the second option of dancing. Very frustrating to have two couples dancing and four individuals all waiting for partners!
Need to know what’s going on. How does it work??

  6. I’m not 100% sure yet but I think the people you select to WAIT do NOT get hobby credit for the dance. Only the people you select to do the dance (after someone is waiting) get the credit.

  7. Hey! awesome and really helpful blog !
I started the salsa dance hobby and chose the first option 1 hour or so, and when they got to 48% of flailing fiasco i used a social point and now it starts from the beginning- 0% all over again! I got a trophy anyway, what should i do? should i not use a social point to speed up the process?

    • This is a glitch but it doesn’t stop you from levelling up, the hobby bar % just goes back to 0 everytime you do the hobby but if you look when you finish the hobby it will show the correct % before you start it again

  8. Urgh, I hate timed hobbies, I failed with the magic one and in fact I am still doing it now weeks later – can’t get the last two items.

Did you get through the salsa easily in 7 days? Did you use two pairs of Sims instead of one? And how much is the Villa? Sorry for all the questions and thanks for your wonderful blog.

    • I used a lot of LPs to get it done in time and yes I used two pairs but as I kept getting the same trophies over and over it would have taken a lot longer without Lps.
The villa costs 125SPs on a standard plot
      You’re welcome!

    • This is a glitch but it doesn’t stop you from levelling up, the hobby bar % just goes back to 0 everytime you do the hobby but if you look when you finish the hobby it will show the correct % before you start it again

  9. I have two couples dancing and I can see their hobby level increasing, but when I start a new dance they go back to 0% of whatever level they are. For instance my sim that is Salsa Level 3 25% is dancing with a sim who is Salsa Level 2 50% but when I “wait for partner” and then “quick salsa” they’re both back to 0%. Do you have any idea why that is?

    • This is a glitch but it doesn’t stop you from levelling up, the hobby bar % just goes back to 0 everytime you do the hobby but if you look when you finish the hobby it will show the correct % before you start it again

  10. Hello I really like the information you provide since I’m pretty new to gaming. Thanks for all your help!
But I am having trouble with this hobby….just like many in the past.
I’ve been dancing constantly and my sims progress stays at zero. I have only got a few trophies.
In the past I didn’t receive the bridal package even though I completed it on time.
The long hair quest was the most disappointing. All the time I wasted for nothing in return.
I have tried contacting the game but no success there either.
I have never really played games until my son got me addicted to the Sims. So many times I have wanted to just stop playing out of frustration for all the time I give to receive the prize.
At one point my LPs were disappearing.
I will keep trying this hobby until the time runs out, but I will be so disappointed if I don’t complete it because of a glitch or something. 😦
Thanks so much, I love your site!

    • You’re welcome!
This is really strange, I don’t know what is going on with your game, sorry :/
The wedding outfits should be found in the outfit section of your wardrobe (previously they were only in the costume and swim store)
I don’t know why you aren’t levelling up in this hobby, luckily the prize for completing this hobby isn’t really worth the effort!

  11. When you’re doing quests or hobbies like this where you have to get certain prizes to fill the card, does it make a difference whether you do it more frequently, or longer at a time? (Absolutely love your blog!) P.s. Is there any way to know when/where you’ve answered a comment? 🙂

  12. With having two couple dance, is anyone else having problems with it canceling/not giving the “!” For the second couple if they finish at the same time (or you don’t get back to the game before they both finish)? The only time it hasn’t happened to me is when they’ve done the long Mombo–otherwise I have to get to the first couple before the second couple finishes, which isn’t always easy even with spacing them. Is this a glitch I need to bug EA about, or is it just a quirk I have to work with? Any suggestions?

  13. My sims have danced (quick salsa) over 5 or 6 times, and they get killer tap every single time. Is this a glitch?

  14. It stinks that even after you unlock the Villa you still have to pay out 175 SPs to build it! You don’t even get one free for doing all that work!

  15. Ditto on the crediting the one partner. Seems to be the one you select the time frame of dance you want to do. I have used the same Sim to “Wait for dance partner” each time I select it, and the same one Sim to select the Quick Salsa or Extended Mambo, and only the one who selected the type of dance gets the xp towards experience in the hobby. Sucks that you have two of them spend the same amount of time doing the same thing but only one gets credit.

  16. I have 2 couples dancing and doing the extended Mumbai, but when they are finished and I go to them only one couple has an exclamation point and the other has blue shoe print. They were able to dance and never got the shoe prints until the 7+hours was up. This happen twice. The first time I expanded the room and rearrange everything and made sure nothing was blocking them or the jukebox. Any ideas how to fix this so I can get the trophy from both couples and not just one?

  17. Wow! I’m actually quite annoyed with the price of the villa like I worked sooooo hard to get it unlocked and it costs 125 SP! And thats only on a standard res lot ! Is it just me or does that suck:(

  18. I agree with Allan and sometimes it gives the other just a little bit of leveling up in the hobby. also when you complete this is the villa free or do you still have to buy it?

  19. The second couple doesn’t get a reward..they are just dancing…am i doing something wrong??
Congrats on the blog! Great work!!

  20. Yeah, but do you know which one? I didn’t pay attention at the beginning and they both progressed some one more than the other…. I just want to make sure to level up at least one of then so which gets credit the first who is waiting for partner or the secon who joins in
    THX.

  21. Hi, first time writer here and daily reader since day one that I started playing Sims Freeplay.

I noticed that when I used only my male partner to start the “wait for partner for 5 hours” option only one earned skill points. To change that I now switch back and forth with the starting partners and each partner now gains skill level points.

I now chuckle each time the female dips the male in the end of the dance when it is her turn to lead. Leave it to Sims to level the dance playing floor genderwise.

I keep an eye on the both the dancers skill progress and have also noticed that they both have to dance to the next new skill levels of progress to get the next level of items to be won in the items charts.

I know that you do not recommend using LP’s for spins because the items can be obtained without using them.

I found while doing these quests that in the beginning of the quest when all of the items levels are open in the item chart (if I have extra LP’s only) I use the chart spinner to fill at least one of the blanks on each blank item row since. The computer has to fill in at least one of the 3 empty spaces with an item at random. I do this spin for each row at least once to speed up filling the chart items.

I don’t know if it really makes a difference in the long run since they often do come up later as you have said, but, in my humble opinion, I know, for myself, if I have extra LP’s to spare, I feel less stressed when they are pre-filled in as the quests sometimes come down to the wire to complete.

Early on in the game I did not earn enough LP’s to comfortably do this, but it does help me now when all of my Sims are now doing LP earning hobbies exclusively. I now have more LP’s to help complete more of the quests either early or at least on time. (I do not buy LP’s) If “Real Life” interrupts the game and I lose a quest, it is sad and painful but, “Real Life” must unfortunately come first.

I sure loved the Sims Freeplay 3rd Birthday Gift Idea… (I received the volleyball net) I would love it if they did that more often to give us a chance to re-earn a few of the quest items we missed with makeup quests of some sort… I missed the elevators and stairs pkg. by a hair due to “Real Life”… Also missed the wonderful new August hair pkg. quest when my old phone died… Hmmm then there are the quest prize items that came before had an iPhone at all that also look mighty interesting too… Sure would be nice to get a chance to earn a few of them as well… lol Hope someone from Sims EA reads your pages too…. HINT, Hint, hint to Sims Freeplay EA….lol

Can’t close without adding that I “LOVE” this site! It lives on my desktop at all times, with several of the pages I am working on open at once. I don’t know what I would do without your wonderful input on each of the stages of this wonderful and extremely addicting game.

Thank you most sincerely for all your hard work and dedication which daily gives us all so much pleasure and so much less confusion in our lives! All my best to you! Keep up the good work PLEASE!

    Thanks daily, LindaMstyrie

  22. Confirming what Alan said, it looks like only one sim gets the skill update. I’m trying to compensate by having two couples dance and then swapping them around to get different ones to update. It looks like if you have one at level 4 and the other at level 1 then you can only get a level 1 trophy. But if you combine two level 1 sims, one of them will get to level 2, so then you can get a level 2 trophy. Eventually all four sims level up slowly to get the higher level trophies. I know that doesn’t make much sense but I haven’t figured out the pattern yet to minimize wasted time. I think this is a bug. I took screen shots to verify the issue. But this is an event and there’s no time for them to fix it now. There’s only 5 days left to complete this event and I ‘m trying whatever patterns I can to have two couples dancing constantly, 24 hours per day. HTH

  23. Hi I’m obsessed with your blog helps me out every time. My question is do you really think this is achievable within the seven days as I keep getting the same medals.

    • I’m glad it helps!
Well I used a lot of LPs to get it done in time with two pairs but as I kept getting the same trophies over and over it would have taken a lot longer without Lps.

  24. a tip to people who aren’t that far in the game yet: don’t waste time and money thinking you need to get promotions r us during this task. I found that in the featured section of the home store it has the jukebox even if you don’t have promotions r us. I mean yea it’s just good to have and you need it for other queats but not this 🙂

  25. Every time i try to do the hobby the meter to reach the next level resets itself. I have tried three times all three times it goes back to level one at zero percent… ):

    • This is a glitch but it doesn’t stop you from levelling up, the hobby bar % just goes back to 0 everytime you do the hobby but if you look when you finish the hobby it will show the correct % before you start it again

  26. I’m having the same problem mentioned above, where it seems like both dancers aren’t getting the credit so I’m having trouble leveling up. Any idea if it’s the dancer who “waits for Partner” who gets the skill every time or is it just random? Thanks 🙂

  27. Salsa bug I’m not progressing and getting any medals because every time I start a new dance my sims experience level starts all over again and I keep getting the same medals I’m not going anywhere fast and I’m missing out on the quest s time limit, so I’m stuck at flailing fiasco 0 % once I restart every dance meanwhile prior to that I already advanced but by starting another dance it bumps me back to zero every time.

    • This is a glitch for every hobby but it doesn’t stop you from levelling up, the hobby bar % just goes back to 0 everytime you do the hobby but if you look when you finish the hobby it will show the correct % before you start it again

  28. I have finished the quest and can’t figure out how to get the villa. Tapping on an empty lo doesn’t work, it isn’t in the home store or in my inventory. Help!

  29. Hi, I really love your posts, they’ve helped me a lot. But I have two sims doing the salsa dancing hobby, one of them is on level three. But my other sim is still on level one. He went up to level two, but he keeps restarting it and I don’t know why. Do you know why, what should I do?

    • This is a glitch but it doesn’t stop you from levelling up, the hobby bar % just goes back to 0 everytime you do the hobby but if you look when you finish the hobby it will show the correct % before you start it again

  30. Hey 🙂 I have two couples dancing but every time i choose them to dance again the bar starts from 0% again, is it because i choose different partners each time ? pls help

    • Firstly don’t choose different partners each time because you will never reach level 6 that way but this is a glitch, the hobby bar % just goes back to 0 everytime you do the hobby but if you look when you finish the hobby it will show the correct % before you start it again, but it doesn’t stop you from levelling up.

    • Longer options don’t mean you will get better items.
I used the longer option to level up during times I wasn’t playing, so overnight
Otherwise I just used the short option to find the medals as quickly as possible.

  31. I am wondering if you are going to post a guide for the breakdancing hobbie, and if so, when do you think you will post it. Thanks!

  32. Are you more likely to get a higher ranked or rare mmedal by dancing longer, or shold I just have my couple dance the short dance repeatedly?

(And I agree, I’m not sure that the villa is worth 125 SPs!)

    • Longer options don’t mean you will get better items.
I used the longer option to level up during times I wasn’t playing, so overnight
Otherwise I just used the short option to find the medals as quickly as possible.

  33. How can I advance the hobby level for both of my sims? One of them is now in level 5, but the other one is only at level 3 and as much as I keep dancing just the one who is in the higher level keeps growing the level. (so, this way, I can’t have any level 4 or 5 medals, and I already have levels 1, 2 and 3 medals)

    • You can have level 5 medals as only one sim has to reach the level to unlock them
I would get that sim up to level 6 first then if you want the other to level up get the level 6 sim to wait for partner and the other to choose the dance.
