What is the maximum amount of sims you can have in one house?
4 is the maximum for living in a house at one time but you can invite other sims over and have 10 in a house or public place at once
How Many Sims Can I Have In My Town?
How do I get a sim to sleep through an alarm?
Click on bed, choose the option
How do I call a sim?

How do I invite a sim over?
Make sure they aren’t busy, go to the house you want them and click the whistle next to their picture
How do I use a computer?
Click on a computer in the game and choose the option you need.
I can’t add a new sim, why?
You may have reached the sim limit, you need to wait until you level up to unlock a new sim but you don’t always unlock a new sim each level.
Why can’t I add another baby?
A couple can only have 2 children as only 4 sims can live in a house at one time
A material just appeared above my sims head! What is this for?
These materials, for example granite as shown in the image below are used to upgrade the monuments on the island that you unlock during the Raiders of the Lost Artifacts Quest:
Why do blue footprints appear when I try to use an item?
Blue footprints appear when your sim cannot access an item you want them to use, you need to either rotate the item or move an item that has been placed in front of it so they can use it
Do I need a birthday cake to age a sim?
Yes you need a birthday cake to age your sim to each life stage until you complete the Life Dreams and Legacies quest where your sims age automatically
If I bake a cake early will it be there when I need it?
Yes, it will be stored until you are ready to age your sim
Can I change my sims name/ gender etc?
How do I get two sims married?
Can I make my sims friends after they become nemesis?
Yes, just be nice until they become friends again
How do I save my game?
If you log into Game Center or Facebook in the game you can save it to one or both of those to save your game to the cloud. The game will save automatically each time you collect your daily reward but you can save it manually from the settings

They need to clean the pool first and then they should do the action.

Help! I put my preteen bed in my inventory but cannot find it! Why?
If you haven’t completed the preparing for preteens quest yet you will not be able to see the preteen tab where the bed will be, once you complete the quest the bed should reappear

How much do houses, businesses or workplaces cost to build?
The price varies depending on how many other houses, business or workplaces you have already built, each time you build another one the price will increase but it will only increase for similar buildings, for example, if you build a house the price will only increase for the next house you build, it will not increase for businesses or workplaces too

How much do workplaces cost to build?
The price varies depending on how many other workplaces you have already built, each time you build another one the price will increase but it will only increase for similar buildings, for example, if you build a workplace the price will only increase for the next workplace you build, it will not increase for businesses or houses too
What is the difference between a career and a profession?
With professions you can go to work with your sims and help them out during their shift, with careers they will just go to work for a set amount of time and return when they have finished

They can’t see it because they aren’t seeing the most up to date version of your game, you need to connect to the cloud for them to see this version of your game
I can only visit Another Simtown, what items are available there?
If I skip a social task with LP will I still get the reward?
Yes you will
What items are needed to create a great social house?

Main Quests
I have missed a main quest! Why can’t I start it yet?
You cannot miss main quests they have to be completed in order. You need to complete all previous quests (the order can be found here)
Can I complete a main quest even though I am passed the level it unlocks at?
Yes, it will start automatically once previous quests have been completed
What happens if I don’t complete in the time limit, can I still finish a main quest?
Yes you have to finish it before you can move onto the next quest
I didn’t complete in the time limit, can I restart the quest?
No, you cannot redo quests
Can I still get the prize if I don’t complete in the time limit?
No, the only way to get the limited time prizes is by completing the quest in the time limit
I don’t like a quest I am on! Can I just skip it?
No, you have to complete the quest before you can move onto the next one
Why are there two versions of some quests?
Some quests have two versions, as when the makers have updated the times for quests they haven’t updated them on all devices so some players still get the old times
What do you mean when you say a goal can be started early?
Any goal that you can normally do can be started early because you will have access to it and any goal that you can’t normally do you will have to wait until you get the goal to be able to complete it
The tip with this method is to put the sim doing that action early in a different house that you cannot go to until you get that goal or it will not work
Some times are slightly different on my game, why is this?
Times may vary depending on the star rating of the item you are using, as the higher star rating an item has the quicker you will complete a goal
Some times are really off/ different goals show for me, why is this?
This will be because the quest has been updated recently, I try my best to keep these posts up to date but it is difficult as I cannot redo every quest each time the game is updated. If you notice any changes please let me know so I can update the post

I don’t get the option to watch SimChef on TV, why?
You will not get the option until you get the goal when the quest starts
Why can’t I buy a toaster?
You need to place a toaster on a counter or table, it won’t let you buy it if you try to put it on the floor
I can’t make cheese on toast, why?
You need to have a stove and a toaster in your house to be able to make cheese on toast
How do I invite a sim over?
Click on the whistle next to a sim who isn’t busy on the simtracker, this post explains more about the simtracker
I can’t cook burgers why?
You need one sim to cook until they reach level 2 in cooking to unlock the burgers, if you use the same sim to cook for each cooking goal in this quest they will reach level 2 by the time you need to cook the burgers
Where can I find the chopping boards?
You need to complete the cooking hobby for the first time to unlock the chopping boards, they can then be found in the kitchen section of buy mode
Love is in the Air Quest
How do I get two sims in a house?
Click on the whistle next to a sim who isn’t busy on the simtracker
Why can’t my sim kiss another sim on the cheek?
You have probably been romantic too many times, you need to be dating to get this interaction, if they are already partners you won’t be able to do this task. To get around this you need a sim to be romantic to a different sim until they are dating so you can complete this goal
How do I send a sim home?
Click on the house with the arrow in it button next to a sim who isn’t busy on the simtracker
I can’t be romantic, why?
You cannot be romantic until you get the goal in this quest to be romantic
Two and a Half Sims Quest
I can’t place the magazines in my house, why?
You need to put them on a table or counter, you cannot place them on the floor
My sims won’t read the magazine, help!

Raiders of the Lost Artifacts Quest
How do I visit the island?
Click on the mysterious island bridge, this will take you to the island
I cannot find the third artifact, where do you find them?
You get them by random, by baking, gardening and using objects, I cannot tell you where to find them as any action can give you one. Try planting peppers or any other action that takes seconds to try and get it quickly
How long does it take to upgrade the riches of terra?
Go to the island and click on it and select upgrade and it will complete straightaway
Why haven’t you posted about monuments yet?

You can find it in your inventory under career and hobby items
I can’t afford the stables, how can I earn more simoleons?

No exclamation marks appear above items to clean up, what should I do?
Just click on items when a sim is there and it will come up with options on the things that need clearing
Can I have more than 4 sims cleaning the mess up at the stables?
Yes, you can have up to 10 sims at a place so 8 sims can clear the 8 items at the same time
How do I practice brushing another sim?
Select the interaction between two sims
My game says there is something under construction when I try to repair a stable, what do I do?
Firstly you need to read the pop up as it tells you exactly what is under construction, once you have go there and click on it to finish building, then you will be able to repair the stable (it will be something you have built previously but probably just haven’t clicked to finish building yet!)

Yes you can, build the costume and swim store then you will find them in your wardrobe
Hidden Unicorn Quest
Which is the unicorn jumping gate?
This is the arena at the stables that is not next to the other two gates
How do I bake rocky road?
Click on a stove and select baking and find rocky road
Does it matter if the rocky road burns?
No it will still complete the goal
My game says there is something under construction when I try to repair the gate, what do I do?

What is the magic castle?
The playhouse that is to the left at the swim center
How do I feed my toddler a snack?
You need an adult sim to select the interaction on a toddler
Does the cat stay at the swim center once the quest is complete?
No, it will disappear
Where are the dancing trees?
At the swim center
Does the adult need to clean up all the pee puddles?

Preparing for Preteens Quest
I can’t afford simtown elementary, how can I earn more simoleons?

I can’t afford the restaurant, how can I earn more simoleons?

How do I serve the food?
Click on the plates and select the option
I cannot find Wumples/Santa/Grouch! What should I do?
Firstly restart your device then try looking around all your houses in simtown for them, they have got to be somewhere!
Pizza is locked, how do I cook it?
Your sim needs to be level 2 at cooking and have a microwave at that house
I cannot make the quiche, it is greyed out, why?
Your sim needs to be level 4 at cooking and have a 2 star fridge and stove
How do I give the mud pie to the Grouch? It disappeared!
You don’t see the mud pie, just click on the Grouch and select the option to give mudpie
My game says there is something under construction when I try to open the front door, what do I do?
Firstly you need to read the pop up as it tells you exactly what is under construction, once you have go there and click on it to finish building, then you will be able to open the front door to the restaurant (it will be something you have built previously but probably just haven’t clicked to finish building yet!)
An Alien Concept: Weather Machines Quest
How do I send my sim to the park?
Go to the park and click on the whistle next to a sim who isn’t busy on the simtracker
How do I become friends with the alien?
Be nice to Osiris until your sim becomes friends with him, do this again to become best friends when you get that goal
I have spent S16,000 on items but the goal will not complete, why?
Make sure you are just buying items from the electronics section of buy mode
How do I negotiate with a sim eating plant?
You need to grow lettuce until it turns into a sim eating plant then when it has you will be able to negotiate with it
How do I get my sims to woohoo?
You need two sims who are partners to be able to get this interaction
I already have a world globe, do I have to buy another one?
Yes you do or you cannot complete this quest
I don’t have a stereo, where can I find one?
You can buy one from the electronics section
Multi Story Renovations Quest
I can’t afford the community center, how can I earn more simoleons?

No, you cannot build the community center until you get the goal in this quest
The game says I have to complete the multi story renovations quest to be able to build the community center, what is the problem?
There is no problem, you have to start the multi story quest and the first goal is to build the community center so you cannot build it until you get that first goal in the quest
How do I send my sim to the community center?
Go to the community center and click on the whistle next to a sim who isn’t busy on the simtracker
I don’t understand what you mean when you say you can do both call the home store/ hotline goals at once to save time?
This goal appears twice so it is like being able to start a goal early that you have access to (read the question below if you don’t understand this) to do this you need two sims and two different houses:
1- When you get the goal to call home store you can set sim 1 to do the task
2- In a different house which you need to stay away from until you get the second goal you can have sim 2 also do the task
3- When sim 1 is done you complete the goal the first time
4- Wait until you get the goal again to call home store and you can go to sim 2 to complete it straight away!
Does it matter if the banana bread burns? Will the goal still complete?
The goal will still complete even if it causes a fire
I crafted the 1st set of woodworking items before I got the task to, my game now won’t complete the goal, what should I do?
You will need to find the next 3 items in the second row to complete this goal
I completed the quest but I cannot place stairs, why?
Firstly make sure you have rooms upstairs and also give this post a read, it explains how to add stairs to a house

You need to use the blackboard at the community center

Help, all items are greyed out apart from the magazines! What should I do?
Buy the magazines again, this should allow you to access the rest of buy mode
Do I need a teen for this quest?
Yes, in this quest you complete the teen idol hobby for the first time so a teen is required to complete all the goals
Can I have more than one teen doing this at once?
No, only one teen can be the teen idol and complete this hobby at one time
I have done the task write 3 pieces of music but it will not complete, why?
You need to write 3 different pieces, you cannot just do the task 3 times
Why can’t I buy the microphone yet?
You need to find all 3 pieces of music on the keyboard, then all 3 on the bass guitar, then all 3 on the drum kit, then all 3 on the guitar and then you will be able to buy the microphone
I cannot find one of the pieces, what should I do?
Some take longer to get than others to find so just keep going, you will find them eventually!
Adulthood Quest
How do I send my sim to the park?
Go to the park and click on the whistle next to a sim who isn’t busy on the simtracker
Do I need to use a teen for these tasks?
No, all can be done with an adult
How do I call a sim to the swim center?

Do I need the snow park to complete this quest?
Yes you do, you cannot complete the goal to visit the snow park without it
You cannot do this at a neighbours town, quest goals can only be completed in your town
How do I send my sim to the swim center?

I don’t have the option to feed or investigate the pigeons, why?
Make sure you using an adult sim
How do I search garbage for a cupcake?
Kick over the trash can first then you will get the option

What are discovery quests?

Why can’t I do a discovery quest yet?
You cannot do more than one discovery quest at the same time, if you are currently on another discovery quest you will not be able to do another one until that is completed
Can I do discovery quests at the same time as a main quest?
Yes you can
Do I have to do a discovery quest?
If you don’t start the quest you don’t have to do it at all but if you have already started it you need to complete it before you can move on to the next quest
I haven’t started a discovery quest yet, will it still be available when I want to do it?
Yes it will be, you can choose to start it whenever you like
What happens if I don’t complete in the time limit, can I still finish a quest?
Yes you have to finish it before you can move onto the next discovery quest

How do I start this discovery quest?
Build the sorcerous supplies store to start this quest
Does the time limit start when I click to build or once the building has complete?
Once it has finished building the quest and time limit will begin
Why can’t I do this discovery quest yet?
You cannot do more than one discovery quest at the same time, if you are currently on another one you will not be able to do this one until that one is completed
Is it possible to complete this quest in the time limit?
Yes it is
How do I unlock the door to the wand room?
Select randomly rearrange
How do I place the magic wand podium, I can’t find it!
It will be in the hobby and career items section of your inventory
Everytime my sim gazes into the crystal ball it says ‘this place is too crowded’ why?
If you already have a sim at the wizards cottage you will get this message, use the simtracker to go to the sim who is already there instead of using the crystal ball
Can I do all the distract a mummy tasks at the same time?
No you can’t, you can only do them one at a time
How do I pack up the magic wand podium?
Click on it to pack up
The magic wand podium has disappeared once I’ve picked it up! How do I complete the hobby?

My Sims game has stopped working. It suddenly decided to not load in every time I tried it. I uninstalled it and re-installed it, then I downloaded my data from the cloud (luckily it updates most days) so didn’t lose any information, but I tried to get into the Shopping Mall and it kicked me out of the game again and now won’t load at all again. A few people have been telling me their game has been crashing a lot recently, now this may be a problem in the latest update or it may be that your device cannot cope with the amount of memory the game is trying to use. Have you tried restarting your device then going back to the mall? This can help sometimes for a while as it refreshes the memory issue but it doesn’t always. You may want to contact EA if this keeps happening and find out if it is the game or the device that is causing the problem.

I started the quest pretty little planters and the first thing it asks you to do is visit the top floor of the mall. But I haven’t built the mall yet. When I click on the mall and try to build it it says Finnish the pretty little planter quest before building the mall but I can’t complete the quest until I build the mall. What do I do? I noticed after the latest update, that when I go into buy furniture mode that almost all the dressers & wardrobes that I used to have can no longer be purchased.
The only ones that are still there are: Chocolate Chest, Vampire Chest & Pink Wardrobe.
Are you sure you are looking in the home store not your inventory as I still have all of the wardrobes and chest of drawers.

I agree with you! I don’t like professions as I have to spend all day playing the game but if you use sims who aren’t specialised you will only get the first 3 options appear so you can complete it fairly quickly to get resources- no use if you want to complete badges to level up your specialised sims though unfortunately!

As apple have just had an update it has now scrapped the Game Centre App. Myself and my daughter aren’t on facebook so this poses a problem with adding a neighbour. Game Center is still available but you now have to add players via iMessage- how you do this I honestly don’t know and I can’t seem to find anything online to explain how it works, sorry!

For this one you need an adult sim and you can’t use the teen idol guitars, you will need to find a neighbour with the free toyota guitar or the acoustic looking guitar so hopefully you will find a neighbour who has one of those 🙂

I built the 1st basement for the basement of kings quest but forgot to add stairs. Now I cant access the basement to add furniture to xomplete the quest. I cant build a basement on another house until the quest is complete. Is there anything I can do now to access the basement somehow?
You don’t have to add furniture to the basement in the quest, you just have to add the furniture to any house.

I have one question about jobs.. does the duration of job decreases if we use career items? My real estate sim started working at 8 hours a day at level 1. Now she is level 5 and works 5 hours. I used auction podium for leveling up faster. Do career items really help or they are just there as decoration?

Career items allow a sim to level up in the career quicker than just sending them to work but using it won’t decrease the time anymore than if you just sent them to work but they will level up quicker

In my Sims freeplay game, I started a teen on Teen Idol, then after that I had an adult sim doing figure skating. They were at level six in the hobby. After that teen started Teen Idol that sim went back to level ONE on the hobby they’ve been doing for TWO WEEKS!! Can you please help me?? 😤

I always use your site when I have quests and it’s been very helpful so thank you! This is my issue lately, I will get a bunch of my sims to plant something (like watermelon) and they will all start and the money is deducted but sometimes when I go back to a house they are planting at, one of the sims didn’t plant. They are all lined up at the garden and everyone has the floating watermelon above their heads so I can collect money except for one and on sim even though the money was taken out when they started to plant. Even if I check on them before the planting is complete they are all still planting. It doesn’t happen everytime and it’s not a specific sim or plant. It’s random and just frustrating that I lost money because of it. Not a big deal, just annoying. Is this just a bug?

Hi there, I was wondering if you new anything about how to add neighbours now the game centre app on iPhones has gone? I don’t have Facebook and when my daughter tries to add me on her iPad through her game centre it doesn’t work. Thank you for providing such vital knowledge for this game x
Unfortunately you have to iMessage the person you want to add, not exactly sure how this works as I haven’t updated so I can still access game center. Someone kindly told me you can also allow nearby people to add you from Settings > Game Center > Allow nearby people to add you through WiFi or Bluetooth so that might be a way you can add your daughter!

In the seniors quest I tried doing the fishathon early but it wasn’t complete. Why is it?
If you went there too early you will have to start it again, you cannot go to the place where they are completing that until you get the goal otherwise you have to start all over again.

Well it depends what aged sim you want, if you aren’t bothered I would just add 4 adult sims to each of your houses (have one empty house which you can use to add the sims to the town and then you can get them moved in with sims living in the other houses.
Babies will cost 3LPs before you complete the life dreams quest, then they will cost simoleons which varies depending on how many sims you have in your town.
Sorry for the double post, but if I move in two married sims in a house, and I get them divorced, they’ll still be living together right? If I remarry the owner of the house to someone else,can I get them to move in too, resulting in 3 adult sims living in one house?
Yes you can do that, you can also get the other sim to move out of the house by having them be nice to a sim until you get the option to ask to move in.
Sorry about double posing myself. Question about being nice and moving in. If I have a sim move in (not married), does it change the last name of the sim who moved in? They are not family but does the game recognize that?
Even if they move in as good friends they will both end up with the same last name of the sim who was already living in that house.
It it possible to have two Sims Freeplay games on two separate devices both saving to the cloud? one being on Facebook, the other Google Play?
Yes, just do not save to the same account otherwise you will be overwriting one of your games each time

Google Play log in isn’t working for me. I log into Google Play using the game on my second device, I fall into an endless loop of “There was a problem logging in” both from the cloud button and the keyhole button. Any ideas?
This has been a common issue with no fix as of yet unfortunately so I haven’t heard any solutions to this issue, if it does keep happening I would recommend you contact EA to see if there is anything they can do to help.
I am currently level 19 and I havent done much, but the swimming center costs me 150,000 simoleons!!! But in your post it only costs 20000. Also other buidings cost a way more than it originally should be How come and what should I do?? Thanks in advance;)

My main account on my phone and my alternate account on a tablet both have different menu layouts. For instance, my phone has the sim tracker. job tracker, hobbies, life dreams, age controller, and relationships in a folder on the left side of the screen. and the home store, town map link, and store on the lower right. My tablet has the sim tracker in a pull up menu on the bottom left side of the screen, and the job tracker, hobbies, life dreams, age controller, and relationships in a pull up menu on the bottom right side. The home store, town map link, and store is on the bottom center. I thought it was because the tablet was older, but I got a brand new tablet for Christmas nicer than my phone and it is 15 inches while my older tablet was 7 inches, so I moved my main account to the brand new tablet through cloud save and the layout is just like the older tablet when it wasn’t when that account was on my phone.
Why am I getting different layouts on different devices? It it just tablets and phones that are different from each other? Thanks.
The layout is different on different devices, it depends on what size your device is as smaller devices have a different layout to larger devices otherwise it wouldn’t all fit on the screen. It doesn’t change how the game runs.
I have a red ring around my sims in the box where I select the sim I want, it’s usually green. Do you know what this could Be?

I’m guessing the best thing to spend LPs on is to speed up actions, what do you think? What’s the best thing to spend social points on because nothing stands out so far. And instead of buying a mansion or another expensive house, would it be cheaper to buy an empty lot, create the room and buy the two or three star utility items?
Yes I would agree with that! Social points can be used to buy houseboats, houses, some items in the store and they can be used on community events to speed things up. I mainly use mine for houseboats and community events.
Its hard to say if that would be cheaper though because I don’t know how much an empty lot would cost for you or what exactly you are planning on building! It could end up being more expensive.
For sale items that will no longer be available in the home store after x amount of time, can I buy a limited time availability item, then send it to my inventory, then buy another, then send to inventory, and repeat as many times as I wish before they will no longer be available in the home store? Like the Christmas items sale, that I am sure after a while you won’t be able to buy Christmas items anymore. The Luxury Crib may also disappear too. I already missed the boat on the Latin furniture that was there for awhile because I thought I’d still have access to it, just not as a sale.
Can I buy a whole bunch of ‘for a limited time only’ home store items and put them in the inventory and still have access to those items later on down the road when they are not in the home store?

Yes, once you buy an item it will be stored in your inventory until you place it in your house.
What happens after I’ve reached the max level (55)? I am still collecting level up points, are they stored, will they be useful at some point?
The highest level is 55 so those points probably won’t be stored as it isn’t likely that the highest level will be increased any time soon.

Firemonkeys completely changed their website. Now I cannot find a way to contact them for support for any of their games. There isn’t a ‘submit a request’ anymore. All there is on the website is a “Help Center” with a bunch of FAQs for their various games, none of which address my problem. I followed the link on this page but the website is completely redone and now it seems impossible to contact them when it used to be so easy. Do you know how to contact them on their new updated website?
The link on this page still goes to their submit a request page, select sims freeplay and fill in all the details like before.

I have played the sims freeplay before but now i Re-play this game and it have too much new quest like ice sculpture because i have to handle other quest like baby quest and it have time limited.after i have some money i bought a few ice pedestal and start questing but and i dont have enough time to done the quest….so can you tell me what quest i can acept and which i should forfeit as a beginer quest guide

When you go to certain places in sim town you will either get a pop up asking if you want to do a discovery quest or you will see sims with a bubble above their head and when you click on it you can begin a discovery quest, I would recommend completing most of the main quests first before you start these otherwise you may feel overwhelmed! These can be found in this post: https://thegirlwhogames.blog/2015/11/15/the-sims-freeplay-discovery-quests/ (building some places also starts a discovery quest so give that a read to check which buildings they are)
You will also get time limited hobby events (you have to complete a hobby in a time limit) these events reappear a lot so don’t worry if you don’t manage to complete them in the time limit (it is a good idea to get a sim to complete each hobby as you unlock it though so you are ready for these events in future)
Other events include seasonal quests/events which don’t come back again but they have added some of the prizes back to the game, for example, 11 of the 12 ice sculpture event prizes could be unlocked in the Christmas 2015 quest so again just because you miss an events/quest doesn’t mean you won’t ever be able to do it!
Last ones are community events, these are events- again with a time limit that we all work together to unlock the prizes for and so far they have brought back one of the three of these they have done! Why can’t my teens have a romantic relationship? I can fill the blue serious date bar by taunting, but I can’t find a way of achieving a pink romantic relationship bar. I don’t want to age them, or they will become too like their parents who are far too young to become seniors!
Serious date is as far as it goes unfortunately!
If you are in contact with the developers, please petition them to add middle age.
It is absurd to have four generations from birth to 15 years(baby/toddler/preteen/teen) and only one generation (adult) from then until retirement (seniors).
What about all the grandparents in their forties and fifties.
There are many more important things that could be added to this game than all the fanciful events and quests.
I am sure I am not the only person who wants a simulation of life to be just that – realistic, not just aliens, witchcraft, etc..

Here is my problem, I tried starting the DIY Basement quest almost two weeks ago. Bree is nowhere to be found in my park. Any ideas on how to fix this issue? I want to complete the quest and move on. I have even tried having one of my sims call a cab to the DIY home, and it doesn’t show up as an option.

I just built a second floor and wanted to leave an opening in the middle. I don’t think I can do that now as I’ve already built the second floor. How do I build only areas of rooms and leave an opening to see to bottom floor?
You can leave a space but you will see the black area of the room below, you wouldn’t be able to see through to the ground floor.

Hi, how do you add neighbours on iOS 10? I believe the Game Center app has been removed (bad move) and unfortunately Facebook is not an option for me. Will Sims FreePlay be adding an Invite button or how do I add neighbours? Any idea? Xx
Unfortunately you have to iMessage the person you want to add, not exactly sure how this works as I haven’t updated so I can still access game center. Someone kindly told me you can also allow nearby people to add you from Settings > Game Center > Allow nearby people to add you through WiFi or Bluetooth.
I am hoping the developers will make it easier to add neighbours in future!
